old material (pre 2000) much better than the new stuff IMO

IMO 17 frame will be good up to nearly 6 foot. He may not (to his horror) grow out of it. I’ve got a 19 at 6foot3, my mate’s OK on his 19 at 6foot5.

Also, putting a platform shock on it transforms it – your’s isn’t original anyway, they came with coil-overs in 98.

I still ride mine. It now has a 130 Rev up front, 203/185 discs (discs fit a 99 swing arm – you have a 98).

The new fork gives it a head angle of 67 degrees according to iphone clinometer which is much safer than stock. Slackens the seat angle though, so now have an inline post which fixes nicely.

It’s survived 5 PassPortes du Soleil, a Tour de Mont Blanc, 10 other Morzine and 4 other Chamonix trips, an Enduro6 and countlesss other UK rides.

I can still keep up with my mates and their wonder bikes so I’ll be keeping it.

IME there’s little anyone can do on an Orange 5, say, that I can’t stay with – if they get away it’s their skill level, not the bike…

Sadly for Noel, this track would be even better with a certain Liam doing the vocals…

I’m not saying close it, I’m saying don’t spend ‘taxpayer’ money on it. I’m old and Reithian. It may fulfill the third criterium but is so wrong on the first two.

    wrong on so many levels.

rounds held in morally dubious countries.
glorification of squandering of limited natural resources.
white supremicist attitude (loads of dissing Hamilton in favour of the nice middle class white boy with the stupid name).
everyone jetting in and out – carbon footprint must be incalculably large.
    women used for decoration.

    that’ll do for starters…

PPdS event insurance works. My mate helicoptered off on the sunday this year near the col de chesery, sorted out at Thonon.

    All FOC.

have you heard that Philip Blond’s voice. Sounds like a nonce. Then you listen to the content and you know it for sure. Surprised he’s not a catholic priest.

Had flat roof fixed last week, so been sawing rotten wood and burning in wood burning stove. All day. Most satisfying. Mind you, it’s about 7000 degrees C in here now :D

So, on a website whose original purpose was to get folk riding together, there’s a large contingent of loners. Most by choice. I’m really not sure if there are any conclusions to draw from it.

For me I like reading other folk’s posts about their adventures, whether group or solo, and it doesn’t matter whether I’ve been out on my own, or with a group, or (like today) stayed at home and had a massive fire…

“Anyone in Chamonix fancy some night riding? It does feel slightly, umm, committing going out solo night riding on empty trails in the Alps!”

Would love to, just small problem of being 750 miles away.

Didn’t get my Chamonix fix this year due to house renovations, say hello to the rooty climb out of Argentiere alongside the railway for me !

I’ve turned back a couple of times in the Alps, and got well lost in the days before GPS or phones.

But hooning into Les Linderets at 8pm with not a soul about is transcendental…

Cycle Active review was good, but warned of toes hitting front wheel. Why do they make frames like that ?

    Ah, that’s racing.

160 at the MK bowl during a duathlon was entertaing, especially as there was supposed to be no drafting.

But during racing you’re really riding on your own…

Maybe I should have said ‘prefer what a cafetiere makes’. looking back, it looks a bit insulting.

    No offence intended.

Nick raises a good point, in that if you can’t tell the difference between what cafetiere makes and what a high pressure system makes, then get a cafetiere.

IMO both make excellent drinks, but they are very different.

The Pavoni is no more hassle than any high pressure machine, and a load quieter at 6 am. But as you’ll be grinding the coffee fresh, the slight reduction in noise from the maker will be inconsequential :D

nor can I. I have nightmares about stems punching their way into my chest cavity.

When the post failed I didn’t have my hands on the bars – leaning back and taking a breather – so I dropped like a sack of cement…

I imagine you know this, but just in case…

MIB are based in MK. There are several keen cyclists there, if it turns out the driver was uninsured you may get a sympathetic hearing.

Conti Gator skins. 12 of us rode to Rome last year. The 6 of us running gator skins had no punctures at all. The others all had multiple punctures.

Mrs flap_jack was told she could never run after hers. She runs more now than she did before, and actually believes it makes her back stronger.

    Does LOTS of Pilates though.

Biking only or hill walking too ? The mountain marathon at Chamonix is superb. Ordinary folk do the 1/2 and walk it.

Only prob is it tends to be the same weekend as the PPdS.
