Go with electric. Nitro is often fiddly and for 150 quid you’ll end up with something less than useful.

Take a look at electric buggies/ trucks at 1:10th scale. Go for RTR (ready to run) models and invest in one or two extra battery packs.

    Not dead ones.

It’s a good idea and I’ve certainly looked at those options before. A few years ago I got quite stressed at the idea that I’d not contributed anything, I’d not helped anyone or anything. My job is just about lining the pockets of the top brass.

I think my wife might be in a different place though. I think she is just utterly disenfranchised with it all. I might suggest living on a barge, see how that goes down 😉

Road bike for me at the minute, although did have a surprisingly nice ride with the wife down the canal tow path last Sunday.

    Really enjoyed it.

My Christmas will simply involve a few days of mountain biking, whilst the trails are relatively empty. I’ll be blissfully unaware of anything Christmas.

We’re on a fixed rate for another year. Essentially we’ve been battered financially for the past 2 years and we are struggling and we will no doubt struggle if/when our mortgage repayments increase come the end of our fixed term.

We aren’t able to save at the moment, we are just paying bills. Wife’s job isin jeopardy so we aren’t in great shape. Regardless, we’ve never had any issues with our mortgage but a 3 month break would at least allow us to put something in the bank should things go from bad to worse.

Obviously if I had one, I’d need to turn it into a back to the future replica though.

Likewise. Tragically, my longing for a Delorean comes simply from a childhood obsession with the BTTF saga. Every time I catch glimpse of a Delorean in real life (oh so rarely) I turn into an excitable child.

One of these. Utter junk but if I could have any car ever, then without hesitation:

Agree on the comments about downhillers being a friendly bunch. I find that they are the most layed back of all cyclists and generally can’t be happier than when you agree to follow or be followed by them Down a run.

Every race I’ve entered I’ve only ever got encouragement from fellow riders on my run. There is, I find, a mutual respect amongst downhillers on the basis that regardless of your ability, you are giving it a go and that in itself is enough.

If any of you go to Aston give me a shout, I’ll happily meet up with any of you and show you the fast line down the black run 😉

Is this thread still committed to actual mountain bike discussion? I’m almost gobsmacked. No pedantry, no snide remarks, no vitriol, just like minded folk talking about mountain biking for 2 whole pages.

    A first surely?

Yeah, I remember the one at Bridgnorth. It was quite good fun if I remember correctly. Atherton whitewash wasn’t it?

I personally think, given the quality of some ‘urban’ downhill events I’ve seen recently, that adding one to the WC calendar would be a good move.

Another downhiller here. Almost exclusively DH in fact, though I do have a trusty Spesh Camber for occasional trail bashing.

Also riding a Scalp at the minute, which is by far the best DH bike I’ve ever owned. Aston is my local spot and will be entering all the British champs rounds next year so will no doubt see you around at some point nukeproofriding.

Good so far. On pay as you go and have a package with triples my credit. Put 10 quid a month on, they give me 20 quid free credit to use that month. No catch.

A few years ago I put a 5 inch long, 3 inch deep gash in my inner thigh, just a few centimetres away from far more ‘delicate’ flesh.

I did it on the black run at Aston. I’m not 100% sure the actual cause but 2 days later my poor wife discovered a lump of flesh on one of the pins on my left pedal so I’d hazard a guess.

I do have pics, I’ll have a dig and upload them. They are unpleasant however.

My iPhone 5 dropped signal twice today. Twice! Each time for about 3-4 minutes.

What sort of world is this? It’s like living in 1349 plague ridden europe.

as did the people who reported it to the police …perhaps you would like to comment on that?

yeah, because that really hasn’t been given enough attention.

Few years ago I was in Manchester and I passed this small group of kids playing football in the street. I said cheekily ‘This is where the talent scouts need to be hanging out’.

One of the kids replied “F*** you you f***ing c***, i’ll f****ing stab you in the f****ing ear you c*** sucking Pedo B*******! Do you wanna f****ing die you f***ing p****?!!”

    The things they say.

Tricky. I’d say keep it then explain the dilemma you had with keeping/getting rid (in a jokey jovial sort of way of course) and they will hopefully see the overtly conciencous and considerate chap you are.

Could work in your favour if played out right. Depends on the job too of course.

I’m far from being a crazy or skilled Downhiller but I would absolutely love to ride something like that. It looks a joy!

I have a break from it every year for a few months. I couldn’t ride week in week out all year long. I just get to a point where I don’t feel like riding so I don’t. After a month or two I get the bug again and can’t wait to get back out on the bike.

    Works for me.

Push ups not too bad. I’ve comfortably put 14 runs in during a day without being utterly wrecked at the end.

New run looks great, a tiny bit of Whistler on my doorstep.

Another vote for LoveFilm here. Think it’s great. Get on average about 12- 15 blu-rays a month plus all the streaming choices for ten quid. One of the last few bargains left as far as I am concerned.

It was dull, overly simplistic and painfully predictable. A poor crossover of Battle Royale and The Truman Show. If it is true to the book then I’m glad I haven’t read it.

You know what they call The Hunger Games in France? Battle Royale with cheese.

Nothing to with the metric system I assume? 😉

Well, despite the mixed reviews I’m going to give it a watch. I suppose it will be good to watch a film with little prior knowledge to its story.

Dirt represents my interest in mountain biking more, other than reminding me how inadequate everything I own actually is. I occasionally buy STW though, mainly for its inspiring images and occasionally provoking features. Well written magazine in my opinion. Reminds me of the days when I used to write for Dirt (right at the beginning – Jerry Dyer days) when I used to write features to, at the very least, inspire readers.

There have always been bad films and good films and today is no different. I don’t believe that todays bad films are any worse than bad films of yesteryear or that todays good films are better than those of decades gone by.

I do think that many of todays young up and coming directors and writers are coming up with some very original ideas and styles and means to tell challenging and provoking stories.

It’s the collective media led outrage at all this that is doing my head in now. If the allegations are true and proven then yes, Saville was a vile human being and likewise the BBC and others who seemingly ignored complaints or responded nonchalantly should be investigated and held to account but once again the trial by media and and collective outrage based on little more than stories I’m finding hard to stomach.

    I don’t know why I’m surprised.

It’s hard to try and imagine what reaction or emotional response anyone would have to such an unbelievable (and movie themed) disaster/event, but something about his response and actions thus far doesn’t ring true.

    Likewise, I’m out.

The writing of ‘my lovely horse’.

Dougal excitedly shouting “right Ted, let’s go!!!”
Ted “calm down Dougal, it’s just a bit of fun”
Fade out and in to reveal seedy looking smoke filled room with beer cans and bottles on the floor.
Ted “JUST PLAY THE ****’ NOTE!!!!!!!!”

This desert island scenario. Are we to be alone?……

If you need to be alone with you film choice, then yes.
