You’ll have lost any passion or soul you had for riding a bike

Also any ability you may have had to negotiate ‘technical’ road features such as corners, roundabouts, speedbumps….

The new Charge ad on this site is awesome. The rider slays that muddy trail to death.

I’ll take a picture of the one i’ve got tonight and send it over so you can compare. I’m pretty sure the diameter would be the same – all road bars are, right?

Anyway, thanks Luke. There’s no hurry.

She should probably do that horse mounting thing where you stand on the left-hand side of the bike, put your left foot on the left pedal, and push along with your right foot (which is crossed over your body and behind and left of your left foot) a couple of times before swinging it over the saddle. Viola!

“They really are rubbish when correctly adjusted even in the dry”

I think it may be that your expectations are exceeding the brake’s abilities.

Dunno about that: i can lock either wheel at will with my vees (if dry as stated) – avid 20s and speed dial levers.

    Maybe new cables would help?

The difference between a jogger and a runner is a race entry form.

    Its speed, surely?!

Where do you draw the line though? 7 minute miling would be jogging for a lot of people, balls-to-the-wall suicide pace for others.

    ooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhh get her!

It might be a good idea to make sure you have several routes. It will keep your interest up and the variety will be better for all round leg strength.

Sorry, I wasn’t trying to be a d1ck or owt. Pretty well established maxim though, and racing is fun! Enter a 10km or something in a month or two and look at the runnersworld.co.uk training plan for that event. Actually that might be worth doing anyway, even if you don’t want to race – will give to get an idea of how to better structure your sessions and build up mileage.

I ordered some stuff in the sale, got a call three or four days later to say it was out of stock. I was annoyed.

    Sorry, what a great anecdote.

There’s some awesome riding around Chang Mai – drive up to the top of a mountain and descend for a couple of hours sort of deal :-) . Several companies out there who’ll lend you kit, provide a guide etc. We paid about £25 for a day – got GT idrives, lift and guide, body armour etc. It was fantastic.

Eno hub to get chain tension. Just acquired an old steel Raleigh though so this one has to go soon.

(i’m thinking £50 for the frame only if anyone’s interested?)

Warm cheap stuff up – it can hide a multitude of sins – but if you’re spending beaucoup cash then leave it cold.

Also i think if you’re having it with food (like, rather than afterwards) you normally have it cold anyway.

I’m moderately skinny (63 kg ish) and my one piece of advice:

There’s nothing wrong with feeling hungry. It won’t kill you.

All these diets that say fill up on water or fibre of leafy greens or whatever, that’s all well and good but sooner or later you’re going to start filling up on calorie-dense foods again and the weight will pile back on.

Nice one surfer. What race was that? I think from your posts on that daft hrm thread you are a bit faster than me!

I was looking forward to Tigger Tor fell race near Sheffield at the end of this month (got 10th place last year), but my shin doesn’t want to play :-( .

Personally, I’m never going to be able to afford a house (even when I get a new job) on my own unless we go through a sustained period of high inlfation, so I of course am hoping that this happens. Besides, fair enough to those that invested in property wisely and have done well out of it, but those that believed it was a bubble that was never going to burst need their wake up call!

How would high inflation help people to get on the housing ladder?

(i’m not being critical, i just can’t figure how this would work)

*looks around, no horse in sight*

when consulting i’m paid more per day than you [:-)]

and i’ll hand out whatever advice i consider appropriate, thank you. which is none. well, nothing specific to an individual. but i’m happy to point out when someone is being a ninny.

if you want to discuss hrm’s or hrm training in a general sense, go ahead. i will contribute, and at a far more useful and progressive level that you because i know heaps more than you on this subject. i would, however, happily defer to you on matters relating to IT.

it’s that horse again. yunno, horses for co

Wow ro, you must be so knowledgable and rich. I bet you’re fast as hell too. I’m WILDLY jealous! The only thing that puzzles me is, why you are bothering to grace us with your presence at all?

I was a vegan for three months. Not for any particular ethical, moral or even food-taste reason, but i was living with one so i thought i’d give it a try. It was okay, i wasn’t super strict (i didn’t really think about using animal products outside of food, e.g. leather), but in the end i felt less healthy than when i ate everything. First non-vegan item i had was a can of tuna.

MBUK, have done all along (well, thirteen years or so).

Anything else i’ll pick up and read, but i’m really not into Dirt – too ranty and angry, and i often find myself having to reread things as they’re so badly written.
