second AlasdairMc, wild camp, even cheaper on a budget, leave your car somewhere and ride a mile down a fire road into a forest(even if you have too much stuff you can shuttle it on your bike) then camp up in said forest and have a peaceful time. it'll be so bloody dark in a forest that nobody'll find you and your bikes hidden behind a wall of trees.

technically i think i'll be penalising myself by changing to a bouncy ss only a matter of weeks before ssec10 rather than a tried and trusted hardtail ss which i've had for years

woolly hat and a set of dry clothes if it's raining, some beverage and some really unhealthy food.
unless you bivvy in a town centre you WILL NOT need a lock.
    that is all.

couple of alpkit airlok XTra's one on the bars and one under the top tube if you've got space, but this one cant be too full as it'll rub your legs.

no worries sturat, i've been given one overnight pass for easter but it'll have to be local as zoe is filling my diary rapidly with family stuff. i reckon i could do a bivy trip in the cotswolds somewhere during the easter break and she could stay at her parents.

had an 8 litre bag on last weekend for the trans cambrian and worked well.
two straps round bag to bars then one from the two straps around to the back of the stem/spacers to stop it bouncing.

well i'm slumming it in bristle and my social secretary (read wife) says i can do an overnight from Taylor towers but i aint foxtroting oscar to WRT land for the whole weekend. so you'll maybe have to count me out unless you fancy a trip down this neck of the woods.

whats the giant xtc like does it feel light, handle ok, does it stear like a barge ?

thinking of getting one instead of a xc 26er

not barge like in any way shape or form, i bloody loves it i do.
handles just like a 26er. would certainly recommend a test ride at the least.

got a giant xtc 29er 1 last month, full bike weighs 27 pounds as is, so plenty of scope to lighten it when monies are more available. rrp is £1400, i paid £1250

love mine but i'm bloody sick of it going back to the dealer under warranty.
nothing major, just lots of small niggly stuff like central locking, sunroof, 4×4 switch, airbag reprogramming, AC fan, parking sensors etc.

back in on tuesday, again. it was only in two weeks ago.

If there's a blockage due to a slower rider, just wait your turn

    terribly british.

it's a race for gods sake, do you think micheal schumacher won seven titles by waiting in line?

had that at bristol 12 a few years back, some tit got fairly near the front on the first stretch of singletrack and i was three riders back with the two in front of me making no attempt to pass so i dived the otherside of a tree and made those three places, boy, did he get stroppy, so i just told him to **** off and learn to ride faster. after that piece of singletrack is a long stretch of flat which i topped out on as i was on a singlespeed so he passed me grumbling something until the next open climb where i passed him with ease and smiled back at him a la lance to jan ullrich and i didn't see him again all lap.
it's a race, so long as you don't take somebody out or cheat any line is game and if everybody else wants to queue leave 'em to it.
