    Cook, get a grip

As for the language I’m scottish and a literature grad, grammar and syntax are over rated…

I’ve had the ball bearings in the stem etc, used to work in a bike shop. Sadly it’s several hundred miles away

Cheers Dave I like it despite the comments! I had a lemond in that colour scheme before and loved it, sold it ages ago and was looking for another when found this frame and forks.

Regarding the king colour I think black or silver would be pretty dull on a black and silver bike. The cables were on offer when building it up but will be black when replaced and the cages will make way for steel king cages when money allows. So the mango will be the only hint of colour at that point.

I guess the moral of the story is if it matters to me then it matters. I shall give them a call tomorrow and ask very nicely if they;d mind changing it. If they do then I’ll wait until back in Scotland to get it sorted but I’ve convinced myself I *need* to change. God knows what that says about me.

New pics to be posted once it’s had a new lease of life, ta for all the comments certainly brightened up a dark November night.

Maybe I’m missing something, but by ‘not aligned’ do you mean the writing is not lined up correctly between top and bottom cup? Is it meant to be!? I wouldn’t have even noticed.

Yeah fitted properly just attention to detail imho

plus if you really want to annoy a customer you just fit them upside down 😉

I’ve struggled to get a definitive answer, Lemond victoire 2002 I think? Badge like this

Not a troll and yes it needs some tlc but after the winter it’ll have new cables and hopefully I’ll have found the right size screws for the headbadge. It will also get a new groupset at the end of next year all being well. To be fair it’s decent given it cost me about £500 to build it up and it’s ti and carbon.

Not in Glasgow Merak – I’d have a few options for getting it sorted there but ta for the offer.

I’m going to ask them nicely tomorrow.

Rorschach, are you suggesting the Lemon(d) is a piece of sh*t bike?

Now we have stuff in common firestarter but we’ll have to agree to differ on this point 🙂

just a Kite with discs would be nice

    Agreed.

I’m sure I’m in the minority re. the peregrine but the new wave of old styling just doesn’t float my boat- I much prefer the look of my cross check with alpha q forks than the original forks. Similarly prefer the cielo racer to the standard cx model.

I can see the problem with differentiating similar models but perhaps in a couple years the cx disc ‘issue’ will have evolved as racers adopt discs across the board and a lightweight, race geometry, disc specific race model will come into its own? Leaving you with a disc monster cross, disc road/tourer/cx, canti steel cx [steel is real, cantis are pure etc] and disc ti cx [race weapon].

I don’t envy you the decision trying to build a lineup.

Sam, you don’t have plans for a ti disc cx by any chance?

Meow! Sorry i like the kite but the peregrine does nothing for me. When funds allow a plastic bike will be replaced by an artisan titanium thing of beauty hand welded by bearded pixies. Until then I’m after something lighter than my cross check that I like the look of, sue me 😉

I’d forgotten about the pomp, knew there were a few obvious ones I’d missed. I know this isn’t a true ss but bet it would be fun

I’d forgotten about the day one! Not sure the peregrine is what I’d be after.

    This pic caught my eye

Yeah the phil wood uses normal sized bearings (and wood so hopefully decent quality) Not cheap at £135 from tokyo fixed, not sure if they or sideways have the tool? Thread on here from a while back suggested that druidh (i think?) got the tool via CRC and someone on retro bike has the tool too. However, if it’s just the initial set up then maybe not too bad.

Ideally I’d get a proper ss frame but was thinking of getting a disc cx frame next year – plastic or ti and then putting one of these on. Actually ideally I’d get vertigo or speedvagen to build me something with an ebb and discs 😀

EDIT: that post wasn’t there when I posted!

So you reckon muck boots are worth a look? 😉

My auntie loves them, I just think they look hideous but if they keep you dry and warm amidst piles of mud that’ll do just fine.

Uncle works in a feed supply place so get hunters cheapish was just going to go with a pair of those. In my next life I’ll be getting some nice speedvagen jobs 😉

it’s the stays that stop wider tyres, 25s rub!

EDIT: or do you mean those rims might drop the profile of a 25?

Cheers wasn’t sure if they’d fit. In fact I think I have an s3 lying somewhere…

On a sidenote I wish my Lemond could take wider tyres than 23 for winter 🙁

Did you ever find replacement bearings/size for ordering some? My zs3 is rough and needs new bearings

I’d love a bash at racing with a 1×10, if dropping to inner ring I’d imagine you’d be better hoofing it anyway? Hopefully next year I can afford to run a drivetrain.

I’ve run 9 speed chains and not had any probs (touches wood) plus ss chains sound like tractors in my experience

Not steel but had a gf ferrous before, ss and 29er +/- rigid fork are a great mix

If a pure racer then I’d be equivocal about discs* but as a do everything bike then I think they make much more sense than cantis-more power (limited by traction admittedly), less likely to be rubbish in the wet, prob actually stop you on a mtb trail and less rim wear.

*Not used discs on cx bike btw 😉

50-60 mile Sunday jaunts out to the Surrey Hills and back

I’d love a set of tubs and always curious as to why more people don’t run them recreationally. I realise they cost a fair chunk but if you factor cost of suspension then surely still cheaper than mtb? I know repairs are an issue but if you carried a pre glued spare then as ‘easy’ as sorting a normal puncture?

    Or am I wayyyy off?

Started my first season of cx this year and on a ss. No idea if I’d be quicker on geared bike and for me the course with steep climbs and technical bits have reaped the most rewards.* There’s a vet in notts derby league who is in the top 40 (bear in mind there are about 160-180 riders a race this year!) and he’s on a ss.

*my rewards are pretty paltry, 112th is my top finish-if I went home and finished a race in scottish cx I could smash my own best finish 😀
