One doctor had 1 million indecent images on his computer.

    😯 One million!

Given the volume of these big operations to catch individuals who download child pornography and the apparent success the Police seem to have in catching perpetrators i’m surprised that these individuals don’t destroy their computers, phones etc and dump them in the ocean. Aren’t they terrified that they are more or less caught if they’ve ever downloaded this stuff?

Why do they need signs? Surely it’s common sense not to leave it unattended & unlocked in a mtb honey pot?

It is but we don’t all act with common sense all of the time. What’s wrong with a reminder?

I think the problem stems from folk (wrongly) thinking they are amongst like minded people. Fellow cyclists and mountain bikers. I’ve done the same at Cannock, assumed I’m just amongst mountain bikers and families enjoying a day out.

I actually think hora is right, that some well placed signs reminding people that just because they are at a trail centre doesn’t mean their bikes are safe, is a good idea .

All Michael Bay films are either misogynistic, homophobic or racist, often all of those things. He’s an awful film director and should not be allowed to go anywhere near childrens films. How he managed to sexualise a kids film about giant transforming robots is beyond me.

The cheating is the side issue for me, they were all doing it, it was the vindictive pursuit of people to attempt to destroy them, for daring to question and accuse him when he knew they were right. Denial to keep his lie intact is one thing, to actively go after people in order to ruin their lives is something else.

    Despicable human being.

Oh, haha, no worries. My misreading.

Yeah, second hand is an option I hadn’t really considered as i’ve had one or two bad experiences in the past but it’s probably worth exploring.

I do like that Dolan L’Etape. I can get one built with rival for £1036 or 105 for just over £1100. Thats just with R500 wheels but given the state of roads round here they are basically a consumable anyway so will be upgraded once they give up the ghost.

Seems a good deal. Was your experience with them good monkeyboyjc?

    What size is that nobeerinthefridge?

Lots of smaller retailers now drawing XML stock feeds from distributors who then drop ship in on order.
All it takes is an error on the feed/something to be faulty at the distributors and the shop is left high & dry.
As has been said, the desire to force price down results in retailers not being able to hold physical stock if they want to achieve price points and so sales in an increasingly price driven marketplace.
Hate the game not the player and all that…..

I don’t disagree but it’s the appalling service that I object to. They’ve taken my money, kept me hanging for a month so far and occasionally, when pushed from me, send me a cut and paste email with a possible delivery date. If they could at some point have the courtesy to have actually contacted me over the past 4 weeks and said ‘we’re really sorry but we may have some difficulties with your order and we can’t really know if or when we will get it, can we offer you something else or refund so as not up waste even more of your time” then I’d be disappointed but at least treated with a little courtesy and half decent customer service.

So they have finally given me the courtesy and let me know that they THINK it will be in stock on the 18th July. Essentially this could go on indefinitely and I’ll never get my order.

So I’ve spent the past hour calling them with no reply. Can’t even be bothered to answer their phones now. Pretty appalling service. I’ll be getting my money back (I hope!) and never using them again.

Well, we’ve just got a border collie pup to be a companion to our three year old westie.

We’re one week in so far and all has been well. Both getting on well, both enjoying each others company and playing/running around together etc. The puppy stage is always a bit difficult particularly when trying to avoid jealousy with our very needy westie, but i’ve no regrets so far.

Did none of the entitled dog owners on this thread read the “investigating” bit in the OP?

Dog investigates seemingly abandoned bag in park. Impressive dog.

It would seem reasonable to send a ‘dispatched’ email I would have thought. Every other mail order company i’ve used does.

I’ve called again this morning to be met with the same “we’ll check and see if it’s arrived and let you know”. No doubt i’ll have to contact them again tomorrow to get the ‘let you know’ from them.

I was quite happy to wait, although I wasn’t expecting near 4 weeks and counting, but it’s just the lack of communication from them and the attitude that seems to be I’m unreasonable for expecting some sort of update.

It may be selfish and narrow minded but I don’t want mountain biking to become the universally popular, overcrowded, over marketed, endless fighting for space sort of past time that road cycling has become.

Sometimes just making things bigger and more popular doesn’t mean better. Usually the opposite in fact.

Yeah, as I thought. I will buy it as it’s a very generous offer from him and I’m sure it will be fun for some shorter speedy blasts but I may just try a couple of longer rides on it and see how I get on.

My girth attracts lots of admiring glances and the attention of hot chicks when I ride it down the beach on hot days. Meanwhile the DH boys are stoked to smell each others helmets and pile into dirty holes. I also get stopped by supermodels doing XC skiing when out on it in the winter, they just can’t get enough of the girth. Meanwhile the DH boys are round each others houses wondering if their pals caught them staring too long at their mums paps. Mostly though I just ride it by myself in the dark on beaches and snowy mountains where no one else can see. I’m so ashamed that I don’t live in Surrey with my 160 FS bike that I have to tell everybody on the internet about daily. I really wish I had a small muddy hill within 4 hours drive that I could go to and show off my “latest offer from CRC” buying prowess. No, instead I have to sneak out and do my best on the miles of sandy beaches, dunes, forests and snowy mountains all accessible from the door. Maybe one day if I work hard enough and get to move to that mtbing mecca I shall be able to afford a real bike and get rid of that shameful girth that holds me back so.

    Insecure much?

To the living, I am gone.
To the sorrowful, I will never return.
To the angry, I was cheated,
But to the happy, I am at peace,
And to the faithful, I have never left.
I cannot be seen, but I can be heard.
So as you stand upon a shore, gazing at a beautiful sea – remember me.
As you look in awe at a mighty forest and its grand majesty – remember me.
As you look upon a flower and admire its simplicity – remember me.
Remember me in your heart, your thoughts, your memories of the times we loved,
the times we cried, the times we fought, the times we laughed.
For if you always think of me, I will never be gone.

Well, I’ve just replied stating the bike was sold as seen and that I described it to the best of my knowledge and was unaware of any of the claimed faults, other than those I was aware of and pointed out in my ad. And ended it stating that I wouldn’t be engaging in any further correspondence with him.

I have the two ads – one from the builder of the bike and the one from the guy who sold it to me a few weeks ago. I described the bike honestly and described the faults I was aware of.

In the ad I stated it started and ran fine – it did for me and when he looked at it
I stated the gearbox worked fine – it did for me and he put it into gear when he looked at it.
I stated the speedo didn’t work – he looked at it and said he believed it was the cable not having enough slack.
I stated the ticking noise and that I thought it might be the cam chain – he heard that noise when he viewed the bike but seemed unconcerned.

I stated the lights and horn worked – they do
I stated it had an MOT and TAX – it does
I stated that the builder of the bike added new levers and rear sets and re-painted it and rebuilt the engine. I have the two ads which both state this.
I explained that I wasn’t an expert and had only ridden the bike for a few minutes in the few weeks I’d owned it.

I don’t know what else he could expect from me.

No oil leaked from it at all in my ownership, not a drop. He stated it leaked when he rode it.

Also he was keen to tell me that he was a drag bike racer and builds his own bikes so he was hardly a novice to mechanics. His van was all kitted out with bike related kit etc. Hardly a clueless youngster buying his first bike.

If you are feeling bad and can afford it, then offer to refund him the original purchase price and get the bike back.

I definitely can’t afford it and wouldn’t buy it back on principle. I didn’t mislead. I had no idea that it leaked oil and certainly had no idea that it had a problem beyond a rattly cam chain.

Can you print/save the ad of the original seller (incase its deleted due to housekeeping by site provider or himself etc). Same with your ebay ad and print the buyers emails.

Yes i have the ad from the builder.

Presumably you gave a sales receipt which also included: “Sold as seen and tested”?

No didn’t bother with a receipt.

I said when i bought it, why i was selling it. Then said it starts and runs fine, and listed the things that had been added to it by the builder of it including a rebuild. (I have the ad from the builder). I mentioned that the brakes, lights and horn worked and it had an mot and tax. Then i listed the faults i was aware of – speedo not working and ticking noise which i said i thought was the cam chain.

    That was about it

He’s asking me to cover the cost of the work so far which he says is £350 or he’ll take me to court for the full cost of bike plus legal fees etc. I sold him the bike for just £1100.

He spent a good 30 mins looking over the bike, started it up with no problem etc. i explained i wasn’t an expert to him. The guy i bought it from said it had been fully rebuilt and pointed out the issues which i pointed out to my buyer. I never got chance to ride it properly to discover the issues he is now stating it has.

Ahh thanks jairaj. I haven’t yet recieved the frame so not sure what the drop outs are like but i think they are just threadless holes for the axle to slide straight through. I’ll hold fire and wait until the frame/dropouts arrive.

My frame is a DMR Bolt which now has 142×12 dropouts on it. Just having difficulty finding out what axle is compatible.

Thanks for the saving tip though!

I’ve just ordered a long version which I will be building into a mini-downhill bike. I much prefer short travel bikes so it seemed the perfect frame for the job.

Just thought it’s worth mentioning that if you haven’t already read it, his autobiography ‘bigger than hitler, better than christ’ is definitely worth a read. It’s exactly what you would expect a Rik Mayall autobiography to be.

No doubt that mountain biking is an expensive game if you want higher end kit but it’s always been that way. Its saving grace however are the seemingly endless sales with the big players (CRC etc). I would never buy forks for a thousand quid but I have just bought thousand quid forks for 430 quid from CRC.

It was doing the same on my ipad last night. Fine today though.

Not very cheery but I always get the impression that if most devices can’t view a website then you’d blame the device. But Apple users automatically blame the website. As if they couldn’t possibly be anything wrong with a device that expensive…

I think you’re over analysing the situation a little. Apple envy?

Yeah, i guess in 1947 optimisation of horsepower on bsa c11 ( which was underpowered and heavy to boot) isn’t something they worried about. I wonder if there is anything other than baffles in the silencer?

This thread has put be off ever using OO/PX.

Good as new with about a dozen downhill runs in its life due to injury for most of last year.
