Cheers gelert and the rest of you. I’ll be on my cross bike so some of those comments mean I’ll be looking at sustrans I think. Liking the look of all the old industrial architecture.

As a enduro virgin I spoke to loads of people who had completed the course on the Saturday to try and get a feel for what lay ahead. Loads of horror stories didn’t help my nerves and a couple of guys from my group were saying it was more technical than last year too, great.
My 10 year old full sus bailed me out more than once but I rode everything and didn’t think it too bad. Yes there where quite a few ‘moments’ but I stayed on, didn’t hold anyone up and had a great day.
Personally, I think it was about spot on difficultly wise. Yes i was out of my comfort zone at times but others in my group were having a complete blast.
Really enjoyed the competitive, head down charging descents and looking forward to next year. But definitely getting some training in first.

Coming from Norfolk and getting very little riding in lately I was pleased to have survived. Sundays weather also added another dimension to the unreal (for me) terrain. I’ve never ridden anything remotely that steep before.
30 mins was my veteran time on a 2006 5 spot, which dropped it’s chain on 2 stages.
    Definitely going again next year.
Hope the injured person on stage 3 was OK.

Cheers chaps, looks like you’ve confirmed my fears. I’d better get myself booked in at the docs. I don’t suppose getting an xray or mri to confirm the damage is going to be easy.

Wow, BBC are issuing a high winds weather warning for Sunday. Added to my lack of riding lately, this should make the day a smidge tougher.

How is it nearly August, I haven’t started training yet 😯
Anyone got some advice for an armour wearing novice? Im going to the lbs tomorrow to try some fox launch pro knee pads for starters.

You could take a look at Bewilderwood, we have season tickets as my 5 & 8 year olds (& I) love the place. Den building, zip wires, tree houses, slides etc etc.

Anyone in Morzine (pds area) at the moment, how is it? I’m off there at the weekend and the forecast looks fairly warm.

Baby born is pretty good but a long stretchy fabric sling was the best for the early weeks. Papoose is great for hilly or rough terrain but we don’t use it that often.
Phil and teds sport is the best of the buggies we’ve had (it’s the one I wanted to start with but was over ruled). It suits what we do as a family really well. Yes it takes up half the boot but so do most of them. It’s tough, rolls well, multiple seat positions, spares and accessories. Seats two (in tandem) with the extra seat, which can be a godsend with tired older siblings. Ours was 2nd hand from friends and is now on its 5th child and still going strong.

Compound has been fine and I’ve been happy with them on all my bikes until one pad feel apart the other day. Whilst fitting the front wheel of my wife’s bike I gently caught the rotor against the pad and it fell off. Pads were newly fitted in October had only had a couple of easy rides. On closer inspection there was a lot of rust at the pad/ metal backing interface, I’m guessing there wasn’t much adhesive holding it together.

In all seriousness I would have a look on the for sale section/ eBay for rough values. Then compose your add, bung it on the classifieds and be prepared to drop your prices if it doesn’t sell, simple.
I get the feeling a lot of folk are expecting dirt cheap 26″ kit atm so you might be disappointed at the 2 nd hand value of your frame, fork and wheels.
Good luck in your sale and not getting too much flack for a currently sore topic 😉

£50 would be my offer, scrap value for obsolete wheel size.

Heli tape arrived today, so I can start swapping components off the old frame tomorrow whilst the Mrs is at work. Just need to sort something for the kids to do whilst daddy is busy for a couple of hours, hummmm!

I went for a 19″ as I’m 6ft, the tt is slightly shorter than my current 18″ inbred which felt a bit long at times.

Was fine on my inbred but that only had a head tube length of approx 110mm iirc.

My rc31’s are 440 a-c and I would use them but the steerer is just under 200mm. Taking into account the 140mm head tube plus headset and there’s not much room left to fit a stem, approximately 30mm.

    Mines arrived yeah 🙂
Rc31 steerer length too short, boooo 🙁
Now need some new forks possibly for 69er use, what length a-c should I get, maybe carbon, most probably steel. Suggestions please.

I’m liking rockedogs 69er. I currently have some old rc31 forks which might be able to squeeze a 29″ wheel in. Failing that I’ve always fancied some salsa Cro motos, just need to track some down.

Being 6ft I’ll take note of the driving position whilst on the test drive but really it’ll be the wife’s car and she’s only 5’6″.
Not to bothered about the car driving enjoyment, that’s what motorcycles are for 🙂

Are DPF’s an issue on all modern diesel cars? Can you tell I’m new to this car buying lark

Good point about seats, especially with alps trips in mind. Boot seats will rarely be used, only really need 4 seats but larger cabin than current c max.

No thanks Matt, was just wondering who else rode older boards. Quite looking forward to riding an old style camber board again.

We run a 5kw stove to heat downstairs and use approx 1 ton of mostly oak a month. My parents place goes through between 1 and 1.5 tons per week! New biomass boiler should be up and running by the end of the year so should make heating the old place loads easier.

I’ve had a nasty choking cough for about 5 months now 🙁
Seen the doc and had a couple of doses of antibiotics for suspected chest infection but that didn’t shift it. Then had a chest xray which started me worrying, thankfully it came back all clear. Next stop is th asthma nurse in a couple of weeks. So I can sympathise with you Op, fingers crossed you get sorted soon.
