@Duffer

I’ll probably be able to give you a hand with some of the maths if you get really stuck – you just need to sort out a way of me getting in touch with you 🙂

Is there not a course forum that you could ask for help on?

I’m currently nearing the end of MS221 Exploring Maths and feeling in a similar situation to yourself, but the course forum for this has always been quite helpful, plus it’s moderated by course tutors who will let you contact them directly if you’re own tutor is away and ask nicely.

Also do you have an “Assessment Calculator” section on your course website so that you can see what marks are needed to pass this module?

There is a UK advice line available on 0870 333 1 444 which might be worth trying.

WRT to worrying about being able to cope with level 3 courses, think back to when you made the jump between level 1 and level 2. I know that when I was doing level 1 courses I was thinking ‘OMG this is hard, however will cope with level 2?’ Now I look back and laugh at myself for thinking that level 1 was difficult, but I’m sure that I’ll have the same feeling going on to future courses.

I’ve emailed you at the address in your profile in case you want to get in touch with me directly 🙂

What I’m a bit confused about is that when I had a look at the Sierra Cycling website yesterday I clicked on the link for their guestbook and was taken to this page but today when I clicked on the same link it went here instead

Make sure they give enough local anaesthetic!

Tried having one of my lower wisdom teeth extracted by my dentist about 10 years ago – didn’t give me enough local so after prodding around for 10 mins or so she decided to leave it for that session. Sat in the waiting room whilst the receptionist was sorting out forms etc when everything started going spinny resulting in me passing out then throwing up when I came round – I remember the look of horror on the other patients faces 🙂

Anyway the result was that dentist refused to try again and referred me to the the local dental hospital which was fantastic – they give you loads more local anaesthetic than an ordinary dentist would – presumably because they have resuscitation teams on hand in case you have a bad reaction to the anaesthetic, plus the only thing I felt was the injection and it only took about 20 mins – definitely that way to go IMO.

I’m currently studying for a degree in maths with OU, and I’m enjoying it for the most part.

Both physics and engineering will require you to be reasonably good at maths, so I’d recommend starting out with one of the introductory maths modules MU123 or MST121, whilst you decide whether to go for physics or engineering.

There are introductory maths quizzes to see what level of maths you would want to start at and some taster packs of course materials available on OU Maths Choices

If you’re able to get to an OU centre then they will have pretty much all the course texts available for you to look at, and regularly have open days where staff are available for you to discuss courses.

I’m torn between hanging around Caerphilly Castle to see the finish or finding somewhere on Caerphilly mountain… I think both will be equally packed.

Mr Fluffykittens got the same email this morning, and from the email address and name on it I’m fairly sure that the details were got from Chain Reaction, potentially during the scam that occurred during February this year. I suspect that whoever did the initial scam sold the list of email addresses & names to another scammer.

Cardio Trainer and My tracks are both useful when on the bike.

Sundroid is handy for knowing when sunset is, ie do I need to have lights for the bike.

Stats free keeping track of calls/texts/data usage.

Wifi analyzer good if you live in an urban area where there are lots of other wifi networks around – lets you find the least crowded wifi channel for your home network.

Google Listen subscribe to podcasts and listen to them on your phone.

I’m not too fussed about pink clothing, but I would like to see stuff like a pink Crank Brothers multi tool and a pink Lezyne mini pump – mainly to stop my other half nicking my stuff. As it is I think I’m going to have to invest in some “Hello Kitty” stickers… 😉

I also saw it on Film4 a while ago, and I really liked it, but I do like strange films – eclectic taste I believe it’s called 😉

You could try Novatech – they’ve got own brand USB 3.0 in 8Gb and 16 Gb.

I’ve not tried their USB 3.0 sticks but have a few USB2 ones and they’re fine – they do the job and are reasonably priced.

I can’t comment on the OU’s IT courses as I’m studying maths with them.

But I can give you a bit of advice about the changes that are being made to funding/pricing of OU courses: As of Sept 2012 the fees will be increasing pro rata to £5000 for 120 credits, however as I understand it if you are already in the OU studying for a specific qualification then you will qualify for transitional fees (ie cheaper) until 2016.
This page will give more detail about fees in England. If you’re in Scotland or Wales it will probably be cheaper.

Hope this helps.

And there was me thinking that you only did the course so your better half didn’t show you up on the skills front…

Now all you need to do is find an anti-faffing course and you’ll be all set! 😉

Possibly pies, special recovery pies

Looks like I’m spending 11-12th Aug in the kitchen then 😉

But it’ll be special recovery cake, not pies…

If your frame doesn’t have any disc mounts, then you could always go for some forks with disc mounts, and have disc brakes at the front and V brakes at the back.

I’ve used this set-up on a Kona Explosif from circa 97-98, and it’s not too bad. Only real issue I’ve had with it is the forks changing the angles a bit, hence the steering.

NB The above method may be a load of bullshit fed to me by Mr Fluffykittens in order to avoid having me screaming “what the f*** are you taking me down this for? I’ve only got V-brakes you ****!” followed by me asking him to buy the Ti hardtail frame that I’d really like (it’ll be an investment, and we are both the same frame size… 🙂 )

Same problems here.

28/02/11 Ordered from CRC, paid by card.
01/03/11 Items dispatched.
02/03/11 Items arrived.
03/03/11 Card charged by CRC.
07/03/11 Card fraudulently charged with 2*£15 O2 Prepay.
08/03/11 Checked online bank statement, noticed discrepancy, notified bank (Barclays), had card stopped and amount refunded immediately.
10/03/11 Received new card.

Ordered on personal PC running Linux, using Chrome browser.

I wasn’t aware of the potential CRC link until Mr Fluffykittens told me about this thread a few days ago.

All a bit of a pita, and what’s worse is that it was new shoes that I’d ordered and I’ve been too ill to use them 🙁

meh.
