thanks for the offer, but the ride to shops etc is 3 or 4 miles each way. I was hoping for something like the shimanos, but clearly this isn’t it. Clattering around the supermarket will continue…

IMO Riverford very good, but I don’t think they do Scotland yet. They are edging northwards though.

    Anyone for reggae ?
    4 teas for 2.
I still got a bike wash token in my wallet as a keepsake to remind me of the days when that was the only pre-drive home shower !

    For cycling, Milton Keynes.

Traffic free cycleways everywhere in the town so you can get anywhere you want safely.

Tons of singletrack on your doorstep at Woburn.

    Toppest bikeshop at Phil Corley’s.

Great racing and roadie scene too.

You did say best for cycling, not architectural beauty, didn’t you…

If you’re really keen, the British National Formulary tells everything that’s known. In some cases gives alternatives too.

6’2″ and ‘broad shouldered’ too. XL fits OK, a bit baggy round the waist, but they all tend to be to get the shoulder width. It’s a bit boil in the bag though, nothing like as breathable as I expected.

270w avg power output, what system you using

    something rather inaccurate I suspect.

Polar 725 guitar pick-up thingy. I do calibrate it regularly against my Tacx Flow, and mess about with the chain weight and length parameters until I get a similar reading over 30 minutes, using different brake settings / gears etc. Of course, I have no idea how accurate the Flow is so it might all be nonsense, but it does keep me entertained.

having a crossroads in the middle of the roller coaster is going to end in tears soon. Nearly T boned someone on a Bionicon last week, whilst I was on the ‘conventional’ route…I’m 17st and on a Zaskar – you don’t want to be hit by me at full chat !

    My route is:

Out of MK on the Calverton Lane, then

    Upper, Middle, Lower Weald.
    Passenham
    Deanshanger
    Wicken
    Wicken Toys
    Lillingstone Lovell
    little bit on A413, sorry
    Bycell Road then right to
    Chackmore
    Radclive
    Gawcott
    Padbury
    Thornborough
    Nash
    Whadden
and so back to the start.

You might find some of that entertaining, very minor roads so doesn’t suit a big group.

how many people do you know who’s job involves proper hard graft.

Dead right. We had a builder round for a few days recently. Trying to keep up with him absolutely exhausted me.

venture a little further north. really quiet in the triangle bounded by the A421, A422 and MK V4, but not too twisty. Can average over 20mph on a good day (obviously not for 120 miles though).

In the 1930s my uncle rode for Charlotteville CC. I have the 12hour cup for 1937 in front of me now. 216 miles on a fixed.

Best part is that he had to retire from the 1936 with toothache. Next day he went to a dentist and has ALL HIS TEETH PULLED OUT so that it wouldn’t happen again.

    Uncle Jim was hard as…

If I do a spin class I take little notice of the instructor and use it as an interval session. Easy if you hide at the back.

I infer then that your flow doesn’t drift. Interesting.

I’m assuming that a powertap is accurate, so 10% isn’t bad.

Cutting things out of your diet might work but you’d be better off finding out exactly what it is as removing dairy, wheat, rice, yeast and all the other potential options leaves you with little left to choose from

Cutting grains and dairy only leaves you all fruit, vegetables, nuts, meats, fish, poultry and seafood. Not much to base a healthy diet on ? Tons of good healthy tasty choice.

Mrs flap getting good results with the Merrill barefoots. Too narrow for me sadly. Those look narrow too (I have a square ended foot) 🙁

DO those Giant guards need threaded stay holes ? Looks like it from the pics.

As for race guards, works fine on bikes with straight stays but mine are very curvy (CAAD4) and so in wrong place.

Real world experience – cut the grains from your life. Cured me of eczema and hay fever.

Tough though, no bread/rice/porridge/cake/beer etc. Having hands that don’t look like I’ve put them through a thorn bush all the time in winter, and losing the permanent nose drip in the summer is worth it.

No science to back it up though.

Mrs flap just taken up tin whistle. I shall have to dust off the guitar and relearn the Pogues classics…

Crud 2’s here. I’m going to take them off, the clearance is so tight that as soon as you ride over anything that sticks to your tyres it’s rub rub rub. I’m sure some folk would be all right with it but not me. I spent ages ‘centering’ them today to try to alleviate it.

Race guards don’t work either if you’ve got curvy stays, they don’t stay put.

    SO that’s about £70 wasted.

Back to the wet bum. However, I always ride on my own so I suppose I should MTFU.

didn’t work for me at all, but I have a bad astigmatism which needs weighted lenses, and they moved about causing depth perception problems. No probs with dirt etc behind clear specs.

Paleo diet seems to lose weight and improve fitness with little or no exercise.
