try to get one with a geared tuner on the fifth string, rather than a friction one. theyre more expensive, but apparently are easier to tune properly.

being able to only have to play four strings means banjos are super easy, and fun to learn on. bluegrass finger picking ftw.

you could maybe try heating up the tyres on a raditor/with a hairdryer to make them a bit more flexible. just thought of that though so no idea if it would work. or put a bit of washing up liquid on the bead.

its pretty cool stuff. my flatmate repaired a pair of his shoes with it and it dries pretty ‘gummy’. people use it on skate shoes so it should be fine for mtb shoes.

maybe if youd have had tried to explain your situation without swearing all the time and generally being a tool there might have been a different outcome ;)

return of the penny farthing. little wheel at the back so you can pump the terrain, big wheel up front for speed, and it fixed gear for smoother pedaling and faff freeness in the winter… *runs off to drawing board and hires marketing company*

i can wholeheartledly reccommend cwm rhaeadr (phwoar i even spelt it right fist time :D). short, about 7km, but you do laps of it, and you get faster every time. its about an hour or so away from afan.

yep, definitely couldve been better, but a cool thing to have in swansea. it just needed more features, a big drop wouldve been cool on the big hill and some turns across the hill wouldve made it a prime watching position. top of the course was pretty sweet, watching the fast boys throw themselves down the first steps was mental.

i didnt have a problem with the crown race, mine was a split one so just slid on with finger pressure.

got a gravity dropper on there now, and yes, i will get round to lopping some of the stearer off at some point

I ride 60a dry conditions tyres all year round, my only recommendation would be for you to try doing the same. (unless you’re racing)

oh ye, cus the conditions where everyone rides are the same as yours  one of the most noticeable improvements you can make on a bike is putting the right tyres on for the conditions. you dont have to be racing to notice that one tyre is finding grip in mud where another would become a slick after one revolution.

Plus there’s no train stop at any trail centre I’ve been to yet!

afan: get the train to port talbot, and then follow the cycle path all the way to afans doorstep, about a 20 minute ride.
cwm carn: train to newport then change for crosskeys. then its about 15 minutes by bike if i remember.
