It does actually make sense when you consider how exposed to mud and water a jockey wheel is

ah didnt think about that. im presuming though that the races are still stainless steel as 100% cearmic bearings are hideously expensive.

    berties of highcliffe

i may be slightly biased cus i worked there over the summer, but loads of people who came in said the food tastes great. the place was cleaned every night and all the leftover food was thrown out at the end of every night (if it wasnt eaten by me first :-) )

so you didnt really want the bike then, did you OP

lower bb, faster steering due to shortening of trail (and less rotating weight) and the best compromise of roll-ability and flick-ability.

if any marketing types want to give me a job, email’s in the profile

ive found that shouting “bike” rather than excuse me works a lot better. they instantly know youre a bike trying to get past rather than someone asking for help.

or just reach and stack and be done with it all.

    nice rant, 8/10

thats the thing though, youre still using the 9 speed cranks, just with different rings, so the spacing between them is the same. on a proper 10 speed crank the rings are closer together.

OP sounds to me as if hes planning on using a 10 speed crank.

Madison Flux and Charge Spoon are pretty much the same. There is another one too but I have forgotten the name.

    something by gusset

on a 10 speed crank the chainrings are closer together, but the 9speed chain will work on it no problems.

but, changing my 9 speed triple to a 10 speed triple caused enough problems on my setup that im taking off the big ring as i couldnt get the chain to stay on there on the downhills :( ; the derailluer wasnt in the right place to keep the chain on it. i liked having a big ring so im still not sure how 2×9 will work out.

that was on a tripple though so it may be ok on a double crank.

im tired, so if that makes no sense let me know and ill try to explain it again :-)

that mega trail looks like an absolute hoot to ride.

just set to it with a hacksaw. it doesnt matter if the cut’s a little wonky because the top cap presses on the flat surface of a spacer/stem anyway.

id like the big ring even more if i bought one in 38/40 tooth size. 42/44 teeth is too big for off road (i still got it though). i like being able to shift one chainring at the front to loose/gain a load of gear inches, rather than having to work my way from one side of the cassette to another.

ECC are planning to provide opportunities for experienced riders of a suitable standard who are interested in riding the course the chance to join guided rides before the adaptations are completed.

do they not realise that people have been riding bikes on their own since they were invented. this is pretty sad.

Steering is very flippy floppy. Once you get past maybe 10/15 degrees either side of dead ahead it flops over fast. This is noticable on the trails. I not like, esp if going quite quickly!

yup, thats what bikes are like with slack headangles…you didnt buy it to potter round trailcentres did you?

anyway, yes shorter forks will steepen the headangle.
