My dog one curled one out when we were crossing the road. By the time I got the shite bag out, an Audi thundered past (way over the speed limit), taking most of the aforementioned poo with him…

Geeky I know, but I would love to see a film about the “Battle of the currents” between Nicola Tesla and Edison. I always remember being so disappointed by Christopher Nolan’s use of Tesla in The Prestige. The guy’s experiments were fricking amazing, no need to make stuff up…

I live in a “nice” village, full of spaniels and chocolate labradors, whose owners seem to think it far beneath them to pick up their sh*t. The same arsewits then look down their noses at us because we have a couple of staffies.
Living next to a country park in summer is like living next to a dogs**t processing plant when all those lovely townies (who don’t even pay for the park by using the car park, much better to block my drive…) pop down to let their (barely controlled) pets defecate all over the place…

Still mystified by the bag tied to a tree thing…

Fineshade woods is nearby, as is Rutland water (neither are particularly great, but better than nothing). Plenty of good cottages to rent in rutland, not too far to drive to any of these if you base yourself in Uppingham or near there.

A mate at work has just bought a brand new Trance and, wheel debates aside, it does look really bloody good. Can’t speak for how it goes over the rough stuff, but he’s very happy with it…

I have relatively small hands and rheumatoid arthritis in my fingers, tried all sorts of grips, including Ergon gp2’s with the bar ends and tried all sorts of different padding on gloves. Currently using ODI X-treme grips, which are quite skinny and flanged and wearing gloves without padding, as I found the padding made my symptoms worse. Whatever the reason, they are very comfortable. I think it’s a bit of trial and error with things like grips and gloves, as I never thought my current set up would be the one that worked, but it does…

The wife’s Cube is a 29er. Have to agree with johnnyboy666, if you could find an on-one 456 cheap, it’s definitely a good option. If you’re on a strict budget around £500 though and don’t want to buy second hand, I think the Cube is pretty good.

Just got the wife a Cube Analog for £540 from Leisure Lakes in Nottingham. She is a total beginner, scared of everything but has found her confidence very quickly on the bike.
Can’t say it has the best wheels (alexrims ZX24 rims on Shimano hubs) or fork (Rockshox XC28), but the rest is very good value kit for a bike in this price range. It is absolutely horrific to look at though, blue and fluorescent orange, but I think it’s available in black and grey too.
