Oh lots of posts to catch up on!

Edit: prob worth me adding more info re logistics. I need to be smartly dressed, I won’t have an office and not even sure about a locker yet. There are bike lockers and showers but I’m trying to confirm my access to them. I’m/I wil be a junior dr so shift patterns and long weeks which is partly why I have a thread about scooters for commuting-even this morning I looked at the weather*and was very glad I didn’t have to muster the energy to ride

    *I am in glasgow though

I probably need to work out before I move whether a scooter is viable. If cycling and train I’ll live about 12 miles from work but if scooter or motorbike then I’d live about twenty miles away

Cheers lots to think about and scooter might be worth a proper look. I’ll see about taster session locally and see how I get on. Regarding the weather then it’ll be better than on a push bike surely?

Grimy, I think that’s a good point. I’m not sure how you just get on bike and ride kev but chapeau

ap, I’ll drop you an email anyway if that’s ok

I might look into a scooter then could always change to motorbike once can afford training and bike

    Yeah but they’re rubbish

And go wrong way for me. Commuting in traffic much quicker by bike than car?

    fontmoss

It would be twenty miles each way and decent traffic

Do it, you can eat what you want, get fit and if clears your head. If you’ve had a bad day take it out on the road, put a few lung busting sprints in and by the time you’re home, you’ll have forgotten what the problem was.

    This is all very appealing!

Not sure about the last bit-to live where we want I’d need ti commute by motorbike really (about twenty miles each way)

Hmmm I thought I’d least have a flaming by now…

Cheers guys. Ok prob not going to change where we’re looking at to live but good to know I can aim to ride in a few days a week then catch train on other days. Just need to decide on sscx or geared (posher) road bike to take to london.Feel bit happier about things, thanks all

Ned, you have no idea how much that has cheered me up 😀 ta!

It’s looking like twickenham or surbiton at the moment and heading out of town towards Chertsey, so not into proper London. So about 12 miles one way….

Chertsey isn’t London, it’s barely inside the M25!

    Alright don’t rub it in!

Second year in Epsom/St Helier so perhaps Twickenham or Surbiton for a year then onto Tooting for the next year.

Thanks all, bike or train looks like the way forward. I’ll need to find out if secure bike place and showers

Aside from last post then seems clear the car should be avoided

Huws, found quite a lot for under 1200? Perhaps we have dif standards 😉

I’ll have a look at mortlake and sheen. Not desperate to be in clapham set etc just after somewhere nice and also lively that can get ti work in minimal time

St helier hospital, not sure if that’s carshalton or not

Somewhere within walking distance of Clapham Junction would mean a reasonable commute for both years…

I was thinking of moving after a year intitally

Also I’m in Epsom or St Helier in a years time, so if could find somewhere with good transport links for both years that would be a winner 😉

Yeah, you deffo want to be on the trainline through Ashford, St Margrets, Twickenham, Richmond all ace – but you’ll pay

Yeah I know, we’ve budgeted a grand a month for 1 bedroom place and tbh it’ll be the first time we’ve had 2 incomes so and only in London for couple years.

Lived in Barnes for many years, great place.

    Not to keen on Wimbledon.

Mortlake, Sheen, Richmond, Putney are all good.

    Cheers

I’ll have a look at Walden. Richmond station to Ashford looks quick. Ashford Hospital Postcode TW15 3AA

EDIT: Walden? My brain has died I’m afraid

Anyone been at tress this week? Thinking of night ride tomorrow, I know inners access was flooded earlier this week.

Cheers I might give inners a bash, envision a lot of walking near the top though tress was snowy climbing to spooky woods!

Yeah I know about the preload, it was a joke 😉

Shimano external BB’s last me over a year of riding Scottish mud and gloop at least once a week

Yeah mine used to which is why I think it’s prob something I’m doing, just not sure what

Yeah I’m going to buy a king when money allows, seems like they’re just much easier to service. I genuinley don’t think I’m overtightening, I’m not strong enough 🙁

I tend to kill one after a few wet rides. Problems of an external bearing.

My bikes get hosed down occasionally, then left to drip-dry in the garage. I have perfectly functioning Shimano BBs (including a Deore one that must be 4 years old).

These both confirm what I’ve been thinking/experiencing. My cx bike’s bb shell prob does need faced but it goes through a few bbs in a season. That said my deore bbs seemed to last a hell of a lot longer in the past than they do now but I wondered if that was my rose tinted glasses. I shall tighten and lovingly attend the incoming bb and see what happens. Replaced with a king would be my suspicion.

Frame carbon so no facing, worked in an lbs so fairly confident I’m fitting it correctly. Just trying to find out if there’s something I’ve overlooked

No water that I remember, don’t think I’m overtightening but ordered a new one and will check for water.

It’s for crappy, dull days in the woods when transitions are a bit dark-just a case of whether persimmon is still bit dark and yellow a better shout

Yeah it’s a non tapered fork I’m using. From that link I’d guess new style headset race?… Might order one and have a look, can send it back if not right
