This comes at an all too appropriate time for me as I have missed yet more riding due to a virus. I am 73 and it seems I miss more every year. I don’t expect to be as fit as I was forty years ago but the constant drip of minorish ailments gets very depressing.
But still I do get out as often as I can and get no sympathy from my wife who says, ‘What are you moaning about, you’re still here aren’t you ?’

Had a closer look at the Pasta Party and it seems to have flat mount brakes. Odd for an MTB

I can’t buy Briskers , XXL is still too small and they don’t go any bigger.

I have the Deore 10/11 speed on my hardtail with 10spds and it is the best shifting of all my bikes.(with a Zee 10spd shifter)

Why rear hub? What’s wrong with mid motors?
Just curious because I am looking for an ebike and had dismissed rear hub motors.

The Panasonic part is just the battery, the motor is a Bafang which is fairly common so should be easy to get parts for.
    Otherwise I know nothing!

I have tried the Briskers but couldn’t get them on even in XXL.

I have been told Shimano are very difficult to aftermarket even down to replacing the cells. The drawback apparently is the software which is rigged to only recognise genuine parts

It’s part of the naive belief, which I also have, that people who share your hobby or interest, will be nice people. Often they’re just not. Once cycling out in the sticks having seen nobody all day , I saw an mtber cycling towards me I say Hi and he completely ignores me. Some people have a different agenda.

Every time I think of putting drop bars on my rigid MTB I come to the same conclusion as didnthurt, drop bar hydraulics are too expensive. I even looked at the Corner bar but reviews didn’t look promising.
So is there a cheap option to use your existing MTB brakes with drop bars?

I am surprised somebody with more money than me hasn’t sued Shimano under the ‘fit for purpose’ provision of consumer protection legislation. Even if the manufacturer sets a two year warranty period, surely that doesn’t negate your wider consumer rights?

Yeah , tried all the mentioned repairers and they can’t do anything with EO10 and yes electric motors are fairly old tech really but Shimano have made sure the software makes DIY impossible.
I of course have normal bikes but I am 73 and the distance I can get on them seems to grow less every year!
I think I will have to bite on the bullet and hand over a wad of cash to make sure I can keep pedalling til I’m at least 80.

2nd Guide REs. I have them on the ebike and they are excellent. In fact now the ebike has died of Shimanoitis, I will move them on to the normal bike to replace the 4pot Shimano non series, which are good but not as good.

    Any specifically for Android?
Obviously apps and stuff work but just wondered if there was a ‘Find my phone’ equivalent

I have two Brand-X 150 and 170mm which replaced Reverbs. The remote is horrid as people have said above. I have ZTTO on one bike and Shimano on the other, the Shimano is definitely better.

Second Patagonia. I have a few tech tees which are my go to in warm weather. List price is quite expensive but somebody always has a sale.

I bought a Vitus from CRC which failed outside warranty. I did contact them but received an immediate knockback. I only tried because I had heard some people had been sympathetically treated outside warranty.
Anyway I am now trying Madison as it is of course a Shimano motor.
I don’t understand the attitude of some folk on EMTB forums who seem to accept rapid failure of , particularly Shimano, and are happy to shell out £1000 for a new motor every few years

I bought some cheap neoprene knee supports off eBay which fit my battery very well.
As above take off and dry out after a ride.
Batteries do lose some change in cold weather but I can’t see neoprene making much difference minewere just for keeping crap out

Thanks for comments, I had seen the FB group and most of the moans were relatively trivial not like the terminal Shimano complaints. A mate has just bought one but it is far too new to throw up any problems so thought I’d check for problems down the line

Not much help I realise but the Superstar Evos required far too much maintenance. They were fine when working properly but needed new bearings and bushes far too often.

I’ve had Nukeproof, DMR and Burgtec and so far Burgtec are the winners. It is pretty marginal though, they’ve all been good.

I have just experienced this. Dropper failed and was replaced but I immediately got knee pain in my right knee. I thought I had got the new seatpost at the same height as the previous one but clearly I hadn’t. Same setup exactly but post height must have been a nads different. You wouldn’t believe such a tiny difference could make such an impact but it does.

I agree with DanW. My Hunt road wheels wouldn’t go up tubeless from new. I retaped with some new tape they sent me and it worked but as soon as I changed tyres I had to retape again( not with Hunt tape)

The Hydromatics are useless for the shovel handed. I couldn’t even get my hand through the wrist opening even in xxl

After the great hip/fanny/bum bag debate, I too am thinking about a wingnut. However I seem to remember some comments about reduced quality on the newer packs. Have I imagined this or were there genuine concerns, particularly with zips?

I’m with ransos on this one. I seem to get blanked by mtbers far more than roadies.
Even way out in the sticks and I haven’t seen anybody for hours and an MTB appears but it’s rider completely ignores my friendly greeting.
I put this down to me being too old and too uncool.

I think we just have to accept that other people have other tastes in sport and recreation. I have a cycling friend who after 35 years of me telling him has just realised I have absolutely no interest in rugby. We find it difficult to understand why people don’t like what we do and vice versa.

Since I started this thread the motor has gone altogether , reaching permanent EO10 which probably means it is now junk as it is out of warranty. I am now of course in a quandary about next step. Shell out a grand for a new motor or just write it off and sell the (decent) components. The wife says buy the motor , it’s cheaper than a new bike but I suspect the battery is also on it’s way out so another500 quid.
The only good news is that I didn’t pay £10000 for something with the same fragile motor and Santa Cruz on the frame.

That’s what the list on the Shimano website says but a restart doesn’t work until the next day, which seems a bit strange!

I started the previous thread referenced above and after all the advice I bought an Osprey Seral 4. I just can’t get on with it. It’s fine as a bum bag but as a hydration pack it’s poor. There is no port for the bladder tube so it has to poke through the zip entry which means loading has to be careful. The bladder is a poor fit, the bite valve constantly pings off the magnetic keeper. Only good news was I got it very cheap but still a waste of money. I have gone back to a bottle and running hip pack.
I still like the idea but will read these comments more carefully before I spend more money.

On the road I ride with the Pensioner+ Peloton who are decent riders. However time is catching up with us all and the oldest (75) has just bought an ebike. I don’t think it will be long before the rest are looking at them. It means you can still get out for a decent ride but not kill yourself!

Those Hopes look lovely but are they any better than some M520s? I have had a pair for at least 15 years with no problems and at their present price of £30 I would need to live an extra 60 years to get value for money out of the Hopes

76 projects make a neat one that slides on to the bolt on mount. They even do a stick on mount if you don’t have top tube threaded holes on the top tube

Mind you, the crapness of evri has worked for me. Some brakes I ordered were so late that I was given a refund. A week after getting the refund, the brakes arrived. They appeared to have been to N. Ireland, I live in Yorkshire……

Another evri tale. They actually sent me an email to say my seatpost would be delivered next day. Good think I, I can be in.
However incredibly they delivered the day before when I wasn’t in, so they just left it on the doorstep in full view of the road and any passersby. Fortunately it wasn’t nicked but no thanks to evri.

I thought I might as well try Upgrade before ordering from Australia and they actually had one. They seem to have a lot more spares than listed on the website. They were very helpful and the nut arrived in a couple of days.

Thanks reeksy, I have emailed them. I have also discovered that some Japanese cars use similar strange sized nuts so investigating that too

I had this with some X fusion Trace. I managed to chovel up the first couple of threads in the nut so couldn’t do it at all.Solution was to turn the nut upside down which left the built in washer/flat at the bottom. Looked weird but worked. I couldn’t find an original replacement and you can’t get them from fastener suppliers because the thread doesn’t match the spanner size.
