i have no need for it, i didn't ask for it and i'd be just as happy without it but there are a lot of people seem to be jealous of a poxy grey arrow.
it doesn't in any way, shape, or form make my life any better.

what i'm trying to get across is that surely a "big" rider can ride light with experience.

    skip to the end…

my ex is a press photographer and has won numerous awards for the pic she's taken but she refuses to do wedding pics on the side as most photographers are scared to fnck up some bint's big day so you'll probably have to pay a fair whack for a pichur taker who's game enough to risk it.

Mont Ventoux!!! i'm not trying to kill him, the wife wouldn't speak to me again if i did.

i'm looking for something that covers around 50/60 miles a day for a week with some culture /geology to excite him a bit after his daily ride.

Typically though bigger guys will be more powerful though their power to weight ratio will be lower which makes them less good at hill climbing.

if their less good at getting the power down for hill climbing they're obviously inexperienced riders so it shouldn't affect the hub if you know how to climb???

So my advice based on that is if you're a big guy, don't expect to be able to gear it down that much… If you're similar weight to myself, you can probably get away with doing what TJ did and running a 22T up front if you so desire…

surely it's a power rather than a weight issue?
you might be a hefty chap but have weedy legs??

seen a report last week(can't remember where i saw it) and ford connect's were first on the list of unreliability so i'd do a bit of research on those first, otherwise they look ideal for the job.
maybe they live up to their moniker(sp)

i'm not tryin to put you off but i'm reviewing it from a outsiders point of view, you know how it is, nobody will ever admit they bought a dog of a bike/car/hub/etc.
all i'm saying is it's not for me so i'll stick with regular gears which i admit get clogged with mud and wear a lot quicker.

no the shifter worked fine but it was just really uncomfortable for me(i feel like i have rsi a day later in my thumb and wrist, which is why i was asking about rapidfire shifters), it was the hub itself that gave the cluncky feel and sound when changing gear ratio.

to me, i felt it was just a poormans rohloff, which i accept there is around a £1000 difference.

correct, he's using a nexus shifter

rode one yesterday on a fifty k loop on a scandal 29er borrowed from a mate and i thought it was awful, very clunky, having to back off the power loads when trying to climb and the gear ratio's weren't right for me.
i'll be sticking with a regular mech , casette, shifters, etc.

my mates bike has gripshift which i also found really uncomfortable, can you run a normal trigger shifter?

party it is then, i'll bring a nice bottle of sauvignon blanc.
every bivvy/camp ride i go on has to have wine so i'm not changing for this event.

We stayed near hondo on the other island which I can't remember the name of, malta's main island is very crowded but ours wasn't too busy. We had a nice relaxing time and learned to scuba with blue water scuba I think they were called.
The farmhouse we stayed in was huge and from the roof had 360 views and it's own pool
If you want anymore info pm me and I'll dig out our holiday details.

cue sheets are far better than marker boards, especially when your brother-in-law does an extra 9 miles because he blindly followed a dozen other muppets and didn't get the map or cue sheet out of his pockets all day.

If anyone else has a spare place I think anotherdeadhero (Andy L) would be interested.

it all depends on the wife, were either going to whistler for the last of the snow or she's riding round the cotswold's with me, depends if she wants the holiday more than an entry for HONC. only time will tell.

We were going to, but an old friend's stag-do may clash with WRT so I don't know. It was good to see the article in ST this month… Fame at last
    How about you?

I'm in, pink ticket booked already.
Shame you two won't be there, si & anthea won't be there either as anthea is up the spout!

when flying with easy jet just a fortnight ago i took my bike in a bag weighing 32.2kg and a hold bag weighing 13kg plus a piece of hand luggage.

    NO extra charges were paid.

    hope this helps

however the gorilla's at bristol airport ripped the bottom of my bag clean open, luckily i'd packed everything well and nothing dropped out. thanks to whoever that was. TWONK.

i'm not suggesting back protectors, helmets, padding, etc are skill compensators. as the vid i put up shows it wasn't the little lads fault, it was some other idiot that took him out. he had a helmet on and it potentially saved his life and i thought his skills were quite good for three days of riding a board.

Armour/helmets etc aren't just compensating your own dodgy riding/skiing

super twinkies are enormous as are the large gas tanks i'd suggest the mediums in both or you'll have the tendancy to over fill the bags and the bike will handle like a pig on rollerskates/pensioner on ice. delete as appropriate.

sorry stu i haven't ordered a frame bag yet as i'm waiting for a new bike so that will come next but i have ordered a seat pack, a bar harness/bag and a gas tank, these set me back about 180ish for the three pieces.
they should be here in time for WRT but by the time i get a new bike it'll be too late for may.
