Just changed from Chupucabras to dhf and a dirt wizard on the back and it’s transformed the bike. Well worth the huge cost and as others have said oddly the drag just doesn’t seem to be an issue I’ve only noticed it on road sections and it’s not bad . Mud once again is fun

Got any room in your pedals? Some pretty thin ones these days like the boomslangs which could help too

Oh and it’s very very easy to get the front wheel up so lots of hoiking up over things or having fun.

I should add that it wouldn’t be much fun on the 15% of our trails which are definitely full suss only, but it feels nice not to have to go seeking out crazy mental sections with big penalties just to get the kicks.

Yes!! I love it!! Other bikes are nomad and spicy and they don’t really get a look in any more… discovered I can do the vast majority of the usual trails still due to the massive wheels but weirdly it’s more consistently fun! You get the fab direct hard tail ride and get to ride stuff that seems quite unlikely at the same time. Sensation of speed is better than on a full suss (or maybe you don’t need to be going so fast for thrills). The fork is pretty great really But I wish I’d got last years five with a rigid carbon fork if I’m honest. I’ve fitted a dropper and swapped the bars for some carbons and gone tubeless which was pretty quick and easy. Tyres really suit plasticene to dry conditions but still work in mud unless really deep. the matt green paint is a bit of a dirt magnet which is a shame. I wouldn’t change much on it to be honest it’s a complete blast to ride fast and slow smooth or rough ,steep up or down and lastly sounds like an old land rover on road sections . Buy!!!

Hmm sorry Joe that sounds more faff than easy swap doesn’t it, I did have to file the barrel on my original lever as it was malformed in production and more of a banana than barrel so it is of course possible. It sounded like a drop in (fnar) swap 🙂

Yes I’m getting some play now like poopscoop, which I’m pretty sure wasn’t there at new but for this money I’m happy.

Flimsy but feels good in use. I’m waiting in disbelief for the failure of the grub screw before I update it.

Joe the brand x post uses a teeny weeny grub screw in a separate cable barrel inside the end of the post. It’s the same shape and size as a standard cable end so the idea I think is that the bontrager ‘hack’ simply has you using the proper barrel in the post and the new lever grub screw is holding the cable directly in the lever probably with a decent sized screw.

Mine has been great for about 5 months with a mudguard , I agree the ferule is an obvious but hidden point of failure though!

Idiotdogbrain that bontrager lever sounds a good idea I will look into it ta

Weirdly even at about 13psi the tyres don’t deform that much I don’t sense much Cush it’s mainly it’s the roll over and the traction and the insane roller coaster sensation 🙂

Ps Cookeaa don’t underestimate the cost of 29plus tyres!! A winter set will hurt a lot

Cookeaa I watched a buddy ride a fully rigid Stache all year and finally caved in and bought my own. 29+ Wheel size just irons stuff out but drops are best taken carefully and the fork will never save you like a decent sus of course! I wanted the rigid one but left it too late and have a sus fork on mine and it’s still ace but obviously heavier. Still lofts and pops ridiculously easily. Munrobiker I would have your hand off for it but the front wheel is boosted and I think that fork is standard?

Got my wheel back from i-bike, £39 including courier. good to be up and rolling again and i-bike did a great job. Did make me kind of appreciate my perhaps slightly less sexy Hope hubbed home made wheels a bit more though

Just in case anybody needs it, I got in touch with ibike who are the fulcrum service centre and it’s about £33 plus postage to get the broken part out of the rim and install a new spoke. Pretty pleased with this , normally I fix my own wheels but this set has been great and worth keeping running 🙂

How did he get on Jonke? just bust one on my rear wheel tonight and it felt like the wheel was suddenly twisting and squishing on any decent impact or side load, needless to say the nipple and an inch of spoke disappeared inside the chamber… not sure how I’m going to get them out in order to fix it///

Hi I have my sub working in the ipad app thanks, can I get it in the iphone too? It asks me to log in but afaik I haven’t registered with pocket mags? Something happened when I opted in but if that created an account how do I use it in the iphone app? Cheers!

nah tried that, just checked CRC and they reserve the right to not publish reviews based on certain criteria, but not just on those criteria… ah well

patriotpro, i get the feeling those types of reviews are fading more and more, some items have very few reviews these days

sssimon – would it have been better if i had prefixed it with some hilarious “1st world problem” tagline? I shall be sure to check your posts to see if i can help you back in such a constructive manner.

I agree Bratty, and im saddened to see that this is already considered normal practice by some people. Amazon seem to manage to publish negative reviews, that CRC don’t seem to publish a constructive review which doesn’t happen to be 5 stars is a bit surprising to me.

ive got high hopes for this sort of thing:

    e-watch[/url]

but the design itself doesn’t do it for me, still, seeing SMS on your watch as you ride instead of stopping to get the phone out and find its just the missus asking you to get milk, would be cool

coolhandluke, thats my next watch i think been eyeing one for a while. Lots of great 5s dont seem to be around in the UK which is a shame as some are amazing. And yes, whats the strap?

cheers guys, Stoner – the on-one site implies its good for 29wheel and 29 frame, and 26 wheel with 26 frame, i assumed a mix would kind of work ok, how does she find it?

will check em all out thanks

Love my Diablo, pricy but such a nice beam spread, not a Batman summoning super spot, but a really nice on the eye spot. packaging is a little OTT and must contribute to the cost rather a bit. High beam i think is an hour but its so easy to switch i get much longer.

got to say, i wouldn’t want to be Lumi / exposure etc at the moment with the new cheaper alternatives coming in strong, wonder if thats why Hope pulled the R8?

weird my M&S renewal went up a bit, i rang them about 2 weeks ago, and as long as a single item (including bikes) is no more than 4 grand its covered. no matter how many you have. thats what they said anyway.
