    As cynic-al says

For long distance use you’ll need a large first number (say 10)

The second number is the diameter (mm) of the ‘bottom’ lens. The bigger it is the more light you’ll capture, but the bigger they’ll be.10×50 would be probably be best for your use – but they won’t be small. 10×40 obviously smaller and should be okay

Naval binoculars are usually 12/15 (even 20) X 60/75 but they’ll be mahoooosive

He does it to (almost) everyone! (Though not Makwala – presumably keeping a good noro-virus distance away)

It is high mileage – a little smokey at full throttle.

It has been making a sort of ‘swooshing’ noise under heavy throttle – could be a sign of a split hose I guess (he says, hoping)

Hopefully RAC here soon, was told to expect a long wait. I guess I’m pretty low priority, being at home

Can’t see any damaged / popped off hoses, though not easy to see; cramp in the engine bay

    It is an imaginative solution.

But what about any other athletes quarantined? Will they be given the same opportunity if they’ve missed a heat?

If there are any with finals yet to be contested (I don’t know), I would expect that they would want the same treatment

Bacon roll at Swinley is £3.50. Pretty generous with the bacon mind

    Coffee is £2, I think

It is a visitor centre with captive market, so not too bad

Athlete (potential medalist in mens 400m) was ill. Symptoms suggest noro-virus which is doing the rounds

IAAF prevented him from competing – on grounds of public health (noro-virus contagious via various means)

Athlete turns up at stadium – refused access as pass revoked.

BBC pundits slaughter (poised and dignified) IAAF representative for preventing star from competing.

I was disappointed with Johnson – he’s an intelligent man who normally provides an honest but balanced view. Not tonight though.

    As Nick says.

I’ve Googled some pics – looks like a plain 1 1/8 headtube with traditional external cups to me. Which would be a no for tapered forks

gang up on poor Pam who I thought did well not to tell them all to f-off.

Yep, I thought she did really well to keep her composure and not throw the ‘what would you do in the same situation, being responsible for public health?’ question back at them.

Really poor from the BBC. Nothing learned from that remorseless questioning

I thought the lady did well, very composed and dignified. These people are damned if they do, damned if they don’t.

What was all that cr@p about giving the athlete a blood test so that it’ll be easier for him to get over. (I suspect Radcliffe isn’t the sharpest tool in the box!)

APF – you’re right, ‘I’m going to Chesterfield for a holiday’ isn’t a sentence I’ve aspired to utter.

But we just need somewhere in striking distance of the peaks for walking and cycling by day but which is also pleasant (enough) for a family evening out.

    Pub recommendations would help

Examples of British athletes who have served two bans and have then come back and got quicker as they got older please.
    Take your time.

Two bans – can’t think of any. But…

    Christie – suspect
    Chambers – cheat
    Ohuruogu – banned
Farah – ?. Questions. If he was Russian, the GB public would boo him

    Just sayin’

Bolt is still Bolt and supreme. Pathos of bronze will add to his legacy

If I’m riding trail centres then it’ll be with my twin boys (16 yo) as it’s what they like to do.

My preference is for riding longer routes on my local trails (Chilterns) with a coffee and cake / pub stop. As my boys aren’t in the slightest interested in this I’m flying solo.

If there are any other old, slow and technically inept riders around Stokenchurch then do shout. I’ll get the first round.

‘Break Out’ meetings – when what it really means is ‘let’s have another meeting with some different people as we’ve no clue how to do this and then it’ll be their fault’.
See also ‘Take that offline’, ‘Put that on the back burner’, ‘Let’s park that one’, etc

    Nice BS generator here:
    BS Generator

Used to work with a bloke who frequently ended a meeting with ‘let’s bust this dam!’, which was irritating.

Maybe its a development thing. I was brought up time trialling on a 13-17 block and a 42/52 chainset. I struggle to twiddle a little gear.

I’m exactly the same. Grew up doing short TTs (mainly 10s, the odd 25). I’ve no idea what my average cadence is but I’m sure I push larger gears than most up hills. It does mean I’m quite fast on the ups (especially on the fat bike which keeps traction) provided they’re not technical. However, my legs ‘go’ well before my aerobic capacity and when they’re gone – well they’re gone.

I’m trying to work on spinning better but it just isn’t my natural style

    Thanks all.

I’m thinking to just go with a new Rega, though I’ll trawl eBay to see if any bargains appear

My main issue will be persuading the wife to put two more speakers in the lounge (there are 5 B&W M1s and sub in there already). Might have to go the stealth route and use the M1s for a while

    Cheapest Miele

Advice I was given by a repair man 15 odd years ago was to buy the cheapest model from the best manufacturer

Bought a Miele and not looked back

It’s built like a tank – cast iron weight and so on

He also advised running a 95C wash once a week to keep it clean

I rarely ride on the road but had a short stint on the road today and was genuinely quite surprised by the amount of room I was given by all the cars that passed me. Made sure I gave some sign of thanks to each.

Must admit, I’m one who tends to ‘walk away’ from the p**s*ng contest threads

Nuance and tone is absent from these written threads (unless the author is a skilled writer) and it’s too easy to get pulled into a contest with someone

I had a recent thread which suffered from this. I got irritated because assumptions were made about my views (rather than people actually reading them) and, if I’m honest, made a comment I shouldn’t have (at aracer)

aracer – if you’re reading I’m referring to the ‘hard of thinking’ quip which I shouldn’t have made. Apologies to you. Mea culpa.
