little washer missing between cassette and freehub ? I had to fit one when going from road 11sp to mtb 11sp (ultegra to XT). Fit before the cassette.

So glad I’m not a close minded idiot though.

    Gosh, that’s quite strong.

Ah, I see where you live. That’s almost a compliment, then…

Lie on your front and do some bum cheek squeezing. You may get some reciprocal recovery. Or a reprimand, depends where you work, really…

Hang on, haven’t we just done this with wheel sizes ?

My Diverge came with 32mm, the test ride convinced me to buy it ! As CFH implies, maybe it’s not for you…

The rear is probably 120mm spacing so you’ll need to pick up a second hand one or ‘cold set’ the spacing (i.e. give it a bit of brutal pulling apart).
    I’m surprised it’s indexed. That’s probably a later add-on.
All the other bits are replaceable.
Those old Raleigh bikes have a nice ride – I’ve got 3 (slightly higher spec) ones from the early 80s and the best one is faster than my carbon bike…

Thanks, bb. Are they up to light rocky ?

It’s not too bad on my Diverge which has a road(ish) chainline but on my mate’s CdF it’s rubbish as the frame would accommodate much larger tyres (which he had purchased…)

P-clips onto the seat stays. Amazing how well it works. Had them on my Zaskar for years when it had to be a commuter by week-day…

A roadlink has just popped through my letter box, together with an 11-40 (and a chain). Looking forward to fitting it.

    Diverge / Nano update.

The tubed nanos pump up to 38mm width, just fit. Tubeless ones come up to 42mm, don’t fit.

Mate with CdF also has same problem (limiting factor being these stupid new long arm front mechs).

How about taping the area during rides ? No direct experience, but I can imagine it might work.

john_l has it. Back in the day, 517s would come apart because of folk doing this.

Jam bo, thanks for the link. May try to replace the power supply…

So if he is telling the truth, and we will be at the back of the queue, then it’s a good thing. The NHS sell off may be able to be stopped once the Tory’s (sic) are removed.

You think those nice tories will not continue the sell-off if we Brexit and it’s all the Americans forcing us to ? Oh dear…

I’m squeezing 40c nanos into my Diverge. 3mm clearance each side, what could possibly go wrong…

    back pedal rear brake ?

With a rear disc and a 3 speed, that would be perfect for around here (Milton Keynes).

you can build a harsh or comfy bike out of any material, it’s the design and specifics that make it what it is, not the intrinsic material.

Sort of. My reading is that a .7/.4/.7 steel tube is not the same material as a .8/.5/.8 steel tube, but I totally accept that your reading my be different but just as valid. I have 4 steel bikes. 3 plane, 1 doesn’t.

And they say a carbon Diverge planes, which is obviously a different material. I’d like to know their view of a smartweld Diverge.

My personal experience is that frame material per se is overplayed as a factor

Hmm yes and no. These guys think it’s very important[/url].

    FWIW I agree with them.

Mrs flap_jack has a Ruby. I have a Diverge. Both carbon, superficially they look similar. The Diverge has much more ‘heft’ about it though, which I hope means it’s stronger.

Mrs flap has done light off-road on the Ruby and found it fine, and it flies on-road.

You can’t attach racks to either.

Finally, why wouldn’t you want a smart-weld aluminum Diverge? You can attach rack/luggage to that…

Average car-count on The National Byway® route is 2 cars per mile while travelling at an average of 10mph

I see fewer cars than that on my sunday road ride (30 mile loop) so it is possible.

This. Open Pros on your favourite hub.

40 nanos measure as 38mm at 50 psi IME.

somewhere South of Nottingham but North of Oxford with strong transport links to Birmingham/London

Milton Keynes. 30 mins to London, 45 to Brum. Great riding at Woburn, lots of good roadie stuff too. Huge parks. Loads of pubs, restaurants etc. Plenty of work. We’re never moving out.

If you don’t fancy being in the city itself, loads of nice villages nearby (Woburn Sands etc). But then you lose the high speed train links.

    Thanks all the info.

I have two things I want to do (gravel Wales CTC and L’Eroica) and was hoping to do both with a single solution but I think the requirements are too diverse. SO I’ll be doing alpidura for the gravel bike and possibly carradice with a Nitto rando rack on the vintage bike. Irony is, new L’Eroica course just announced is 41% ‘gravel’.

Cool, its worh the taxi ride back or organising to leave a car.

Ride back from Samoens to Les Gets is easy…unless you go via Morzine.

To repeat myself, find a physio who will acupunture it. I used Paul Joyce in Milton Keynes.

Most of the bikes are not actually IN Morzine during the day. On a nice day the lido is fab and there’s great walking in the valley. Samoens is a bit quiet IMO.
