Ive tried both and i think rollers are more fun. as said above they still make you work pretty hard despite not having any built in resistance.

my top tip: turn the bars to keep your balance rather than trying to lean (leaning doesnt work on rollers like it does on the road)

if you already do a lot of running and just want to mix it up, buy a pair, theyre great fun (ive got the KSOs). if theyre going to be your only running shoe i wouldnt be so sure.

Plus I reckon they’re best suited to lighter builds if you want to use them for running – which I do

id say the reverse, ‘normal’ running would put more strain through your knees than barefoot running would. so the advantages might be even more for heavy guys.

but i feel the same. hardtails are most awesome everywhere apart from where suspension can pick up the back wheel over multiple hits, then suspension is definitely faster. im in the same sort of boat at the moment. really want a bottlerocket, but cant really justify it, and like you say, you have to be going warp speed to make a full sus as fun as a hardtail.

If a company could come up with something than has 100-115mm travel, good angles, strong enough to ride DH, but could be built up to around 30 lbs and in proper sizes, they would be onto a winner.
