Oooh, very interesting. Which frame was that, and where was it tightest ?
On the carbon, my calipers show 45mm on the rear fork, I’d be happy with just a couple of mm clearance (heli-taped, of course). I was thinking of getting a WTB nano to try…

Anyone stuck any wide tyres on ? I want to run mine on some medium off-road, thinking of Cross Boss or even wider…

I’ve just got one of the new MacBooks – the silly light and thin one. It’s amazing.

Mrs flap_jack has just bought one. It allows her to carry a laptop in a smallish bag. Don’t like the silly peripherals arrangement though (you have to buy a funny dongle to connect USB)…

Can you bar mount an Etrex?

yes but IME it kills them. Have to take to bits and push stuff back together. Edge seems to put up with it.

How does it fare on the road ?

I have a 2 hour road loop that I do on a sunday morning. I’m an old fat bloke so I’m quite slow, and I ride on my own so there’s no drafting to skew things. This year I’ve been averaging low 17mph regularly on my (quite nice – CAAD4 / ultegra /dura-ace) old racing bike. First ride on the Diverge 18.2 mph. I still can’t quite believe just how well it rolls, and the cornering is insane (I have one corner which I always try to hammer, previous mid corner max according to strava 27mph, Diverge 30 mph).

    I like…

How does that front guard attach to the fork at the bridge ? The only hole I can see on mine is in the middle facing the tyre. Is that threaded ?

They do look great. Personally, I’m waiting for summer before fitting pretty tyres…

If you find a 120mm full suspension whilst you’re looking, please tell. It’s got to have 135mm rear spacing and take 1 1/8 steerer too…

£400 when the left bulb on our Mk4 Golf went a few years back. Ours is one of the few with Xenons. Total PITA to set the dip when you go abroad too (bumper off etc).

It’s more just the lack of any character or anything going on I don’t like

Character I can’t help with (that’s a taste thing), but blimey there’s loads going on.

e.g. the drum clash last weekend…

that’s why we’re here – mrs flap_jack and I want to live a ‘cycling’ life and I don’t think it would be possible anywhere else in the country, or at least as safe and easy.

as for the consumerism, we hardly use the city centre, but if we need stuff we’re glad it’s there.

    MK itself is horrid.

One of the great things about living here, it’s totally marmite ! I (and many others) love it, others hate it, nobody’s indifferent.

in Milton Keynes of all places

MK’s ace. Great riding here, you just need to know where. If you’re at National Rail, say, there’s singletrack a mile from your desk.

However, I’m not out due to a head cold and resultant lethargy. Grr. Very annoying, as the wind is in a Straverly direction.

    it’s functionality overlap for me

You need to more tightly define your functions. I have 5 road bikes that to the untrained eye do exactly the same thing. To me they have 5 discrete and non-overlapping uses…

downshep – on re-reading I kinda agree with that.

Today, whilst changing pads I noticed my Thorn’s rear rim was blown – a pad through a rim is unmanageable whereas fade you can look for a good bail point and cycle front to rear braking whilst looking !

The CTC beef was with short steep ones e.g. into Lynmouth. No choice but to drag on 25% !

I’m surprised how many can’t hear bells. I’m bang in the middle of milton keynes and the bells go all night !

    Two reasons really.

Overheating when drag braking on long descents with resultant fade when you need the braking at the bottom of the hill (Robin Thorn has a good rant about this too on his website, especially for tandems).

Also, lack of comfort at the front because forks have to be made stronger.

    It’s in the latest magazine.

My experience is that the discs which work so well off-road in Morzine can fade on the long fast road descent from Avoriaz. I am ‘big-boned’, though.

cheekyboy, it was on world service a few weeks back. Interestingly, Lord Carrington agreed. I don’t always agree with Fraser Nelson but I think he’s on the money about Osborne.

our macbook was stuck at ’25 mins to go’ for about 2 hours. It got there in the end.

    😥

Heard him on the radio only a few weeks ago, talking about the 1945 landslide. He said that a large part of the reason was that the electorate thought the tories were a load of traitors for trying to appease before the war so (Churchill aside) they weren’t to be trusted. Seeing what Osborne’s up to in China at the moment, things haven’t changed much.

    Another Carradice Nelson lover here.

If you get the bagman attachment (which is pretty much essential) take time to disassemble the locking bolts and super-glue in the little levers. Or carry lots of tie-wraps.

Without exception every male doctor I’ve spoken with can not deal with me disagreeing with them or indeed having an opinion.

Cinnamon Girl, it’s the same for blokes ! I make every effort to see female doctors as they are always better.

2015 so exactly like captain flash’s. Sort of grey but with the slightest hint of brown. Put like that, sounds not very nice, but it is !

Thank you to Nick at Leisure Lakes Daventry who made the process very enjoyable. He earned whatever commission he got.
