I’d put a hefty batten up. As said above, easier to fine tune the position of hooks. You could also easily add other (smaller) hooks for hanging all sorts of other bits and pieces (helmets, hydration packs, etc).

Basically, once a batten is up, it becomes a 2 minute job to add more hooks

I was at Boots and had exactly the same experience. Had a look at Specsavers website and their range looks pretty good and surprisingly cheap. They also have an online ‘virtual try on’ using your webcam (no I’m not posting pics). I shall go at the weekend.

I’ve had a minor prescription for a few years and have worn (daily) contacts occasionally for cycling, cinema, etc. But I struggle to wear them all day. My prescription is now such that I’ll need glasses for driving and so on but I’ll continue to wear contacts for cycling

    giantalkali – thanks

Think you nailed it there. I was just left to choose from a range of several hundred frames and just didn’t know where to start. I tried on loads but it would have been helpful just to have someone to say ‘those are too wide’, ‘those obscure your eyebrows’, etc

I’ll try somewhere else this weekend and take the Mrs – not to choose (as seemed to be assumed above), but to offer a second opinion and ensure I don’t buy some clown glasses

My lad has a Five and though I don’t enjoy riding it (not least ‘cos of the noise), it is pretty bombproof

I’ve used contacts before. Never really nailed them – and I won’t wear them daily. Probably the solution for sport though

I’d go with project’s idea of cutting a slot half way down each piece

You could cut several slots in different positions which would allow you to arrange it differently depending on need. We have cardboard inserts for packing boxes at work that use this method and they’re very adaptable

We were camping close to Weymouth a few weeks ago and there was a Red Arrow display pretty much above us with a few (fairly) low level passes. Even a small jet (Gnat?) rattles your bones and just gives a feeling of huge power. Lord knows what a really big and powerful aircraft feels like.

On a separate note, many years ago, whilst near Machyll Machunll in mid/north Wales a Tornado came down the valley below us. Incredible

I’ve just been out on the Ridgeway on the section either side of the M40 which is one of the flatter areas. Did 20 miles and averaged just over 11 mph so hats off to molgrips. 180 miles is a **** of a long way

Lovely day for it mind (maybe just a bit warm) and the Ridgeway was in very fine condition

Mmm, I love a lot of Badger ales.

I’m likely to be on the Ridgeway tomorrow (keeping an eye out for molgrips) and then at Swinley on Sunday

    Btw, great snap, snaps

I rather like this, and would make a decent jersey (though logo T-shirts aren’t really my thing)

I’ll certainly be having some beer tonight. I’ll grab a couple of these if the supermarket has any.

Somehow, it seems a faster plan when written as above

If I did Goring to M40 in 75 minutes* I’d be in no shape to go any further

    (* I can’t)

You should be able to get a powerlink (or equiv) for about £5 – maybe the KMC one?

Molgrips – what times do you expect to be crossing the M40

I’m only 2 miles from there and might be out in the bike. Happy to give some encouragement especially on your return leg

    Valve caps?

I lose them the first time I take them off – whether Presta or Schrader.

There’s no caps on any of my bikes nor, indeed, my car

You can pick up something like an ESP8266 for a couple of quid, program it via the Arduino IDE

FYI, Atom with PlatformIO is a much better dev environment vs Arduino IDE.
IMO having used both (and now firmly in the Atom/PlatformIO camp).

    What language is that?

Look, I’m not really GBBO target audience, but I would happily watch the old BBC ones.

This one though, well, beige is a good description. I just didn’t really care about any of it. Seemed to lack energy without Mel & Sue. And there’s just no charm to Fielding, Leith or Toksvig.

I said to the Mrs – I’ll give it three series on C4.

11 rooms, 6 bikes in the house.

But if you count the shed as a room it becomes 12 rooms to 10 bikes
