    Whaddya wanna know?

Well I was looking at a hemlock/orange blood but after riding the blood then getting back on my hardtail I thought I might put the full sus idea on hold at least till after I test the hemlock in april. I’ve got a DJ frame (comical max max) but its far to small to be riding anywhere other than the skate park/bmx track so I thought I’d get a BFe and swap most of the bits over, I’ve got pikes that can go back up to 140 travel with the spacer taken out, is anyone running pikes on their BFe’s, whats it like?

Also wondering if Cotic will be building anymore big ones and when they will be landing?

Where’s all the BFe riders then, out shredding some gnarly trails?

usually supplied by the paint manufacturer, not a colour chart as such, the paint is mixed to match the cars and can be tweaked for different shades.

Suppose it depends what you are going to do with it, if its just a bike for messing about on and uplifts then yes it isn’t important but if you want to ride it round a trailcentre all day or go off on a long ride in search of some new downhill singletrack, then a comfy seated position for climbing/just riding along is a must.

Coming off a large Zaskar which has a 617mm horizontal top tube and runs with a 70mm stem, the Orange felt much shorter then the quoted 600mm.

My previous frame , a Commencal Mini DH has a quoted horizontal top tube length of 574mm and that felt much bigger than the orange, again with a 70mm stem.

Now I’ve no idea how Orange measure their bikes or commencal and GT for that matter, but on paper it looks long enough in comparison but the reality is the Blood felt far smaller than the geometry suggested.

Just glad I rode one before I bought it.

I’m liking my Zaskar carbon for that very reason, nice and comfy for long rides.

Built up with 120mm rebas so its a more all round bike than out an out xc, now with a big ring as I kept running out of gears.

The problem is that its a bit short too, sure you could fit a long post and a longer stem but for 6+ footers I think they really need to do a 19″. I couldn’t live with it for a do everything bike but I’d love one for uplift days.

400mm post should be fine, I didn’t measure the one that was fitted, I’d guess at about 350.

No my cars worth more than my bikes but people would probably think otherwise when I take them out of the scruffy skoda felicia I use to throw bikes and rubbish in

The answer is not Orange Blood, too short to be riding all day but it would make an excellent indestructable trail bike for a shorter rider. 6ft 1″ on a 17″ was a bit cramped.

The hemlock is starting to look like a no brainer considering the difference in price accounts for a rase seatpost and coil shock for the long rocker plates. I’ve got van 36’s and air pikes so it will be 2 bikes for the price of 1. Cant wait to ride one in april.

Still tempted by a steel hardtail aswell but I think I really want something with a bit of skill compensation and comfort for longer rides.

Yes took one for a test ride this morning, depends what you want it to do really, if your about 5ft 8″ and want an indestructable trail bike that is ready for anything then get one. If like me your over 6ft then look elsewhere, I found it too short to be comfortable all day, was great fun descending though.

Was a bit of a chore to rid uphill mainly due to the fact I couldn’t get the seat high enough on the demo bike, a longer post might have helped, now if they did a 19″ that was a bit longer I might consider it. RP23 shock is excellent and 1 click of propedal is enough to stop it bobbing.

Oh and rubber queens are rubbish in mud but grip well on roots.

Isla bikes thirded or fouthed, whatever we are up to now, my daughter learnt on a puky balance then a 12″ wheel sant cruz, she’s now on a cnoc 16 and its in a different league to other kids bikes. Even has specially designed little brake levers and undersize bars…. brilliant.

Must admit I do like riding my other bike, GT Zaskar, a custom built Curtis freeride might be worth thinking about. At least I’d get the geometry I want. The demo should be good at glentress, I’ve lined up a Cotic, a few hardtails and a CX bike to ride. I’m not in any great hurry to buy so will take into consideration some of the advice on here.

just sack it off and get a decent all round hardtail

classic, probably the best advice yet

Very good, would be ideal if I was a short arse, dont think a 15″ short frame is going to do everything I require. Would no doubt be a scream on the BMX track though.

That sinister would appear to tick most of the boxes, how much do they work out at with the current exchange rate? Just out of interest of course I’m swaying towards the Cotic, no the Orange, I mean the Cotic… arrghhh maybe it will be easier after a test ride.

I’d already ruled out the bottle rocket on weight alone, a mate has the covert and the frame alignment was rubbish, requiring a rebuild of his back wheel. I used to have a preston, one of the old ones where the shock ramped up because it was too short, the new ones look interesting but again probably weigh more than a small battleship.

Nice 4x jfeb, not sure about the colour though.

Why not just get a trail bike and get a DJ hardtail then?

I’ve already got a hardtail DJ bike, it’s going up for sale when I get a new full susser, my other bikes a carbon XC bike and probably gets more abuse than it really should. The DJ is only good for doing just that as the frame is too small for general riding, I was wanting something a bit more versatile.
