I blame the social inequality, class divide and disillusionment of the lower classes who cant afford a 650B+ bike, or a Boost 110 fork.

Er, the police kinda lit the fuse didnt they? Dont think they were pussy footing around when they were ‘dealing’ with Mark Duggan.

Brompton cranks and chainrings are standard 130mm BCD.

Strapping it to the frame isn’t very neat and certainly doesn’t seem like a solution to the issue.

I’m sure there will be lots of creative solutions for new bikes, but what about the aftermarket adopters? Perhaps they are expecting everyone to buy another new bike.

In relation to the DI2, where do you put the battery on an MTB?

You cant be certain a bike will have bottle cage mounts and most likely purchasers are probably running a dropper post so that location is out as well.

I cant see them just strapping it to the frame, so where will it go?

    Are you talking about this

    Whats so terrible about it?

Saddles are pretty personal things I guess

Have you tried an S-type bar, much better riding position for an existing cyclist IMHO. M-type is very upright.

Nothing wrong with the standard saddle (if it suits your behind) and the hand grip under the nose is useful.

Went on a weekend ride with them once, my mates chain snapped. Rather than waiting the two minutes it took for us to fix it, they just rode off…

In reality it makes sod all difference,

Potentially the crank will pull on a tiny bit further if the taper is greased, but so will over-torquing it.

Follow the crank manufacturers torque setting and re-tighten after riding up and down the street a bit.

Got a pair of Durolux RC2 at the moment.

Great performance and mega cheap, would recommend them.

They can be internally adjusted from 14-16-180mm as well and will just about take a 650b wheel making them pretty versatile.

seanodav, if you find them a little firm you can soften them up a bit by compressing the fork and then pressing down on the air valve. This will create a slight vacume when the fork is extended and make them a tiny bit softer.

I have the 2011 damper retro-fitted in an older pair of 55R’s and the RC3 damper is amazing.

Lots of snow/slush on Leith Hill today, the rain didnt wash much away and although the snow was almost gone in coldharbour once you got up to the top it was a slushy mess. Fairly hard going and some bits almost unrideable due to the ice and slush, though it was lots of fun sliding around.

    lots of fog/mist today aswell.

Id agree that its probs pinch flats and would fit some Brompton Kevlar or Marathon tyres. 100psi each end and you shouldnt have any further problems.

    OOPS, DMR not CMR.

The CMR can be made to work with a 32t (as ive been running on my bike for a few months) but you need a bit of dremmel work to get it to fit. So its not an ideal solution.

The DMR chaincage will work on this setup but requires a bit of modification (will post pictures of the one i have on my bike if i get chance later)

MRP might be bringing one out

But in the mean time a Bash ring and a Jumpstop is your best bet.

I think its a case of what goes around comes around, Short travel is the new big thing it seems.

Elsewhere in the new dirt there is a lot of talk about quality not quantity (of travel). Certainly we will probably see more short travel rigs for more ‘extreme’ riding in the near future.

Trouble is once a bike or suspension design is perfected in short travel they will make a longer travel version and we are back to square one, only for it all to happen again…..

I would think it worth mentioning that these pictures are taken from the new issue of DIRT, in case anyone wants to read more.

    Better tyre and chainring clearance.
    Possibly 1.5in headtube.
    Bigger seattube for gravity-dropper-alike compatability.

Sounds like it would be my perfect bike with those adjustments, although i think i will be ordering a summer season next week. Along with a 27.2 gravity dropper (which will cost more than the frame!) cant wait.
