I cant help thinking all biking is good biking
I rode Mabie last night it was just straight good fun far from sterile
, the last 5 rides out we have ridden natural trails on 3 of these we have used some of Kirr and dalbeattie as access .
Are far I as can recall all of us riding got into regular mountain biking because of the 7 stanes .Now we are looking further afield to find natural stuff ,so the net result of the stanes in Galloway is that there are more trails being found and ridden

I am biased ,Stay in Castle Douglas; 38 mins Kirroughtree ;15 mins Dalbeattie ;35 mins Mabie and you could easily do two in one day

I like the mad wild camp site at Torrlundy ,midges ,fires, beer, silent disco .Although last year some pissed di-k drove his mates car around the site and over a tent I think ,no one was hurt but there was a stramash. in second thoughts might not be the best place

I took up trail running 3 years ago it is addictive be warned .

I get sore if I run on hard surfaces so I stick to trails and aim for the soft muddy parts , so for me trail shoes are the best option, mizuno wave harriers for me have been the best

I do not know about the rest of Scotland but Galloway has been very midge free because the frost is keeping them down ,so keep your fingers crossed for more freezing nights and windy days

If you are heading on the B796 you can do a wee detour, take the Lausiston road out of Gatehouse then 1st left once past the golf course it takes you on very scenic wee road passed woods then crosses the Fleet and joins the B796 .

“The Scottish Borders aren’t too bad. I’ve only ever had a few bites while riding in the Seven Stanes even without repellent”

However Dalbeattie ,Kirroughtree ,Mabie, Ae and Glentrool are not in the Scottish borders and if you visit Glentrool without repellent you will die
