That guy needs a good tidy.

Is there a certain irony about a possible thief selling a bike with a lock? Hard to say whether it’s dodgy tho…

Bit too much vocal stuff for my tastes but good show on firing a mix up

Fair play, not everyone digs vocals.

Before everyone thinks this is a vocal-fest ‘Where you belong’, ‘Vicious Circle’ and ‘Kaskade’ are the vocal tracks in the mix, they’re blowing up at the minute and I thought worthy of inclusion.

The chap does sound a bit special, but you just have to laugh at these sort of folk. They are everywhere…not just on bikes…

if i wanted to buy a new car, could i not go and get a tiny tiny bag of crap 2cv, but with a pased MOT, for 150 quid, and trade it in the next day?

No, as I understand it you need to have had the car registered under your name for a minimum of 12 months and the scheme ends in a year…

My old dear is in the market for a new car.

Can anyone see any pitfalls if I were to purchase the car, utilise this scheme with the banger I own and then transfer the new car ownership over to her once the sale is complete?

Other than the fact that I will no longer have a car of course…. 🙁

I have the Louise BAT Carbons. They are lightweight, look great, have decent power, but probably wouldn’t buy them again.

Reason being that they are an absolute PITA to bleed without getting covered in mineral oil – everywhere, simply due to the design. I also found the bite point adjusted to be pointless as I always have it wound right in anyway and it’s still quite a fair lever throw. You will need long fingers to get on well with the levers.

I have also got to send them back due to warranty issue with the seals – although they do have a 5 year warranty as long as you use their pads, but it’s still extra hassle.

I reckon I will probably be looking at Shimano next time as I’m not 100% convinced.

    Hope that helps.

If you do and the insurers find out (for instance after a later claim), this may invalidate your policy.

Interesting, I’m assuming that this is if health complications appear further down the line – whiplash for example?

Would a liability waiver signed by both parties not get around this?

Obviously you have never suffered from this.

You might want to have a look about half way down this thread…

    😆

It was a third party claim so I basically claimed from the person responsible for the accident – not from my own policy (which was protected anyway).

Apart from one place in Brighton, most of the bike shops I’ve popped into down here have been pretty standoffish; a bit too ‘cool’ for me. In fact, some owners are downright hostile, and obviously have better things to do that help out an enquiry from a friendly customer.

That pretty much sums up the current service from the local Kent shops. Wildside have had a mixture of very good, friendly staff members – in particular one of the floor staff (now left) and mechanics. However it’s very much hit and miss these days. I’ve stopped using them on a regular basis for the reasons you mention.

Cycleops in Tonbridge is similar, one member of staff in there is particularly rude and abnoxious and has put me off using them altogether.

A real shame as I’d gladly spend money in a bike shop (rather than over t’internet) if I felt that I was getting the service to match the price premium.

It doens’t affect your no claims since you’re claiming on their policy not yours.

This is what I thought until my policy went up by £80 as a result of a no-fault third party claim (despite 6yrs NCB and over 25). Basically I got rear-ended in stationary traffic by someone who wasn’t looking. Clearly found not at fault, claimed £300 odd quid for the damage and all done and dusted.

HOWEVER… Most insurers ask you to reveal details of ALL claims when you are taking out a policy – regardless of whether you are at fault, or your no claims bonus, etc. This is what I had to do and my policy went up as a result. This happened with about 80% of the insurers on a couple of the comparison sites. It makes a mockery of the idea of ‘no-claims’ bonus protection and indeed the whole system when you are penalised for something that is not your fault, and you have claimed from a third-party.

Needless to say, I voted with my feet and jumped ship to an insurer who didn’t apply this. So try and settle damage without using your insurer if possible. Or find an insurer who doesn’t penalise.

    Second that.

Virtualbox is a superb bit of free software that lets you run an Operating System within an Operating System – a sandbox if you like. You can run the two concurrently and switch between desktops freely.

Sounds top. Something I’d like to do at some point – whenever I go for a walk up there with the gf I usually end up ignoring her and checking out lines, hehe!

Sensible hat on now though – I would say that if you absolutely have to do it, make sure you leave no trace (i.e. go when it’s dry and when you won’t be seen like billyboy).

If anyone is ever caught, don’t get rude and argumentative as this gets fed back to the conservators and they use it as a reason not to allow bikes on the forest at all. This is what was done recently at the last meeting that took place a month or two back.

XBMC (for the orginal Xbox) is very very good. Streams flawlessly, plays just about every format under the sun and is quite customisable. It’s also dirt cheap to get running, easily do-able for under £40 all in.

Downsides are that you have to get an xbox chipped, or softmod it (fairly easy to do if you are remotely technically minded) in order to be able to install it properly.

It also don’t think it does HD very well so if you have a big plasma or LCD with 720 or 1080 you would be wise to consider something else like the 360.

Mine is now retired and I have a 360 which is an adequate replacement for media. No complaints so far as it seems to be doing an ok job.

Davey – you could be right there mate, but I’m not going to make presumptions about the RSPB…

The area in question has been used for many years by local cyclists until recently – both serious and family recreational riders. It is quite a large piece of land used by comparatively small numbers and significant and visible erosion has never been a problem, so I don’t think that trail maintenance is required, but it’s a good point, thanks.

It’s for these reasons and more that I think there is a valid argument for allowing access again, which is why I want to get in touch.

IMBA is a good call. Now if I could just find that forum! 😀

I can see you’ve written these sorts of letters before! 🙂

Seriously though, Cycling is a ‘green’ mode of transport, is an excellent means of enjoying nature and the local surrounds with minimal impact, whilst providing health benefits at the same time.

If I was a cynical man I might look at it in the way you have described, however, it’s the above arguments I am looking to bolster and put across in a concise and convincing manner.

    Hi GJP.

Advice from me – take it easy, minimise significant physical and mental stress on the body as much as possible and try Co Enzyme Q10 (from 30 up to 120mg) and an l-carnitine/alpha lipoic acid combo.

These offer an excellent boost for energy levels and can really help support the immune system. I’m talking from a similar experience to you. I have researched and tried many different approaches and these work best for me, your mileage may vary.

Gentle exercise is a good way to speed up recovery from a virus BUT DO NOT OVERDO IT as you can make things worse in the long run. Swimming and walking are two very good activities to get you back on your feet, I would DEFINITELY advise staying away from Cycling or anything that will significantly elevate your heart rate until you feel 100pc.

    Get well soon.

Love Giant bikes, ever since racing one in my Teens back in the nineties. I’ve had a few different brands since, but it’s hard to beat the quality vs value from the brand.

Now have an Anthem (bought from Classifieds) and an XTC singlespeed. Top bikes.

Richpips – DK is spot on above. I am very lazy at taking a camera out and about with me (yes, surely the whole point of one I hear you shout), however I make sure I have a mobile phone and as such I have found the SE K800i to work very well for a spontaneous shot.

The optics are not perfect. There are odd occasions where you do get a slight ‘goldfish bowl’ effect on the images, but overall I’m quite satisfied with it. It’s also a bit of a bargain considering it plays mp3s and video (i.e. films, TV), but it’s quite chunky.

Here are a couple of random shots that illustrate the sort of image it produces (resized):

Ubuntu is a very good linux OS but…

You might want to consider giving Linux Mint a go. It’s based on Ubuntu but includes a few things that Ubuntu doesn’t have installed by default that you will need (i.e. saving you the trouble) – such as flash installation and the microsoft font pack (msttcorefonts) that you will need to view web pages correctly.

    Linux Mint Linky

    Have fun exploring…

You need to create an embedded link in flash itself, rather than an href link in Dreamweaver.

Basically, create a transparent layer on top of your button graphic in flash and use the geturl functions in actionscript.

Or if you have created the graphic actually as a button symbol then you need to just click on it in flash and go to the actions panel. The correct code will look something like this…

    on (release) {
    getURL(“http://www.inserturlhere”);
    }

Then just call in the flash media into Dreamweaver – no need to assign the html hyperlink in DW if it is working correctly in flash.
