Currently riding a 2009 R6 on the road. I’d never track day her though. The down side I have with bike choice is my height. Being 6’2 can be a pain although the R6 is very comfortable as was my old NC30 back when I was a teenager.
I’ve got a valid ACU road racing licence currently from my Supermoto days so Mallory sounds ideal.
fervouredimageFree MemberBroken left wrist at the moment. Feeling more sorry for myself each day and getting increasingly bored. Riding is just impossible. I’m at a loss for something to do so junk food and films I’d never watch seem to be the order of things at the moment.
fervouredimageFree MemberNC30s make great track bikes, fairly light and handle brilliantly – just be prepared to put the time in fettleing it.
Absolutely. Painfully reliable as well as far as I can remember. That’s the machine I’m initially looking at although I haven’t ruled a 2 stroke as some have suggested. A good old 250 could be great fun.
Don’t know much about rgv 250’s but have heard a few good things about them. Seems to fit the bill.
fervouredimageFree MemberNo, wide bars are the future for all disciplines (particularly roadies) but some fools don’t like them but I shall resign myself to the fact we all have preferences. Just some preferences are wrong.
fervouredimageFree MemberWide bars are the future. I reluctantly stuck some uncut Renthals on my DH bike and immediately I felt more comfortable on the bike. I’ve stuck Renthals on every bike I own now.
Horses for courses.
fervouredimageFree MemberYep, I would no question. As someone who has never competed abroad before I’d jump on that.
fervouredimageFree MemberI’m in the first throws of doing this so at the minute I have no idea what I want.
I’ve come from a motocross background but the body can’t take much more of that so a handful of track days throughout the year and lots of ‘tinkering’ time in the garage with the bike will keep me smiling.
For nostalgias sake I was tempted by a Honda NC30 (400). Hugely underpowered but I had one when I was a teenager and after seeing one running at Donington the other day eating alive bikes much much bigger I was seriously tempted by one. They still look great too IMO.
fervouredimageFree MemberYeah, the cost is a concern. I intend to buy something cheap and maybe get in a half a dozen days a year at the most so hoping that will keep the costs fairly minimal. Just a bit of fun to get the endorphins flowing really.
Where do you find the costs stack up most?
fervouredimageFree MemberI think you’ve offended people here slimjim. Best thing to do is apologise and maybe keep a low profile for a month or two.
fervouredimageFree Member…I personally couldn’t just ride past someone in distress/injured but I would always be worrying that the help I could offer would be minimal and would probably panic if the situation was very serious. I would still stop regardless but I can understand how some may decide not to.
fervouredimageFree Memberso he can only afford a cheap bike but has a car and he can travel a long way to ride…….mmmmmmmmm is not convinced by your reasoning.
So you own a car and are able to travel a fair distance to ride, therefore should have the sort of income that can throw serious money at a mountain bike?
fervouredimageFree MemberIt did look very much like (“It was a bad break and therefore has been advised to remain off work for 4 – 6 weeks”) he had been suspended as part of a disciplinary procedure.
No, absolutely not. A doctor advised him to stay clear of work for 4-6 weeks. The company will be worried about losing someone on the ‘shop floor’ during a crucial time of the year.
After speaking to him yesterday, he intends to take this coming week off work, as he is in a sling to reduce swelling of his hand, and return to do lighter duties the week after. He will pick up full pay for that week (companies policy) and then see what the Company Director has to say.
fervouredimageFree MemberThanks for the info. I’ll link him this thread and try and advise him as best I can.
Boriselbrus – In your experience how do you find that employers treat employees after a claim is made. Is it a case of just waiting for the right opportunity to then get rid of the employee or do good employers happily put their hands up and out and except that it’s reasonable for someone to make a claim after an injury that wasn’t their fault. I think his main concerns above all are simply getting paid whilst off and keeping his job safe by not rocking the boat. On the other hand, my feeling is that the accident would have not happened had he been managed correctly and he has a nasty injury, pain and potential surgery plus all the subsequent worry for something that wasn’t his fault. I’m not a fan of compensation culture per say but this particular situation seems wholly unfair to him.
fervouredimageFree MemberFor so many reasons this is remarkable.
Who advised him to remain off work ? and why?I don’t have all the information but as far as I know his doctor has advised him not to work for 4-6 weeks. Surgery on the finger may also be required as the break is very bad. He will be told if he needs surgery on Friday.
Most of the work he does requires a ‘delicate’ touch using a variety of handheld tools so have fingers strapped up will certainly limit his ability to carry out his normal duties. Generally I am aware that the company has some real training issues and they tend to work on very old fashioned principles i.e get on with it and shut up.
I don’t believe he or others have received any formal training on any machinery or given any Health and Safety info. It would seem that in terms of advice and info it’s just expected that colleagues will pass on info and knowledge as and when they think they should. A large number of senior staff were on holiday at the time of the incident and the person who was left in charge I am aware is less than adequate at his job.
fervouredimageFree MemberHe’s only been there 3 months. He’s had very little in the way of any training etc. My initial response to him was make a claim. His hand is in a real mess. Cut up and bruised with a very serious break. The Assistant Supervisor (Other senior staff were on holiday) was completely uninterested and unsympathetic to make matters worse.
It is a small company with a total staff of about 20 including admin and factory workers.
fervouredimageFree MemberEnough space for the helicopter?
Not a problem. Neighbours garden is adequate.
fervouredimageFree MemberI drove past yesterday for work. It looked miserable. Muddy, wet, cold and miserable faces.
I wouldn’t advise the trip for today.
fervouredimageFree MemberSuns just come out down here. Panic over everyone. As you were.
fervouredimageFree MemberFor a big part, road riding and racing.
I’ve been toying with the idea of Time Trialling. Initially because I think the bikes are works of true beauty and I want one, but the challenge of a TT really appeals, plus there are an awful lot of TT clubs around here it would seem.
fervouredimageFree MemberI’m intrigued as to why you would need a £500 monthly budget for cycling?
fervouredimageFree MemberI actually hope Lucas does do a Reboot of the originals. It’s about time he tried to turn the Star Wars saga into a bit of a money spinner. I’m sure it has some potential to become a franchise.
fervouredimageFree MemberHuge AP fan who didn’t know anything about this.
Thanks!
fervouredimageFree MemberA truly remarkable example of a human being. Clearly many people were richer for knowing him.
Thoughts and best wishes to his loved ones.
fervouredimageFree MemberDoes anyone know how I can convert my double glazing to single pane. They are fine at the moment I just want to make them worse.
I’m not replacing my bikes for a fixie, I’m simply adding one to my collection. It was just fun, a bit different. No harm done surely?
fervouredimageFree MemberA nastier person than me might say that’s what you get for not abiding by eBay rules, karma and all that
I would hope Karma has got bigger fish to fry.
fervouredimageFree MemberSo, they’ll be released this year or next then I guess.
fervouredimageFree MemberGo to shop.
See product.
Buy product.
Go home with product.
That’s all well and good if the shops have the product. By all accounts none of these shops ever have any products, which is the problem.
Go to distributers.
See product
Beg to buy product direct from distributer.
Leave without productfervouredimageFree MemberOff to Scotland for the World Cup in June and then hanging around for a week to see how many bones I can break on the WC course.
Does anyone want to raise me on 3?
fervouredimageFree MemberWow, as far away as that? How do you cope?
They’re parking in a public place; you have no claim to the road outside your house. You have no redress I’m afraid, other than asking your neighbour to be a little more considerate.
Parking on the verge might be illegal; certainly if it was a pavement then it would be. I’m assuming it’s not a dropped kerb, in which case you might have some luck getting the council involved to stop them doing it. If I were your neighbour though, I’d be pissed that you’d gone running to the authorities without saying something to me first. (And if you came whining to me about parking on a public road I’d tell you to wind your neck in.)
Cougar, can I ask you to re-read my post? I clearly state that I am aware that nobody has a legal right to a spot simply because it is outside their property and that isn’t my issue. If they want to park outside my house, then fine. I only have 1 car so have no need to regularly use the spot directly in front of my house. I simply have an issue with the fact he has a double length driveway and garage and in the 3 years I have lived here neither the drive nor the garage have seen car tyres and instead the verge outside my house and indeed the road directly outside my house have become his parking spots instead. If I did have 2 cars I wouldn’t have any where to park the second car as a result. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to want the grassy verge outside my house not to be a muddy pit.
Also, I should add that if you told me to wind my neck in I’d bludgeon your head in with a stone. I do have a tendency to overreact I’m afraid. What can you do.
fervouredimageFree MemberYou know what this means…
A Lego Back To The Future console game with accompanying original soundtrack. The stuff of dreams.
fervouredimageFree MemberGood points seavers. In fact the more I think about it the more ridiculous my concerns seem.
In fact, in the job advert it emphasised the permanency of the position, the long term staff members etc. You’ve all collectively managed to ease my mind. Thanks.
fervouredimageFree MemberThat’s how I am trying, and failing, to look at it footflaps. They took on another guy 3 months ago and he has been promoted today (although he had direct CAD experience) so there is positive movement within the business.
During the interview the Director made a point to tell me they like to keep hold of people and they have staff members who have been with them for 10 years plus although they have on occasions moved to short term reduced working hours when business was slow.
I think I just need to relax and enjoy the fact I have got a job.
fervouredimageFree MemberThe problem I think I have is that I have never worked for a private business before, let alone a small one. I’ve always worked in the public sector/education and it’s been a big transition for me.
fervouredimageFree MemberI think it’s fair to say a bit of work has gone into them.
fervouredimageFree MemberThis has all been incredibly helpful and simplified what I was initially concerned would become complex. 😕
fervouredimageFree MemberAfter reading and contributing to this I’ve realised what a miserable, uptight, pretentious prick I have turned into.
fervouredimageFree MemberGenerally just the need to overstate things.
When people describe something as being ‘Hilarious’ when it really is nothing more than mildly amusing. The use of the word literally to describe something that didn’t actually happen? “It was so hilarious I literally wet my pants”.
Really? you actually wet your pants, you actually lost control of your bladder and started to urinate uncontrollably whilst fully clothed standing in a department store whilst you were laughing? That actually happened?
