Houns, mebbie I weighs a bit more than you. I sinks.

I wonder if the Bike Chain would let me have it for a weekend, especially as I have no intention of buying one…

    Has it survived ?

Ex-caukhead here, and I still care about the old place. My parents 40th wedding anniversary do was held at the Castle.

Thinking about it, most of the icons of my youth have vanished.
Shanklin Pier (played our first gig there)
    Ponda Rosa
    Sandrock Hotel
Newport Hall (played our best gig there)
    Go-kart Track
    Shanklin Bus station
    ZANIES !
    La Babalu
    Eastcliff Bars
    Blackgang Chine (well, nearly gone)
    British Hovercraft
And every time I go back to Shanklin it seems the oneway system has changed. And don’t get me started about Newport…

    Just use your normal bike

you just sink. I grew up on the Isle of Wight, and I’ve tried (and on a motorbike too, with equally little success).

Ultimately very good IMO. Especially for free.

Don’t forget, always wear a peak on your helmet. Was it Barrie Clark or Nick Craig who would turn up at TTs in their MTB kit and leather all the stiffbacks with their aero kit…

50’s better. You become totally invisible. If you are noticed, folk just think ‘that old bloke looks harmless’. It’s brilliant.

Burr grinders don’t generate heat. So, you don’t lose all those lovely volatile aromas.
IMO you should spend more on the grinder than on the coffee machine, it makes more difference to the flavour. A cheap 15 bar machine makes as good coffee as an expensive one.

I have an Ascaso. Messy, and took ages to set up, but now delivers the perfect grind.

the little green guide book is pretty good.

don’t expect to get the kind of lift service you get in Morzine, you’ll have to work for your height.

cut the grains, get your carbs from roots. If that Alice Roberts program was right then that’s what we evolved eating.

Since I did this my eczema has gone away and my aerobic threshold has increased by 10 bpm, and by 30 watts.

on of the classic old ‘indestructible’ diesel Merc estates – that’s into the garage about once a month!

    love it though…

did it in ’98 on a Zaskar with 70mm forks and 1.9 tyres. Would do the same again now.

however, if you’re overheating on climbs with a helmet on you’re probably not fit enough to take this on.

In the late ’90s they used to play reggae all the time in the steamy old cafe. I have one of the old jetwash tokens in my wallet to remember the place by.

Went back in 2007 after the rebrand of the trails and the opening of the new cafe. I won’t go again, the changes weren’t to my taste.

Riverford[/url] do the best IMO. Expensive though.

Costco not bad either, and you get a massive (400g) bag for £2 from them.

That’s the odd thing, the live streamer works fine, but listen again doesn’t. Everything works OK on wife’s new iphone but she tends to be using that…

    Another pair of eyes here.

This is bad news. How were yours secured ? – be interesting to know to what they are using to take them. Mine attached by hardened steel chain to ground anchor, is that enough ?

grew up pretty much ‘off grid’ on the Isle of Wight. Bored bored bored. So now live in the heart of the biggest new town (Milton Keynes) and love the futuristic modernity, and that it’s 30 minutes to central London.

And the types of riding I love are on my doorstep (endless tight cheeky singletrack at Woburn for MTB, relentless hammering through rolling countryside of Aylesbury vale for road).

    TJ,

I used 1.3s for commuting on my MTB and got less than 1k out of the rear. 85psi.

Put 1.6s on and they were slow as hell (80psi) – used to use Conti Avenue 1.7 in late 1990s which were really fast (but didn’t grip or wear) but they’ve not made them for years. Speed is important because when I do ride it’s quite a long way.

Resorted to the tapes in the tyres to prevent punctures, but oddly on my racing bike Conti Gator Skins seem nearly indestructible. Can’t understand why tyres from the same manufacturer would be so different as the intended use is very similar.

OP – if you’re going in June most of the lifts won’t be open so you’ll need something you can pedal unless you want to spend all your time on just the Pleney and Chevannes.

IMO stick with what you’ve got, get some DH High Rollers and do some fitness training.

Hmm, I’ve found the sport contact tyres to be very draggy, wear quickly, and not very puncture proof. But then I ride with big loads (see above – total all up weight including rider about 140kg)

I use the Thorn carrier and Carradice panniers, which I very much like. These don’t get used for touring but for shopping,
e.g. last night 6 miles with
    15 bottles of beer,
    3 litres apple juice,
    3kg of various meat,
    3kg various frozen berries,
    1kg coffee
in the panniers and 12.5kg of birdfood strapped across the top. Been doing this for years and the kit is putting up fine with it.

embers do a nice looking pair. I’ve only got some of their tops, but I really like them.
