oooh, what's on on saturday – I love the long course 'cos you can really nail those downhill corners through the car park and crucify those on TT bikes

Last year I saw a load of signs in the Vallorcine valley with pics of little bikes, saying something about Swiss MTB club routes. Anyone know anything about them ?

If you're riding in the Cham valley you've got to be prepared to ride a lot of uphill.

A good ride in July which might be less busy is alongside the railway line from Le Buet to the bottom of the Vallorcine valley – truly terrifying in places – narrow, steep, slippery rock and if you cock up you fall 50feet onto an electrified train line.

I think in a bike forum you'll find that resting heart rate is quite high. Do some more training, fatso.

actually much better than I expected – they pushed the rules and seemed to enjoy winding up Alistair Stewart

Listening on radio, not watching. Brown sounds better than Clegg if you can't see them. Clegg is fumbling. Shame, as I'm an LD supporter.

Dave, you can't get helicopters overnight, 3-5 years lead time. mind you, they should have been ordered in 2001

oh well done, Gordon. That Nimrod refuelling disaster was an urgent op request. It should have been funded in 2002

I've seen lots of this stuff too recently – I clear it when I see it. But I feel like I'm fighting a losing battle.

I'm sure they want to injure us, it's the way that small minded tories think.

Milton Keynes. 250 miles of proper cycleways. Great off-road nearby at Woburn. Great road riding nearby out to the west. Great LBS (Phil Corleys). Great clubs. Until my workplace was relocated to Luton (grr) I didn't need a car.

    Pointe de Mossettes to Montriond.

    Brevant to Tre-le-Champs

    Col de Balme to Trient.

Nothing in the UK matches this sort of thing…

yep, I paid £72 excess weight last year (at Luton). £9 a kilo.

I'm driving this year, in a bl00dy great big old Merc estate. I'm taking EVERYTHING !

oldgit, Yes, if you look at the start there's a little title sign high in the trees. Startlingly narrow in places, as my bruised shoulder will testify.

Juiced, just turn up and find someone to go round with – that's how I was shown few trails, then I knew what to look out for. Or, going into Phil Corley's and finding out when they're going out is another option (if you're fit enough !)

There's tons of riding, hours of singletrack once you find it. Don't forget Stocky Park – there's also a couple of good loops signposted in there..

and the 'extras' appearing on the Brickhills side too.

Had to do quite a bit of branch clearing yesterday though, the no-fun brigade have been out and no-cycling signs are appearing everywhere – nicely indicating the best riding !

I noted last year that on the tour most riders no longer bother with the HRM chest straps. Power metering is where it's at.

yep, the descent off the Joux Verte on a road bike (and inherent lack of brakes) knocks spots off most of the pre-prepared off road runs.

    Even got a 'Chapeau !' from a Frenchie when I did it…
