I’ve got three (!) sets of 6800 cranks between mine and my partner’s bikes. Unfortunately they’re all fine – I’ve just looked myself rather than faff taking them to a shop. Shame as I like the look of the new slabby ones.

Fort William is really dull race TV wise. Speed and brutality of top section doesn’t come across and not much in the way of line choice. Riders disappear into the woods then reappear minutes later with big  time gaps, then it’s onto the motorway jumps and again little in the way of line choice and almost always by then the race is already won/lost.

Nailed it. This totally represents almost every year I watched it.

The spokes might wind up/twist rather than tighten towards the end of the build, so watch out for that. Should still be fine, you might just want to be careful to destress the spokes before final truing. And lube the spoke threads.

Dixxon shirts well worth a look.

+1 on the not knowing the dog whistle context, my comment at the top of the thread was ignorant of that.

Can we also add people who use “hurty words” to the same list as grown adults who say “holibobs” and count the “number of sleeps” to Christmas?

Think I’ve often said things like that but replace “tax fraud” with “killing a cyclist”.

In my experience, it’s a good idea to replace anything with “Acros” on it

How they have made such headway in the OEM market I don’t know, their products are garbage

Acros made lovely expensive ceramic headsets in the early 00s. Not sure if they traded on that to start doing crap OEM stuff, or if they got bought out.

You’ll also need to get the right diameter spindle which could be 19mm, 20mm or something else.

I think you probably need to establish the brand of crank and go from there, it’s not a given one brand’s 8 spline axle will fit another anyway (this is certainly true of 48 spline axles at least).

That was a nice thread, thank you for digging it out. 2020 – God, time feels compressed since Covid.

    Back to silly forum names…!

SimonFBarnes (RIP) used to lead rides and take a lot of photos with bogtrotters group over by the Lakes.

Oh heck – that’s a put a downer on the thread. How sad.

Not directly answering your question, but I’m currently building up a Scott Addict CX and the finish on the frame is just lovely. Best workmanship/attention to detail on a carbon frame I’ve had bar none.

Did there used to be (perhaps still is) two quite prolific posters called simonfbarnes and simondbarnes?

I’m struggling to think the TK Maxx supply chain is geared up for providing freshly roasted beans, but I might be wrong?

Drying shoes properly will help prevent stink in the first place, but if they’re already stinking, it’s not going to do anything to remove it properly.

You need to get a bucket, fill it with hot water, put a good slug (like 200ml) of cleaning vinegar in there, a tiny bit of bleach, and soak the shoes overnight. Then dry them out as above.

I’m hoping for Chinese knockoff versions of established products with stupid brandnames like GERYFORCE and XXILKFDS.

Dont think that is true, i can see a lot of helmets for sale and they say pre owned/used on the listing details

Oh, my bad, sorry. I was sure I remembered looking for helmets years ago and getting confused that loads of second hand ones were listed as new…

I’ve already discovered that as a private seller I can’t sell helmets or alcohol. Might just been second hand helmets, can’t remember.

No-one is allowed to sell second hand helmets, and it’s been like that for years. Makes sense IMO.

For that reason anyone selling a second-hand helmet lists it as new, which may or may not get picked up and removed.

“Fitness age” is a new metric on me :D

Sounds about as stupid as the “brain age” you used to get from that Dr Kawashima Gameboy game.

Nice! I’d like it even more if they’d resurrected the TV series name/graphics for the gravel bike. There’s a TV series BMX on eBay currently, fortunately its collection only and hundres of miles from me…

Plenty of mortgage brokers without a fee, who at a minimum (if they’re any good) can save you lots of website trawling and form filling.

I can recommend one if helpful?

I did a mini duathlon relay yesterday and I’m pretty sure I’ve got Covid from a flight eight days ago.

It was bloody horrible, I could proper taste blood in my lungs. So would not recommend that.

Ah, but even the funny 20% bit (the political satire) has been ruined recently with misguided attempts at “balance” or simply being cancelled.

My Kryptonite D-lock is (counts on fingers and toes) over 20 years old. I bought it just after they redesigned their lock mechanism so you can’t pick it with a Bic pen lid.

It’s one of the few products I’d buy an identical replacement for without hesitation.

I’ve been wondering if the BBC is going to start undoing some of the changes in output and tone that took place at the behest of the Tories*.

I fear not, but the continued pre-eminence of Keunssberg (or not) will be a good bellwether.

I still have a few friends on there who post stuff I want to read/see (when the alogrithm lets me). And a few sports clubs I’m in use it as the primary means of communication. So unfortunately I can’t see me deleting my account anytime soon.

I’ve left my bike hidden round the back of shops when I’ve forgotten my lock before, as I’d never assume it okay to wheel it in.

I do see scrotes doing it in Tesco quite often though ;-p

I once got hit by a Range Rover, it was proper nasty – I went down at speed and smashed my helmet open on a bin fixed into the pavement.

Went to the police, made a statement (being made to feel like a criminal in the process) and the ultimate response was “nuffin we can do, it was a false plate”. (London Met)

Anyway – I’d report it, good luck.

You’ll have to pay to promote your listing, otherwise it will just be sunk into the abyss of similar items, unless you’re selling something truly unique, in which case, ebay is probably the wrong place.

    This.

For a year or two the eBay algorithm has buried listings that don’t fork out for “promoted item” status, I expect that will get even worse.

    I got a Pixel 8 last month changing from a Samsung A55.

I much prefer the Pixel, the only irritant (for me) is it doesn’t have a feature where you can limit the charge to 80% to prolong battery life like my Samsung did.

I normally get over a day out of the Pixel battery so it’d be no bother at 80%.

It wouldn’t cost any less, but I do like the Merlin Newsboy – and they released a new one last year.

It’s not as simple as you make it out to be

Yes it is. I should flipping hope the capsules are recyclable, but that really doesn’t offset the fact that pod machines are inherently wasteful. 6g of coffee is not equivalent to the carbon cost of producing, shipping and recycling (or sadly in many cases putting into landfill) pods.

Reduce > reuse > recycle in that order.

I watched probably every single hour of live DH coverage Red Bull put out over the last three or four years prior to WB taking over (seriously – I’d do most of my turbo sessions with that on).

    Loved it.

But I won’t pay for Discovery, not because it’s £whatever a month, but because I hate what they’ve done to the sport.

Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and Willow.

Less about the art of cinema, more the sense of being totally transported to another world. Which is still how I value film today.

A bit obscure but I loved this as a child.

Great themetune but I could never make head or tail of what was actually going on in any given episode.

Avoid Shimano Warp-Tech rotors altogether would be my advice, I’ve had more success with cheaper 1-piece Shimano rotors, or SRAM spider-ed ones.

Comments on Monevator.com articles, especially the Saturday news roundup. The squabbling is mainly about Brexit and politics and there are big hitters who railroad everyone elses’ opinions, but overall the advice is usually excellent. Mirror image of STW really…

Or Reddit. R/WSB  “like 4chan found a Bloomberg terminal”, R/Bogleheads for boomer finance, R/UKFire for willy waving (“can I retire early with only £4m in my pension?”) etc.
