Day 7 since extraction. Currently sat in bed with a bag of peas on my face trying to stop my gums hurting so much I’d happily jump out of the window to make it stop. This is crap

Going to try and find a pipette to drip a little clove oil onto the gauze today. It certainly tickles a bit!

My grandmother in hospital shortly befor her death…. “This is my doctor, he’s black but he’s very nice”

In her defence she was 87, from deeply rural North Yorkshire and I imagine had never met a black person ever in her life.

Probably pretty decent at moment, I didn’t find the single track as “flowy” as I’d hoped from pics but then I’m also not very talented!
    I don’t recommend it in January in a blizzard….

Another great weekend, and first time bringing all the kids, lucky to live in Reeth!
    Highlights

Kids getting lent some cow bells in woods on Saturday, cheers long haired dude playing the forks!
Comedy Marshall on stage 7 on Sunday (I was riding Kermit the frog)

Acoustic set on the Sunday after riding was ace. Nice it didn’t wind down quite as fast this year in event village.

Stiff for sorting me out when my dropper wasn’t playing.

Less great were the guy who clipped my bars on 6 passing without shouting and almost had me off and the guy on 7 who was full of “f***s sake idiots” when people had to slow him down a second in the woods. Seriously?

Overall really good, I just need to work out how to ride very steep and loose better! Anyone recommend a skills course for Stages 1 2 and 7!?

Thanks all for the replies. I’ve spoken to Dr today and have an appointment Thursday. Work have offered talking therapy too which I’ll try although I find it hard to talk about as there’s no “big cause” I can point to to explain it if that makes sense. Feels like to feel this shitty again there should be a reason outside of my own head. Hard to explain.

What’s peoples experience of using a normal leaf blower over a backpack – worth the extra?

Depends how much you’re doing? When I looked after a 6 acre garden back pack was great. Smaller ones hand held is fine and a bit more “manouverable”

Cobra 2 stroke one. I use one semi professionally, wasn’t horror show expensive and it’s got the most reliable engine of any of my tools. The collection bag will get holes eventually but for light stuff it should last you ages and replacements are cheap.

Secured the permanent promotion I’ve wanted for years to watch manager at work.
And then had the strength of character to turn it down because it’ll leave me bizarrely poorer and I’m not ready to come off the operational side and start teaching, even though I’ve always wanted to teach a whole time course and let out my full metal jacket drill instructor side!
So and achievement and also not an achievement really, but I could have done it so I’m taking it ha

@Rubber_Bucaneer and @singlespeedstu thanks, yes that’s what I wanted to know thanks :) I’ve never had any problems with the post, maybe I’ve just been lucky, just want to swap the lever.
Thanks for all the other “peak single track” answers too….

Because I have a reverb which has worked faultlessly for years I just want to change the lever to actuate it and can’t afford to replace it and don’t want to?!

    BUT

Also noticed 3 full to exploding bin bags abandoned by previous owner. Full of Lego!!! Star Wars sets, Lego animals, bricks etc

    JACKPOT

My day is made. As you were…

@molgrips 8 radiators and yep they get hot but this never seems to lift the temp. Tbf they’re probably too small for the size of house I think.

A trip to B&Q on the cards here, MrsFFJA’s house was 10 degrees this morning. A day with the heating on and it raised the temp to a tropical 12 degrees….  No noticeable draughts, but wondering if the large un-insulated void below the ground floor is making it so cold? Suspect no insulation above the spare room that’s over the garage too. I’m hoping some insulation in those spots is going to make a difference as it’s always freezing in winter!!

Punch bowl/CB for posh slightly pretentious food.

Burgoyne if you want very posh (for Reeth)

Black bull wasn’t too bad last time I was in and beer is better (used to be awful)

kings arms is ok but staff and landlady are wierd and the landlord ran my cat over.

Bridge used to be ok but not had food there for years

Ahhh yes Glaves are very good. Years ago when I worked in scarbados they had a fire. You’ve never seen so many battle so hard to save a shop, I was determined it wasn’t going to go through the roof and delay pie production.

My van. 3rd injector replaced in a year and immediately miss firing on way home from garage in 5th gear. So will lose more work by no doubt having to to book it into garage again. Could really do with catching a break!

I do a bit of this kind of thing for a living…

Get someone in. But not me; I hate hedges 😂

The EGO battery stuff is supposedly good. I had one of their blowers for a while and liked it.
If it’s a conifer hedge they’re awful, dusty, itchy, you’ll notice every imperfection if you don’t get the sides perfectly flat.
However, if it’s that wide, it’ll also be pretty load bearing. I often do the top just by walking/sitting on it with the hedge trimmer.

Tripod/Hedge ladders are your friend. Resting a ladder against it doesn’t work well and over reaching from a stepladder with power tools isn’t ideal.

I’ve got a set you can borrow if you can get them from Harrogate.

If the drop is the one at the end with the sign above it then yep there’s a chicken run (which I never fail to take!)
I don’t think there’s anything big which doesn’t have a bail out option.

Yep been there too mate, you’re definitely not on your own with stuff feeling pretty hopeless. Mine was also break up related, it barely speak all day and then come home and sit in the same chair in the kitchen and just stare at the wall until it was time for bed. Thankfully I can say now I never got the courage to kill myself although it was a closer run thing than I’d like to admit.
Sertraline helped for me, doesn’t resolve the causes but it gave me a bit of breathing space from being inside my own head.
Happy to listen if you need a ear. X

Look for areas with undercuts of the bank, hands under water nice and still until they freeze off and then when you feel one slide over your palms quickly flick it out of the water.

It’s a bit of a grind I found and then b/w through the fields after bowderdale can be a slog, the adamthwaite bit with the old ruined farmhouse was quite nice on way back into sedbergh.
Was January and a blizzard when I went. Would be much nicer in summer tbf.

It’s a trans union one through the credit karma app.
I’ve raised a dispute on grounds of not authorising the search and it not being me to have it removed, although it’s not particularly impactive score wise.
    Bizarre.

We were down there last week, Sky Garden in the walkie talkie building is indeed good for the views if it’s a nice day. Booking is pretty easy and it’s free.
London transport museum in Covent Garden was good and the shop has some cool books if you’re into that kind of thing.

We put the dishwasher on last thing at night

With my slightly nerdy work head on, you’re much safer using things like washing machines and driers while you’re awake, there’s been quite a few fatal fires linked to using them while occupants are asleep.
Nerd mode off now! Yes the beeps are very irritating! My girlfriends fridge does it when you leave the door open and for added variety flashes it’s lights!

On the subject of diving. One place I would like to see divers go down and film is the Bolton Strid.

It was dived by cave diving group members some time in the late 80’s early 90’s (I don’t have the reference to hand) to confirm that there was no enterable cave below water. Even in very low water conditions it took considerable effort to fin against the current

Heating is still off here. It’s easy, just be unable to afford to buy any central heating oil and that works it out for you! 😂

    Singletrack is a fascinating place.
I’ve seen amazing kindness sympathy and good feeling towards families who have lost a loved one and parent/grandparent.
And equally now vitriol, poor taste jokes and anger towards another family who have had the same thing happen.
    Curious.
I’m no huge royalist, but I met the queen a couple of times and generally found her nice. Perhaps she was perhaps she wasn’t, I don’t know, but like most people you meet in life you can only judge them as you found them?
I’ve watched a fair bit and so has my little girl. As it’s a moment of history.

That transition is lovely in the other direction for about 3 weeks of the year when there’s no nettles and it’s dry! Sunday it was less than optimum (although it makes me feel a better rider seeing that other people fall off or pause on it not just me 😂😂)

Don’t suppose anyone knows who the photographer on stage 6 was in the little bomb hole type feature was? Save me a few hours searching for pics 😂

Finished the intro in a predictably slow time but happy I got round! Stage 4 was rerouted after a crash and was a bit carnage with lots of folk setting off all at once, 5 and 6 were awesome, swoopy and fast even for me and 7 was a slippy off camber horror show 😂 Kudos if you rode it all, I sure didn’t and didn’t see many who did!
Thoughts from today, lots of friendly people (it’s daunting riding on your own even for a local) Ebikes are annoying when you’re being overtaken up hill, and I really should upgrade from a hardtail one day!
If I chatted to you (yellow helmet, Orange Orange crush, tired) thanks for an ace day!
