Hey flow – that’s sounding really good. Did you have any more tests done in the end? Good luck with your slow ride and don’t put any pressure on yourself.

I had another blood test for blood sugar, but it was “normal” which is to be expected really as I wasn’t having any symptoms at the time of the test.

I’m looking forward to riding my bike again!

My body is doing a really rubbish job of regulating temperature, a side effect of thyroid. Ended up buying a 13.5 tog duvet and have a bedspread on top, not forgetting bed socks either!! Get very shivery during the day too and my hands are icy cold.

Are you not getting any better at all then on your medication?

I’ve had two X9’s, they are really good. Very quiet and smooth shifting.

Well peeps, its taking a while but I’m definitely getting there.

I have been walking for around an hour everyday for the past week, been keeping my blood sugar levels steady and the stress levels low.

I have been sleeping pretty well and I only ache for an hour at around 3-4 o’clock each day which is strange. I’m not complaining though, better than aching all day!

I have been buying bits for my bike ready for the maiden voyage in hopefully the not to distant future.

I might even take a slow ride on the road bike during the week depending on how its going.

The biggest problem with test riding a 5 is, it’s so good you’ll not want anything else

    Thats the problem I had.

I was perfectly happy with my EX9 and had no intention of buying a new bike until I hired a Five for a day at GT.

I went to Glentress a month or so ago, and the number of Orange 5’s there was rediculous.

Probably because both The Hub and the Peel hire them out.

That’s not the only trail at Afan Grantway. There are many natural climbs that gently weave up to the top of Whites.
And if you start from Bryn bettws, it’s a very gentle incline to the start of all the best descents.
Get away from the GC carpark and Afan climbing is far more inviting and scenic.
Or book in @ Afan Lodge, and the guys there will pont you to some really cool alternative climbs that give you all the best descents in a 2 hour average ride, with extensions up to 2 hours if that’s what you require. They’ll even provide a guide that can take you to some Alpine-esque descents. The waymarked trails are about 2% of Afan

    It still sucks.

Only got my c456 relatively recently and it’s angles feel really good.

Would slackening it by a further 1.5 degrees really be a good idea?

Seems a bit stupid if it feels good, and slacker isn’t necessarily better either.

So contrary to what most people think, the Orange Five is far from the most popular bike.

I’ve been photographing professionally and using it for about 5 years and in some cases it looks too artificial.

Not if you do it right it doesn’t.

Using aperture and depth of field to isolate the rider works a lot better.

    Clearly not

Read the old threads here and elsewhere if your still not convinced or simply too thick to fit a tire without a tube then stick with your 1800s solution…

There’s some pretty dim people on here.

I still have a pair of 2001 Z2 BAM’s in the shed, they were shit. They have a bent steerer, and the stanchions are worn on both legs. Didn’t exactly work well when they were new either from what I remember, they were always blowing seals.

    Maybe in your experience.

I have 2 sets of wheels and about 8 sets of tyres. All will go straight up with a track pump and seal immediately. I’m confident I can change tyres in 10 minutes and be ready to ride (quicker if I’m not bothered about re-using sealant). It can’t really be much easier!

I ripped a couple of tyres in 2010, but haven’t had a single flat in 2011, pulled a nail out of my tyre and it sealed immediately. Works for me!

IME is an abbreviation for in my experience, and in my experience that doesn’t include any of your experiences.

About 3 days, the previous owner used one of those ohh so quaint retro “qick (when not siezed up with mud and salt) release” seatclamps and it’s taken a fair chunk of aluminium out of the back of the post.

My other one just looked a mess after a year of use in the Peaks but should be structuraly OK.

A second hand one doesn’t count!

See how many times this post breaks in a year, then it will be a fair comparison. I bet the Thompson wins!

I’ll send you a pic of my (not quite broken, but I’m always wondering when it’ll finaly snap and rip off my nads) one if you like?

How long have you had that for?

It does change the effective length

The effective top tube length is different it because the top tube is shorter.

17″ AM not being on their website is probably just a mistake on Orange’s part, we’re showing it as an option on our website, and the frames are all the same regardless of spec.

Looks different to me, only a few mm though so you wouldn’t notice, so its pretty pointless.

    FIVE AM

    Frame Size AM 14″AM 16″AM 18″AM 20″

    C. Top Tube 442 559 577 601

    D. Effective TT 564 580 600 620

    FIVE PRO

Nothing will change the effective top tube length

    Definitely no 17″ AM

Putting 160mm forks on a bike will not change the top tube length.

Crap service, possibly the worst ever in fact.

Ordered some tires, didn’t turn up so after a few days I gave them a ring and spoke to the owner. To put it bluntly, he is a rude p*ick. Took over a week for the tires to arrive in the end. Will definitely not be using him again.
