What is a gravel hog ride?

exactly what i was thinking

i can see how you dont need such a large course for a smaller field, but you cant say theyre doing a bad job at covering this event.

i still think that the olympic course should be technically harder, its certainly not as difficult as this.

Cos it’s so televised and well attended compared to WC xc, it needs more, far shorter (a third to half the length?) laps than WC xc, means wider bits for overtaking.

overtaking on its own isnt very exciting though, much better seeing how the top riders tackle the really tough terrain. there was even overtaking on the rock gardens in the womens race – that was exciting to watch.

why does olympic xc need shorter laps?

mmm, for xc racing i think 29 is definitely the way to go. wouldve made the rock gardens and the log bit a lot easier (i imagine)

the 90s called, they want their headangle back.

is that the standard HA for the frame or did you get them to steepen it for you?

find the steepest hill you can and run up it until you cant walk. repeat every couple of days.

    probably achieve the same

well will it or wont it? i presume youve tried the setup you suggest and have compared it to a steel frame then…

i got a blue pig coming off a gt avalanche, definitely noticed the lack of trail buzz on the blue pig but dont expect steel to flex around all the rocks on the trails.

its a mass of 4kg hanging of a metre long bar. for the same force on a 10cm long allen key you would need 40kg.

    so ye pretty tight :-)

superstar dh rim, im really liking mine but then i never was a weenie. i can get some pics if you want to see how the RQ 2.4 comes up on it if you want.

the southern downhill team ran SS dh rims all last season and the chap i know hasnt needed to replace them (and he races in elite). he asked if he could use the am rim as it was a bit lighter but they told him that wasnt the image they were going for

make of that what you will, but imho the superstar rims are top value for money.

    What’s your point caller?

i just thought a lot of the people saying how wrong it is to drop racing litter wouldnt have actually been in the situation to say whether it was wrong, this being stw and all

anyway, im not saying that dropping litter is right, im saying that in a race situation things change and seconds count. when youre trying to keep up with the guy in front the last thing that you need is to be faffing around finding somewhere to store youre sticky gel wrappers.

which is why the permitted drop zone is the best solution. keeps all the litter in one place and would take about 30 mins to clear up. im currently thinking about using double sided sticky tape on the frame though, might work on fairly dry races.

just bought some bars off their bmx department, dispatched last thing on a saturday via parcel force 24hour. if the right bars turn up theyre gonna get top marks from me.

so, out of all the people saying just put it in a pocket, how many of you have entered a race?

Should have a drop-zone. Anything outside of that & you get penalised etc.

i think this is the best solution.

I really don’t want it to happen again, thinking tubeless…

I bought a downhill rim and a mohoosive 2.4 rubber queen. job done :-)

Money would be better spent on a skills course finding the limits of the bike rather than splashing out on new kit.

dont listen to this guy, skill on a bike is directly proportional to how much travel you have, why do you think downhillers have so much?

enough sarcasm, you dont need a bigger bike. get faster than your mate on your frame with ‘only’ 100mm travel, then ask him what hes doing with his extra 40mm :-) its a good feeling knowing your better than someone else.

i thought about blocking someone, but then they got banned. reporting posts does work if theyre genuinely being an arse. at the end of the day its the mods that decide if you need a spanking ban for a few days.

It’s a normal occurrence to see brake temperatures nudging 450C about 20 minutes after landing

gives me a good excuse to post this :D

definately have another go with rubber queens, even if you do have to run tubes :-) .love mine though, big, grippy, quick and its the only tyre ive been able to run at sensible pressures without hitting the rim on the ground. not sure if thats because of its size (2.4) or the 1.5 ply sidewall, but i dont care much either way so long as it stays this good.

My new CX bike is 2×10 but they’ve stuck such a narrow block on it I don’t even know why they bothered, the range is so tight they could have given it a good range of ratios with 6-speed.

but youd have massive gaps in between each gear. its not all about the overall range between the gears.
