Freight Worse Than Death? Slopestyle on a Train!

@relapsed mandalorian
Quick look round to see if anyone saw that, nope, never happened :D
Barney sometimes ends up in a heap running across undulating fields or on a beach. He likes running and bouncing around in long grass too, which is fine until the ground disappears and rolls down a bank.
Not much running about this weekend though, more lying about and enjoying the sun.
flickerFree MemberBullshot (1983) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bullshot_(film) – I’ve yet to meet anyone outside of our family that has seen this. Probably watched it 100+ times as we lived abroad and this was ‘hilarious’ and we had a copy on VHS
Must have been a good 30 years ago but I’ve seen it, may be rose tinted spectacles but remember it being very funny, not sure I dare watch it again, probably awful :D
flickerFree MemberOoh! I’d forgotten about Boss Level, really good, Tomorrow War too.
There’s a film with Ryan Reynolds where he’s talking to the heads of Anna Kendrick and someone else in his fridge, can’t remember the name though.
6 underground, ludicrous, marvellous.
1flickerFree MemberGood call, I enjoy battleship too.
I’ll add Pacific Rim and Love and Monsters to the list too.
7flickerFree MemberSome good suggestions so far, I’ll add Free Guy to the list, great fun, ridiculous but great fun :D
flickerFree MemberYeah, fair ball park. Rewire in an occupied n furnished property is a horrible job.
It’s a horrible job to do in an empty house, I’d double the price if it was fully furnished :D
flickerFree MemberI’ve been considering stoozing again now the interest rates are higher. Had around £40k on cards prior to 2007, I still use 0% cards for big purchases and drip feed the payments.
flickerFree Member“punctuation is mostly in tact”
Are we reading the same OP? I’d agree on 7 out of 10. The lack of full stops really adds to the feeling of rage building.
It’s mostly there, could do with a smattering of commas/full stops, but no one in a spittle flecked rage has time for any form of punctuation/spelling, and for all we know this could be his best work. There’s even a couple of apostrophes in there, one’s rogue but maybe he’s a greengrocer?
5flickerFree MemberGiven that insurance companies are rarely in the red because of the payouts they make, it would seem buying policies is a mugs game. And that by buying insurance, you are paying for other people’s care anyway, as well as a margin for the insurance company.
If you can’t self insure, you’re just sponging of more careful people and don’t deserve to go on holiday.
Either I’ve completely misunderstood or this makes little sense to me.
I would hope most businesses are rarely in the red, after all operating costs are covered they’re there to turn a profit for their owners and shareholders. Obviously you’re paying for other people’s care, I’d rather that than them paying mine though. How is it a mugs game? Insurance is there to cover costs in an eventuality that you can’t or don’t wish to realistically cover yourself.
Very few of us would be doing anything if we had to self endure, holidays, driving, home ownership to name a few, you’re going to need a big bank balance to cover those.
2flickerFree MemberStrong marking, I think that needs to go to adjudication. At a cursory glance spelling and punctuation is mostly in tact, no swearing, zero threats of violence. I feel 7/10 would be more appropriate, good, but room for improvement.
flickerFree MemberAs @fossy said, weak/failing batteries can cause all sorts of problems, change the battery and see how it is then.
If it’s still noisy and down on power then I’d be getting the timing checked first, I think they’re a chain driven engine, possibly jumped a tooth or two during the failed starting attempts.
flickerFree MemberAs I recall, 20 and 21 were extraordinarily long and dry summers, 22 was similar, 23 started well but lost it’s way around the end of June. It’s been raining ever since.
20, 21 and 22 were the anomalies, normal service has now resumed (although a bit on the wet side)
flickerFree MemberI can’t say it’s something I’ve ever noticed on any beach I’ve ever been to, I guess it might be a problem for seaside towns but I avoid them because they’re full of people.
flickerFree MemberThe nesting bird argument I can understand the dog mess, not so much…(Not aimed at either of you, more the councils who put the restrictions on place)
2flickerFree Memberfolks that use Tesco carrier bags as bin bags. So their black bins have a dozen of these in it, rather than one black bin bag.
We reuse Tesco/Sainsbury’s/whatever plastic bags as bin liners in bathroom bins, we could throw those away and buy bin specific liners if you’d prefer.
8flickerFree MemberIf I hated dogs, I’d just avoid the clearly labled dog threads. That stealth dog birthday present thread though…
Woah woah woah!
Away with you an your reasonable behaviour, it has no place here. If I don’t like something then I’m going to make damn sure everyone knows, repeatedly, whether that’s what the thread was about or not….
4flickerFree MemberThat never gets old does it?
No, never. My wife can set the clock by him, 5 o’clock and he’s off to the front window to watch for me cycling back down the drive, as soon as he sees me he races back through the house and beats the shit out of his toys, picks his favourite for the day and then waits by the back door for me, playtime!
6flickerFree MemberBack to dogs are pointless, they are not. My dog plays a significant part in maintaining my mental health, if you think that’s pointless I cant help you further.
Yup, very much not pointless or at least no more pointless than 8 billion humans. Barney, without fail is excited to see me every time I set foot in the house, even if I’ve only popped out to the garage for five minutes :D He makes me smile, a lot.
flickerFree MemberHa! Tony Robinson will have the last word, he’s quite adept at digging holes.
TJ who? Never heard of him….
Glances at new patio….
Edit: Doh! Threads moving too fast
4flickerFree MemberWell, I’m only ever eating in restaurants that allow dogs from this point onwards :D
flickerFree MemberDogs know no better.
There’s a surprising number of men and women who don’t wash up after visiting the bathroom and return to their meal, they do know better.
flickerFree Member8/10 with the potential to go higher. Put some more generalisations in, touch more hyperbole, perhaps go in on the cat owners a bit harder?
:D great thread so far, cheered me right up on a wet winter…. spring day
I think stw missed a trick with the Gaza thread, should have made it a no holds barred free for all, anything goes, swearing, insults, death threats, but in that thread alone. Would make great lunchtime reading….
flickerFree MemberWetherspoons don’t allow dogs, so that should provide a nice environment to have a nice quiet meal. Oh wait….
So that’s Wetherspoons and McDonalds offered as dog free eating establishments so far, I think I’ll be eating with the dogs :D
There’s a couple of local country pubs we use fairly regularly, both have dog/no dog areas but they’re fairly large so have plenty of room. One of the m has three log burners on the go, firm favourite for Barney when we visit over winter.
As others have said, it’s rule #1, barney lies at our feet and has a snooze or people watches, we wouldn’t take him in if he’s filthy and he isn’t allowed on the furniture at home so certainly wouldn’t be on the seats when we’re out and about.
From my own experiences other peoples kids are far more irritating than other peoples dogs, off to the back room with them away from decent folk trying to enjoy their meals.
flickerFree MemberDoes having armour, whilst thin help to distribute the force at all? Either way if you can find one with say 10mm of padding that will be better than nothing. 10mm isn’t much to decelerate in but it is more than nil. I had some shorts several years ago with hard shell but some sort of semi rigid foam protection pads about 10mm thick in it.
Or what about those inflating horsey coats?! Need to leave the horse (or bike) for it to work so maybe no help in this scenario.
Yes it’ll distribute the force and is certainly better than nothing.
Do you mean the airbag vests? if so I’ve tested one, thoroughly :D
I used to race short circuits, mainly Oulton park and Anglesey, stopped early last year. I’ve had a number of high and low speed offs over the years, some with body armour only (I use the latest Knox armour) and the last big off was whilst wearing a gps/sensor controlled airbag. I’ll take the airbag any day, it really is a game changer.2flickerFree MemberNo idea on the science, but I took a tumble down a steep granite slope wearing an old school Dianese jacket thing last year. I was completely unscathed. Not a mark, obviously much lower forces and my jersey looked like it had been attacked by an angry cat.
Twenty years ago, when I broke my wrist, a bit of flint took a large chunk out of the centre of a spine protector, my back was fine.
Skills, that’s definitely the way to do it, if you can, try not to hit anything square on :D It’s the rapid deceleration that’s the problem. Glancing off stuff and tumbling is much preferred, only real risk is maybe a broken limb, heals quicker than soft tissue damage though.
I do a lot of enduro (motorbike) and end up on the floor regularly, flung over the front, back or off the sides onto all sorts, sometimes the bike decides to hit me too, which is nice. Decent gear is a must, motocross boots, knee braces, padded shorts, body armour that covers abdomen, ribcage, chest, back, shoulders, elbows/forearms, neck brace and helmet, you still feel it. Worst so far was having the bike land on me and the handlebar end hitting me in the thigh, like superman had flown down and given me a dead leg :(
flickerFree MemberSo now, after searching for chest protection, I’m not sure anything would have prevented the outcome of that impact. D30, foam, articulated plastic etc I think would all just transfer the same force.
Any similar experiences or thoughts?
Sounds like a decent wack, and you’re right, nothing is going to prevent the outcome when you get it properly wrong, forget the marketing bullshit, you’re putting 10mm of foam/plastic between you and a tree, it’s going to hurt. What you’re looking to do is reduce the severity of the injuries and reduce the chances of puncture wounds and abrasions which can cause more complications on top of any primary injuries.
2flickerFree MemberIs this forum run by Fujitsu?
Yes…
and it’s all your fault!
1flickerFree Membergot a message asking me what the least I’d take is
Yeah, really your reply should have been £60 or just immediately block them.
Mrs f is ruthless now when it comes to selling locally on FB marketplace. Everything she lists is put on at bargain prices to shift it, any messages of best price/lowest she’d accept and they’re straight on the block list, I think she has most of the local time wasters blocked now 😁, never struggles to sell whatever tat she has listed.
flickerFree MemberTwo options really
Get yourself down there and help her change the toilet. Even after tool purchases she should make a hefty saving.
Otherwise, pay the plumber. The price is the price, not much point complaining about it, she’s had a number of quotes around the same cost.
3flickerFree MemberXXXXtrackworld thread titles.
Makes my teeth itch for some reason. Never open them. Sometimes I see the title and think – yep, I suspect I might have something useful to contribute to that…but see that title – they can get to **** and sort it out by themselves.
#irrationaltrackworld.
Add ‘amusing’ copycat thread titles to that list too.
Any of you with teenage daughters who’ve had that withering look of disdain/contempt from them? Well that’s how the rest of us feel when we spot your comedy thread title.
Just stop it.
1flickerFree MemberI use trustnet when researching funds and you can build your own portfolios/values etc
