MrNutt, i’m not going to insult you, but if you really want to know what the 4x4s are damaging on Houndkirk moor and why it will take years to recover (try decades actually, peat doesn’t exactly form overnight) then i suggest you start here:

Shows how much it bothered me .. can’t stand watching Comic Relief! Would rather we pumped 50 million quid into sorting out the UK, gun/knife crime, gangs etc. Our youth need support to stop their criminal ways . .that’s why they’ve ended up the way they are!

But some of the Comic Relief money does go to the UK (though admittedly i have no idea what proportion). There was a horrendously sad bit of film about a young carer, it made me donate.

Pff, get ’em back on again and go out. I did a hilly 110km this morning, i’m now typing this with a compression bandage on and will be changing to the frozen peas shortly. I’ve got an MRI scan next Friday, i figure i might as well give them something to look at.

The final chapter of ‘For whom the bell tolls’, when Robert Jordan tells Maria to leave him behind.

    Not that pathetic, maybe…

Nope, considered getting some bar tape but by the time you’ve added postage CRC was still cheaper.

I thought the 25ml measure was bumped up to 35ml some years ago? (It was in both the pubs i’ve worked in anyway).

p.s. Definitely agree about the bigger measures for intermediate strength drinks though.

Have you read ‘On the Road’? Also ‘Ghost Riders: Travels with American Nomads’ by Richard Grant would be worth a look.

My dad does a lot of work for the likes of Shell and BP. The average time for which their executives draw their pensions is three years. That’s scary; work 100 hour weeks to build up a stupidly big pension pot, then pop your clogs after three years of using it.

Is that because they die extremely young or retire extremely late? Seems an unlikely statistic to me.

Mine has been fantastic so far – not sure of the model but its the road one.

No, very few bmxes were made with “euro” (i.e. mtb) bb shells, and probably none currently*.

Reminds me of the time i got chased by wolves riding home about 3 am after a night out. And there was that other time with the monkeys (they were real though).

They remind me of dolls or some sort of kids toy or something, but i can’t quite put my finger on what.

Some really lovely bikes on this thread (MTT’s Ghisallo my fave). To lower the tone somewhat:

    ]

13 months old now. I don’t like it much, but its a tool and its racked up some pretty big mileage.

Ha ha, the bike i bought a couple of weeks ago pwns anything on this thread so so far. It cost £560, but i’ve sold the Thomson post (bought an Easton EA70 for £11 to replace it) and extra tyres it came with and now i’m down to £526. If i can sort out that last little bit i’ll post a picture.

Post directly above it on CRC’s twitter page: “@carltonreid It’s on trust – Thus the short expiry – Would be nice if people spread it through twitter only and not post on a forum.”

Not if Iceland’s any example. Isn’t their interest rate something daft like 30% now? And Japan did the same.

When? Haven’t Japanese interest rates have been under 1% for the last decade now?

So the manufacturers build top pull bikes with the cable stops in all the right places but you’re not happy so you try to change it…

And then said manufacturers won’t help???

    What ever next?

Eh? Maybe i haven’t explained myself very well, but they both have cable stops on the downtube – which to me suggests that using them and routing the cable via the downtube should be perfectly fine.

Thanks Jonathan – the PX one is indeed fine if i turn it round. I said it was a dumb question! And i’ll try and find some sort of suitable sheath *fnar fnar* for the Trek one.

If you want to be smug, stop putting you weights, power outputs etc on here, lets see your “palmares” []

Now that would be an interesting thread! Not that i have any, apart from a few triathlons (and everyone knows triathletes can’t ride for toffee ;-) )

The black frame (Trek XO) has cable stops for top tube and bottom tube front mech cable routing. However i want to run a normal bottom pull road front mech without a cable pulley thing, so down tube it is. Deffo don’t want full length outers as in my experience the less outer you can use the nicer the gears work. I thought about making the runner longer (maybe cutting a bit of tubing in half), but i can’t find anything suitable.

    Any other ideas?

Nb i’ve contaced both manufacturers (trek and Planet X for the pink frame) and neither said anything about a frame-specific guide. In fact they weren’t any help at all…

EDIT: just tried that and the first few link are nonsense, so just read this:

I rode mine with flats for a bit round Sheffield. Couple of ‘interesting’ moments but it wasn’t as bad as all that.

Swissstop pads are nice – ive just changed to the ceramic ones. Expensive though! Superstar do two sets (i.e. front and rear) for £6.

Incidentally i’ve switched from the Oryxs to Avid shorty 4s (i wanted black brakes) and have got them working pretty well after muchos tweaking.

You could buy my Tektro Oryxs? Pads are almost finished (cartridge ones though so you just need new inserts), £10 both pairs.

“Black Man” by Richard Morgan. Bad-ass sci fi thriller that isn’t too trashy.
