Jesus christ that looks amazing @zilog6128. I fear I’d end up burning my garden fence (/house) down though. What are the fuel costs like?

Also the total lack of PPE in that press photo is great :D

Nature programs, especially the ones from far flung places like the David Attenborough stuff.

David Attenborough. National Treasure my arse. I reckon he’s done more harm to the environment than good with his endless flying around, promotion of exotic holiday destinations and fictionalized portrayals of the natual world being hunky dory (I know they do the ‘here’s the real version’ for 5 minutes at the end now, but no-one watches that bit).

Ah, well, I’ve got until Jun 5th to improve before my last £12.99 month runs out…

Zwift nerds – I did a race last night (‘B’ category, enforced) and averaged 4.0w/kg. That was higher than everyone who placed higher than me according to the summary at the end, but I was 49th! What’s that about?

    EDIT: wrong year.

It’s a shame they didn’t at least give people a bit of warning so they could switch to an annual membership at the current old price, as per the OPs thinking. I probably would have signed up for a yearly membership today – instead I’m going to cancel my monthly one.

    I’m fairly sure it isn’t!

Fair – no doubt manual application is also appropriate, but my gable end wall was 90m2 so that would have been even more of a job. And the spray method did give a lovely finish.

Will you be selling your Garmin strap? I have the old Garmin one that is ANT+ only and I’d quite like one that does Bluetooth too.

If it’s any consolation every pair of the three Giro shoes I’ve tried over the years (one pair branded Rapha, one other road pair and one MTB pair) have been stupidly narrow.

Anyone going out in that would be dumber than a box of hair.

To give a very narrow answer, I had silicone render done on the gable end wall of my previous house and it was fantastic. 100% recommended.

SW facing, loads of driving rain (high up in Sheffield), it didn’t have a crack or a mark on it after three years. Then I moved.

It was an expensive pro install, I can’t imagine DIY would be very successful for anything but the smallest area given I think it has such a nice finish partly because it gets sprayed on.

I think the Gaslight Anthem could legitimately be bigger than they are.

Tate has pretty much come out as gay, allegedly, by saying having sex with a woman for any reason other than for producing children is gay.

Sex for procreation only is a key plot driver of Margaret Atwood’s the Handmaid’s Tale. It’s also a view of parts of the pro-life agenda.

So whilst it is stupid, Tate is far from the only one to manage to reconcile (or miss) the contradiction, unfortunately.

I do enter raffles on a car forum and have won 3 cars

I’ve never even won a selection box at the school Christmas play raffle…

I did a physical geography PhD. I’m not in the field now and what I look back on most fondly is all the opportunities to travel. Grab everything with both hands; if you don’t stay in academia, chances are you’ll never get to travel so much on the company dime again.

If your fieldwork is going to be in the UK, bad luck ;-) . I did my research on the beach in South Africa…

Dunno about 10 year old me, but I could usefully tell 30 year old me not to ever assume your partner has your best interests at heart. Bleak but would have served me well twice over the past decade.

Anyway, I’ve got a 30mm Hope BB that’s lasted 5 years – the one before that I had replaced under warranty because it exploded somehow!

Maybe you overtorqued it with the strap wrench ;-)

    Hmm.

I thought the many positive Trustpilot scores look like they’re all from bots: 5 stars from “Cheryl Woodman” 39 minutes ago (1 review), 5 stars from “Devendra” 51 minutes ago (3 reviews) etc.

Domain was registered in 2015 but in Arizona (?), but they claim to be a UK-based company, and zilog has clearly read they are Canadian somewhere. So completely opaque at best…

New BB – PF30/BB30 – no idea what that means. Its going to be running in a 73mm standard threaded BB shell.

Neither a PF30 or BB30 is going to be running in a 73mm threaded BB shell – they are both push-fit standards for specific (non-threaded) BB shells.

Sounds like you need one of these, a 30mm BSA threaded BB:

EDIT: I have no idea why STW won’t let me post URLs at the moment. Google “Hope 30mm threaded BB”. Wheels MFG, Praxis and Rotor also do them. I don’t know if Uberbike do 30mm threaded BBs but if so and you like the brand, that should be fine too.

Cheers @phil5556, I envisaged having to take the buggers off the wall again, but that sounds doable while they’re still up.

    Holy thread revival.

I’ve just put up some of those Planet X hooks (albeit from eBay as Planet X have sold out).

I’m struggling to fit my 2.6″ tyre in. @phil5556, did you bend the hooks on yours to get those fat bike tyes in? Can you explain the process please?

The Kona Process from 2015 (ish?) was the last innovative/good bike they did I think, chonky frame and build but relatively short travel at 130mm.

Thanks for the light tips. I’ve had two Moon lights and I’m 50:50 on whether I rate them or not. I might buy the one @dchwhite recommended as a deciding vote :-) .

Ah, if you want a bigger area that’s fair enough. I thought the paving looked fairly decent but clearly the photo is deceptive!

Personally if I were the OP I’d keep that block paving, and spend the money you’d save on decking to get someone to come and soft wash/jet wash/resand/seal.

Anyone seen any bargains on rear lights? Mine bounced off the other night :-( . I thought there’d be some decently reduced ones now it’s getting out of lights season but I’ve not seen any particularly tempting deals.

Timely thread, I’m going in September :-)

Any locals/experienced visitors have any tips for vegan restaurants or general survival? Don’t go to dried fish street I assume :D

(And yes, I know it’s a ridiculous question, but humour me – not me but my partner…)

    as per hedonistic adaptation

That sounds like the right word but it’s not. ‘Hedonic’.

(Hedonistic adaptation definitely more fun, but dosn’t also encompass getting used to Kellogg’s cornflakes instead of the supermarket brand…)

    Excellent rant 9/10

Could be 10/10 if threats made to Halfords.
