my laptop could play youtube through the telly

That’s what shocked me about the Sonos system I saw was it’s apparent prevention of what seemed like ordinary connectivity. If you’ve not got a fancy box in the way I guess you can do anything (guessing though – I don’t have a modern telly yet).

    Good luck.

Ride with the sun behind, so that car drivers can see you.

Flashing lights a big no-no IMO, makes it v difficult for car drivers to gauge your position.

Nice (walking) GR5 book published by Ciccone. Someone on here’s done it

Woburn mostly OK. Hardly rained at all in MK today.

Spent yesterday evening at a Sonos equipped house.

We came up against its limits (for me at least) in that it wouldn’t play from youtube, or anything else that it didn’t ‘know’, wheras from my simple pc plugged into hifi approach I can listen to anything. Hopefully the TV centered hub thing would retain this flexibility.

I know this is horrible from an audio point of view, but sound quality is largely irrelevant in my case, due to playing guitar in punk bands and tearing round on noisy motorbikes in my youth…

Don’t Chris Carmichael’s training schemes involve, ahem, ‘supplements’ that allow ‘improved’ recovery ?

I would be nervous of following one of his plans without ‘support’…

And I’ve found another, with different fees.
    Confused now.
Does it get updated through the year ?

    edit

Found the 2011 one. So came back to delete thread.

Can’t work out how to do that so sorry if you’ve clicked onto it.

road ride, 35 mile loop in the golden triangle. And the ham bone, leek and potato soup I’ve just prepared (and on the hob at minimum temperature) as recovery meal.

Loads here. Despite virtually everyone on our road (and us) having yappy dogs. Few cats though.

I tend to find the faster I get on the road bike the slower I get on the MTB (well, what I mean is that I lose the absolute ultra grunt you need to get over a big step or similar).
Hope it doesn’t affect you similarly…

No chance of an early night here. More fireworks in MK on NYE than on bonfire night. And the bell ringers give it loads from 1145 to about 0030. Bedroom is about 50 yards from belfry with direct line of sight !
    Actually all rather pleasant.

MSP, I agree – as a performance indicator. Not as a training method.

Of course, if the aim is to lose weight, don’t buy anything for the bike. A good set of kitchen scales and good bathroom scales are what you need. Keep decreasing what the first one says until the second one decreases…and if you’re keen on fat measurement, don’t bother with the fat scales, get some calipers.

I find having all the data in front of me very entertaining whilst on the road bike. I got a power meter too.

But I think the key measurement is how long it takes to get around the same loop. If it’s less time then you’re improving. So really all you need is a watch, and a loop that’s interesting enough that you don’t mind doing it over and over again. Mine’s 35 miles though rolling countryside and I like watching how the seasons change it. And change me. And if I’m training for a sportive, well, two laps.

    Enjoy !

You’re clearly more aware of where your head is than I am. Long may your luck or skill hold out. Sadly I have appear to have neither, and nearly 50 years of riding doesn’t seem to have helped.
I remember this exact same argument in the motorcycle fraternity when I first started riding – indeed, I was taught without a helmet – but really no one questions that now, and I think the cycle helmet thing will go the same way, with hopefully a similar quantum leap in protection and comfort.

That may have sounded insulting, wasn’t really meant to be, but I’m curious and amazed. Maybe I’m totally crap because I trash helmets frequently…and I really only ride XC.

What sort of riding does TJ actually do such that he’s never hit his head hard in all that time ? Anything that could be described as mountain biking ?

On two of my Sumos, the bond between the clamp and the post has gone so the saddle can rotate – and creak. To be fair, USE fixed that FOC

+1. Except they didn’t fix mine. Nearly £100 down the drain after 13 months. Grr.

I wish someone else made suspension seatposts, or that USE would licence a decent mount from someone else.

I am still carrying 2 injuries from the summer when the last one broke. Including a knee injury that prevents me running. As you can probably tell, I am mighty peed off with USE.

Crikey, that’s nothing. Got about 4″ of spacers on my hardtail. Bikes just aren’t made for tall folk.

    Gator Skins.

Charity ride Luton to Rome last year, 100+ miles a day over some very dodgy backroads.

No-one with Gator Skins got a puncture. Everyone else did.

Rear worn out after 1250 miles though…

    indeed, ‘in’ Milton Keynes.

Great cycling easily accessible. No irony from that point of view.

I like it here, but I must admit, it wouldn’t be your cup of tea if you liked traditional English villages.

There’s always a huge turnout for stuff in the town. Police estimate 160,000 come out for the bonfire night fireworks, so 60,000 possibly conservative…

    Cymcarn for sure.

I believe there’s one at Glycorrwg.

In both cases you can come back down the XC route, which is totally rollable at Afan, and hardly any pedalling at Cymcarn.

Good Luck – I’ve only just read about your health stuff recently, I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re at the leading edge of something that may hit a lot of us in the next few years if that article about right ventricle being damaged through endurance events is true.

I’ll admit to drinking mild (when I can find it).

But this debate really finished years ago with that fantastic Prescott quip about keeping his coal in his bidet.

Maybe I’m more aerodynamic with those fat kilos :-) Power to weight ain’t everything – although if you think it is, then by placebo effect you’ll do better…
