So what’s everyone’s plan regarding new forks when you get your refunds?

It’s a shame the support is seemingly lacking from wiggle an crc. To be honest its ruining the experience of owning the mezzers waiting for issues and means I can’t sell my old pikes.

    Any word from Wiggle yet?

So Onzadog pointed me in the direction of this thread. I also purchased some mezzers from wiggle, which are also the RevA lowers. When I opened mine one of the bottom out bumpers was loose, no bushing play yet…

I contacted Wiggle and they have said I can send them back for warrenty inspection, but really I would rather they just sent out the updated lowers as in the USA and NZ. Without a guarantee they will replace the lowers I am loath to send them back. I would get in touch with Wiggle and get them sent back to see if they can get source some RevB lowers.

Keep us updated as to your outcome.

Try Halford shock and unlock penetrating oil. Got my seized pivot bolt out no problem after I had been beating on it pretty hard with no success using WD40 and GT85.

Have I look at this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CWKOClDDoE, not something I would want in the UK – expensive to replace too.

Try that, I ride there often and this loop takes in pretty much all the good descents. Can provide you with a gpx if wanted.

That sounds like the spring is too short!

Pretty sure that the 2014 pikes have no difference in air chamber size.

The later models have a different -ve chamber seal head but i think that’s it Spring is 29cm long, bit I would have thought they would all be the same length as the travel only depends on air shaft length and the air chamber is the same size no? Anyway fork feels good, looking forward to riding it at the weekend!

Hi, thanks Tom – bit of an update, Richard gave me the length of the 160mm spring rod (213mm). I took it out and measured it and it was correct, this was also evident from the fact I could extend the forks 10mm or so by pulling them before the spring rod stopped further extension.

I then figured out there was quite a large 10mm gap between the top of the spring and air cap, even with the white preload spacer so the forks sat 10mm into their travel. To remedy I cut down an air token to fill the gap and now they are sitting at about 155mm available travel with just the weight of the bike. Hope that all makes sense!

The forks are a 2014 pike rc, maybe these have a slightly bigger air chamber than later models?

Thanks stompweaver, have emailed Richard and he replied saying to ensure the editing is correct (whatever that means?), but he agrees the overall length is controlled by the spring shaft so hopefully he can get a new one sent out.

Ah right ok thanks, will that give me the missing travel back?

Has anyone else experienced a loss in available travel upon installing their coil kit?

Got mine today, the kit comprising a spring, shaft with top hat, white spacer, sheet of acetate and spring clip. Installed with the white spacer at the base of the shaft at the base of the leg. When it was all bolted together again I seem to be sitting at the 10% sag marker on my 160mm pikes giving less than 150mm travel with no weight (not even the bike) on the forks. I can pull the fork out to show the full 160mm but they suck back.

Has everyone else got the amount of travel expected from their fork?

Not to worry, Just wanted to check it was not the sort of bolt you can buy for 50p rather than spending £20.

Thanks for all the help, will have a quick check for broken brakes and if none are available buy the lever.

Thanks for the bolt type. The diameter of the bolt is c.9mm (only have a ruler to hand) and the length of the bolt when screwed into the female part is c.20mm.

Unfortunately, I cant remove the bolt from the front right now as I only have one 4mm allen key to hand and both the bolt and nut need 4mm keys to stop them spinning.

Ok, I have 2014 Slants and my brother has 27.5 Pikes. Clearance with his 27.5 wheel in both (Bonty XR4 2.3 – comes up big) is roughly the same in both, despite the slants being 26″. I tested this by putting my thumb between the brace and tyre on both forks.

    A week or two?

Should be almost overnight. Not a week or two.

My brother had a similar issue with his Formula brake on his Cube Stereo from a LBS. They still had to send it back to Silverfish to have it fixed under warranty – still took over a week

Just to balance out the Canyon poor warranty theme – I had a Nerve XC which had a faulty brake (Formula RX leaking fluid and seized calliper). Sent Canyon an email, and they asked me to send it back, within a week or two they posted me back a brand new brake and covered postage.

However, I did struggle to get hold of the UK office on the phone when buying the bike and it felt a little short (Medium – 5’10).

Ok cheers. They do sell new chainstays for £350 or so, but that makes it a rather expensive upgrade!

I am 5’10” and test rode the large and medium then bought the large. I had to have too much post out in the medium, but love the fit of the large.

I would budget for replacing the tyres, I also replaced the forks after six months with some x fusion slants.

The rear shock was blowing through the travel with a high volume air sleeve on it, I improved this massively by adding a shim cut from a milk bottle. This is a five minute job.

Bike is quite heavy but goes up hill fine and feels very solid and stable downhill.

The yellow on the AM4 is also much brighter than shown on the Commencal website, which makes me happy 🙂

Yesterday I carved some 🙂 into some flat stones at the top of the Bailey Bridge Descent to inspire people (exposed ridge dropping down into the forest). Did anyone see them?

Also reminds me of this, where a woman got a cyclist stuck in her windscreen and left him to die over a few days in her garage rather than get help.

Thanks coatesy, I have dropped Canyon an email. I like to do all of my maintenance myself, but stripping brakes and rear shocks are two things I have not got round to.

The LBS have quoted £50 based on an hours labour and a £20 seal kit. I would give it a go myself but there is really very little out there on the net, which I guess is a good thing in a way.

The bolt is Alu I think (galvanic corrosion?), therefore it should be quite easy to drill it out?

    Flippinkipper

I have the forks back, and think I will either just bash it down out the way or try and drill it out. Drilling may be more difficult as NW mentioned though as it has the bolt seized in it.

Indeed, I think the steerer tapers in toward the base so I could tap it down but not out. I think I may go and retrieve the forks.

The frame is steel – just been reading about cold setting on Sheldon Brown, so not too much of a problem there then – hopefully.

It’s strange, but before I sat heavily on the saddle, when both saddle rails are clamped in, but with the bolt loosened off I could adjust the tilt. But now it seems to be jammed – I could not get either side to move at all. I’ll give it another go tomorrow – maybe it needs a bit of encouragement from a hammer!
