Wowzers, I won’t be swapping to lpg then that’s for sure!!

The meter seems to be quite new, and gives 2 digital readings, I assume one is for the day rate and one for the night rate? Will have a look at it in the morning as its in the shed down the garden and see if either meter slows down when the heaters are switched off at the socket I think.

I might also pop a bit more insulation up in the loft, can’t hurt I don’t suppose!

    Cheers

    Thanks for the replies!

Unfortunately there are very very few houses to rent in darkest swaledale! Other than the fact it’s cold it’s an ok house for the money with a big garden and shed etc.

I think having the chat with the landlord through the agents may be the way forward and see about getting a stove for next winter, it’s a big expense for something that would end up being the landlords, but if it saves on electric… To my knowledge the landlord never visits, they live the other end of the country. Neighbours have gutted their side and tiled floors, all sorts, so it may well not be a problem…

    Thanks folks…

I’d never actually thought that the heaters might not only use power during the night! That probably shows my understanding of electric! Timers sound like a good idea if not, any idea how Id see when they’re using electric? Borrow a smart meter thing maybe?

Bathroom is downstairs and extremely damp, landlord has offered a fan but obviously that won’t solve the damp problem so maybe a de humidifier is the way to go….

Stove would be nice I agree but as it’s not my house I doubt I’d get away with that level of alteration

Mrs FFJA got hers from Sam Turners in Northallerton on offer.. John Norris in Penrith is often worth a look too, loads of that sort of thing there and do regular sales/promotions.

    Thanks all!
The Joie Stages one was the one I like it halfords today, lad had a go at fitting it for us and whilst it fitted ok, he didn’t want to sell it as the buckle for the seat belt was touching the plastic which apparently could make the buckle fall apart in an accident. I have to say as a FF I’m sceptical on that but will bow to their knowledge.

Size wise, she’s tall for her age, must get that from the milkman, it’s more that a more substantial seat will be easier to get her in and out really.

Thanks for all the tips so far tho!

Hmm might see if halfords etc will let me try them for size!

I’m a fireman and it would never occur to me to ask for a sweeps certificate! That said you’d be better of getting it professionally swept, easier and no mess. Alternative is ball of string, weighted chimney brush and drop it down. Or a live chicken. Or a Christmas tree.

With reference to the OP it is the season where the grouse chicks are at their most vulnerable to being disturbed in their broods, from the point of view of an ex gamekeeper, shooting season would actually be a better time to go, the young grouse are up and about flying better then.

Cheers chaps will try a google and a note on that site and see if anyone wants them! Seems a shame to just burn them if someone can make use of them.

Honda mowers for me at work (pro gardener) start first pull of the cord every time reliably. Have a go at taking grass box on and off and collapsing the handle if you need to for storage as some designs are a pain which can get irritating after a while.

Hmmm interesting.. From what I’ve read, nissan ended up extending the warranties to cover seized engines as it became such a common fault. I’m hoping if this ones got to 110,000 it might be ok, ie would have gone by now if it was going to? Maybe!? Ha!

I had a few elm trunks laid in a wet steep pasture for almost 20 years and they were still like trying to cut stone with a chainsaw when I eventually got them logged up. Top notch fire wood though!

My uncle bought a stihl woodboss 028 AVnearly 30 yrs ago and until last week it never missed a beat for general farm work type use! On the hunt for a carb for it now as I can’t bear to get rid of it, would thoughly recommend one of those!

If you’re short on time for advice stu at DBC sells waterproof route guides you could very quickly pick up? Waterproofing may be a key feature for today……

Park in Fremington opposite my house (big yew trees lol), up Fremington edge, follow edge along and drop down to Langthwaite, head down road to Reeth a bit then turn left round the back of calver hill, pick up little walled rocky lane down into Reeth via wooden hand gate off the moor. Couple of hours. Depends how big a route you want!?

I listen to quite a few at work, audible app is probably the most used on phone after twitter etc. Currently on Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. Worth listening to the previews as sometimes the narrators can ruin it if you aren’t keen on the accents etc.

As a Swaledale resident I can honestly say I’m hoping to be away! I think most of the locals are genuinely dreading the total gridlock and closed dale it will bring for the day!
Not being grumpy or trolling but it’s already hard going trying to get up and down dale to farm at weekend due to huge groups of roadies and it’s only gonna get worse for us….

OP, I feel your pain, mini-FFJA is 4 weeks old today and has same thing with becoming unsettled when we decamp upstairs to bed…
+1 for strokes and head, gentle voice etc, midwife suggested that because our room is a bit cooler than living room (freezing old house with no central heating) to try popping a hot water bottle into basket to warm it before putting baby in. Obv take it out before you put them in!

Also, bottles and formula are life savers, don’t let folk tell you otherwise! Mrs FFJA struggled boob feeding and was in agony, (baby a bit tongue tied), formula saved her sanity!
    All the best

    As a fireman:
Professional view- Dogs mostly manage to self rescue, have been to jobs with dogs through ice where I’ve refused to commit crews due to no known location for the dog and risk of losing a ff through the ice..

As a dog owner- I imagine I’d jump in everytime, very very hard not too!

    Stay safe out there folks

Thanks for all the replies, i’ll have a good look on the EA site for the legislation side of things :) Hopefully i can pull out some decent examles from the water squirting side of things for the interview.
While i’m asking, can anyone tell me a little bit more about the training? ie mix of on the job and residential stuff? The website is quite vague about it.
    Thanks all
