In a world with such a choice of nice crisps to eat, if you choose to eat walkers you lost already.

does a mat make all the difference? i thought an optical one on wood with grain should be fine, maybe not

Optical feedback aside, a decent mat will be designed for the mouse to glide smoothly too.

I’m occasionally tempted by the painting, but a colleague plays and regularly complains about the lack of personal hygiene exhibited by the other players

Damn Nurgle cultists giving everyone else a bad name as usual.

i just want a mouse that works!
    and keeps going.
    perhaps moon on a stick?

Go to a shop, pick a mouse off the shelf, they all meet your requirements.

    Is Epic still going?

There is no need for epic any more – thanks to Forgeworld you can have 40k scale titans!

You can learn to code on your own with the help of google. The basics are actually really easy.

As for language, consider what sort of applications you see yourself writing.
C# is probably the most common. And you can dive right in with the free version of visual studio.

The problem with not going back to Uni would be that without a formal qualification, you are unlikely to even get an interview in most places.

Carrying a gel or 2 is a good idea to instantly revive when you are flagging.

If a gel instantly revives you, you’ve gone quite wrong as on a long event you should be maxing out on easily absorbed carbs anyway. The advantage of a gel is you can squeeze one down quickly whilst working hard.

Carbs and a little protein for lunch (a mega bowl of porridge is not a bad shout), then simple carbs through the afternoon.
Usually for an endurance event I have a bottle or two half strength energy drink to sip on in the hours leading up to the event. Ensures you start hydrated and fuel tanks topped up.

If your wallet is nice and plump i’d be looking at the new Scott Spark in the 120mm flavour.

FWIW, I’d go for no pad and wear normal shorts underneath (likely better fitting/pad and possible to wear the tights more than once if you’re caught “between washes”)

If going this route the Endura thermolites are not a bad bet. The teflon repellent is certainly the most durable i’ve come across so far, and its nice being able to brush off beaded mud in seconds after the ride.

Obviously base layer under straps, otherwise its one more item to take off when you need a Dumoulin, which is not good if A) time is off the essence, and/or B) its -5°C

Used to play (even won a major tournament 8) ). Got loads and loads of stuff in my parents loft. Untold hours spent writing army lists

Every now and again i think about getting back into it, but then i see the price of it and remember how time consuming it could be. If i won the lottery so had time and money to burn then yes, i’d have a room in the house specifically for it.

    This is what you need:

That is indeed what I need!
Except I already have around about 10 summer weight jerseys that I never wear because its never summer.

Whole bike swap thing is a bit of a farce.
They should have made the climb in the middle of the course so there would be a penalty for the flat run in if the rider chose to swap bikes. Or better yet just not allowed bike swaps.

Dumoulin for the TT just so long as he goes to the bathroom before the race.
Matthews/Sagan to sprint for the RR. (Don’t think Gaviria or Viviani will be able to hang in). Should be interesting, as GvA and Gilbert will have to try and get away as they can’t match the two favourites in a sprint.

FWIW, I’m currently working on legacy safety-critical medical software controlling delivery of radiation and it uses a mixed bag of C, C++, C# and… Visual Basic!

That’s quite disturbing. C# and VB require windows, and i’d never trust anything safety critical to run on windows – it has far too much of a mind of its own.

    11. Write decent comments! Tell me why a line of code exists, not what it does – I can see that by looking at it!

    12. Don’t code when your brain is toffee, surf STW instead, it’ll save you uncoding everything later.

Lovely bike for sure, but for my idea of a winterised hardtail, the full bike costs half what a Bahookie frame costs.

Ardent i’d keep running just think of it like you’ve now got an ardent race instead :-)
HR2 i’m not so sure, those side knobs are the only grip when you lean it, if they are badly torn they aren’t providing support and just asking to wash out.

For simple project time/allocation we used klok. Was simple to set up and very very cheap.

Me too, its pretty good actually.
Can’t comment on the admin side of it though as i’m just a dumb ‘user’

As he himself has said, you can imagine his smashing the supported record will spur some amazing attempts over the next few years. Imagine if a pro cyclist did it

How many watts are you doing for 16h on the power curve Andy?

    Considerably more than 100W
The difference is, i’d be gubbed after a 16hr day, and Mark can clearly keep it going day after day.

Like I said, it looks like an interesting strategy he’s used. He’s clearly a machine, so could have been riding much harder had he chosen to do so.

Very interesting looking on Strava, he’s obviously been keeping power VERY low, at a guess to minimise energy wasted on wind resistance.
Taken a look at 6-7 days, and all under 100W ave.

Yeah, it doesn’t really work like that.
And even if it did, gaps generated on small climbs get pulled right back in on the flat.
The only places very light people can make a difference are prolonged mid gradient (~7%) climbs, or steep climbs (over 5 mins long or you never burn out punchy heavier riders (GvA, Sagan types)).

Also, on the flat, lets say at 96kg you are doing 288W (3W/kg) using your 80W saving figure, a 60kg rider sitting in is doing 208W, but is working MUCH harder at 3.46W/kg.

In the same way that i’ll never be able to fully experience how bad climbs are for someone really heavy without putting on a 35kg backpack, I don’t think heavy folk realise how much advantage raw power gives everywhere else.

On Zwift I can choose courses that ‘help’ to an extent, but still making it fair for lighter guys too

How is a pancake flat world with no proper climbs fair for lighter guys too?
At 3 & 4% respectively for the volcano and mountain, and the longest climb being ~20mins (less for a fit rider) they are still well in the realms of power climbs, there’s nothing for light guys at all.

If the XC bike is a FS take that, otherwise the trail bike.
For me an XC hardtail is quicker both up and down, but less fun as its rough enough in places to beat me up.

Worst car i’ve driven – Dacia Sandero, had two as courtesy cars, one was bad, the other abysmal.

Most disappointing car i’ve driven – A6 sline – no feedback made it bland to drive, and low profile tyres made for a noisy uncomfortable ride.

In two minds every year about this one.
Looks like a nice mellow way to try a first enduro.
But never manage to look past the negative of a drive and an entry fee for a 90min ride.

Never got more than 1k miles out of the Sram gxp bb, a pattern repeated over several bikes.
Decided to pay a bit more this time and got the wheelsmfg one

    http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/van-baarle-close-to-signing-for-team-sky/%5B/url%5DDvB to SKY?
Seems like an excellent buy for Sky, Stannard misfiring this year, Rowe decided career was too well so decided to snap his leg to spice things up a bit, so a new new classics contender and big engine for towing peleton in GT’s can only be a good thing.

Also, its A) hideous, and B) combination of super steep seat angle and slightly set back BB is going to equal exploded knees trying to pedal it anywhere at a higher intensity than a bimble

I am also a fashion free zone, so wouldn’t let that worry me!

Ah trousers – guaranteed to make me rage.
At 5’9″ and 30″ waist, I’m skinny, but not crazily so.
M&S are now blacklisted for any shopping as visits over a number of years resulted in a grand total of 0 styles available. :x
Debenhams had 5 from about 30 different colour/style combinations.
Not sure if this is a UK wide thing, or a result of shopping in a city where waist size and height are often interchangeable.
