Hope Tech 3 E4’s best Hope brakes I have had. I have had the Race Evo M4’s and X2’s, nice and light, but the Tech 3 E4’s are just that bit better, mainly because of the superb lever adjustment. Only £240 from Rush cycles for a set > http://www.rushcycles.co.uk/m2b7s529p4749/HOPE-Tech3-E4-Standard-Hose-brakes-Front-and-Rear-2014 😉

    Nice bike Five.
fivespot – I will second the comment about loveliness. I’m not normally a fan of old bikes but I do like that one
Love the trials bike five spot , that’s excellent.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

The next one will be far more trick, with CNC’d alloy bits and a sprinckling of Ti 8)

    3 Q’s.

    1. What is it?
    2. How much would it cost?
    3. Is it/could it be road legal?

1)Its a Triumph Tiger Cub (199cc) in Trials trim.
2)One like this would be anywhere from £2,500 to £4,000
3)Yes it could be made road legal

Just fitted Kinesis Strut R750 to my bike the other day. Product description said 167g, put them on the digital kitchen scales and they were bob-on 167g. Only tried them once, but they felt fine, very stiff given the light weight. They have less of a back sweep than my carbon Havocs though.

I took Brians old Nicolai AM out yesterday for a spin. Mixed emotions, privilaged to be the owner of his last Nicolai, but saddened that such well liked and pationate guy should lose his life so early.

Heres his old Nic AM in his favourite shade of dried mud.

there’s a visible gap (maybe 2mm) at the back between the rubber flange on the crown race and the bottom cup.

Front looks fine but I can actually see the steerer and bearings through the gap.

Is it fitted the right way round ? 😕 🙂

Had mine nearly 2 years, with 160 Devilles, then 150 Revelation Teams, now with 150 Pikes. With the 150 Pikes it is spot-on (Better than the Devilles), still slack enough, but handles twistier stuff great. I have had many frames costing twice the price, but this one puts the biggest grin on my face 😀

Oh! and an RP23 rear shock helps too 😉

Alcohol and ebay are great if your selling. I get most of the items I put on auction to end late on a Sunday evening. Lots of ‘Keyboarding under the influence of alcohol’ instances to bump prices up 😀

Try with all 3 in, if the lip of the seal is making contact with bearing housing, leave them in. If it doesn’t touch, remove 1 at a time and so on. I usualy end up with 2 in mine, and if need be, if the seal/housing wears over time, remove another 😉

Bulb fron 20mm adapters are different widths, unlike Pro2 variants which are identical. I can’t remember how much difference there was, but you will easliy see by eye.

They stopped making. them before 15mm front axles came along I think. However it may be possible to machine the std. QR axle out to accept a 15mm axle, as its outer diameter is 20mm.

Taken from a headset thread a few days ago “My NP headset lasted 3 months, crap bearings and seals. The replacement Hope one is still perfect 18 months on.”

Stainless bearings, great seals, split crown race for easy fitting/removal.

I just bought another pair for my Nicolai last week. I had to shope around to get the top and bottom I wanted. Rutland and Winstanleys, about £26 each posted 😉

your power link will be just as worn as the rest of your chain, bin it. Anyway, SRAM chains come with new links.

Contrary to what some folk will tell you, SRAM power links can be reused many many times. mine get split nearly every week to clean the chain, and they click back together like they were new.

Devron…..only at 170 degrees. 120 is fine. It maybe because I machined down the inner filter ring on my lathe to bring the Sony filter as close as possible to the camera. Also, the Sony filter steps up in dia. from its mounting thread, which should help. I hope that lot made sense 😕

Std. RQ’s can be used tubeles with Stans no problem. I have been using them for about 3 years. They do take a while to seal, by that I mean, they can drop in pressure when left for a few days. My next pair will be the Protection version. Not as heavy as UST, but not as flimsy sidewalls as std. 😉

Modified original case to accept a screw in filter, and made a couple of waterproof buttons from old TV remote rubber buttons and a bit of lathe work to make 2 piece alloy outers bonded together 8)

ALL glasses have UV protection, if you are looking through cling film, you have UV protection. You never get burnt driving a car in the sun do you 😉

But those glasses will be no good for riding, they are too sealed. they will steam up just getting your bike out of the car 😯 😉

I have used Stans tape, then bought some copy Stans tape. It is the same width, thickness (.0065″) and even colour. It works just the same…but much cheaper.

Superstar Components alloy valves with removable cores work a treat too 😉
