Yep, i’m going. It’s my girst experience of pro level CX so really looking forward to it. Cow bells at the ready.

Incidentally, it’s not a pre-booked ticket event only is it? You can buy them on the gate?

Ok, yes. I am indeed being very very dim. It’s next weekend innit… I blame Murray Walker and that title deciders documentary that was on yesterday where he pointed out the 2014 title would be decided ‘this weekend’.

Well though it’s far from amazing my first attempt at video editing (also with footage from a gopro) was with iMovie. I’m far from being skilled with this sort of stuff but I was quite pleased with what I managed to turn out with iMovie.

    iMovie vid I made.

I recently updated it though and it appears to be far less user friendly. Still, it’s pretty decent in my opinion. Certainly worth seeing what you can do with it first.

As always the STW collective come up trumps. Fantastic advice and thoughts from all. As a result, the current overwhelming sense is one of excitement.

Now either my wife is very good at masking her emotions or she is just taking all this in her stride.

(I knew I hadn’t seen the last of that picture! Bloody Binners)

I’m going to guess at the 24th March as your due date, based on the fact our 20 week scan was on Monday, also having a boy!

    Congratulations

    Indeed it is!! Likewise congratulation!

Well, he sure can recite words very quickly that he’s memorised with an accent, which is basically the total extent of his acting ability.

The Cube is edging it but it’s mainly for the hydro brakes and the vibrant red paintjob (vanity). There are so many CX bikes in that 1000-1500 bracket it’s a flipping nightmare to choose.

and for what? 45000 green dollars…. worth it?

No, i doubt the money even comes into it. Nobody chooses to this sort if thing for the money. If we attached risk to monetary gain then these guys would be multi millionaires. They do it because they want to and there is a platform that allows them to do it that opens it and them to the whole world with a very little added bonus of some prize money.

Fair play to all of them.

I think what they are basically saying is they don’t want to spend any money on Enduro because the UCI don’t.

Well being a Wolverhampton man I initially thought the accents were way off the mark but actually on reflection, I think they have just been done with more subtlety (respectfully?) rather than the caricature like overtly broad ‘don’t they sound thick’ accents that brummies are usually portrayed as having.

A couple of them just don’t get it right at all but for the most part they are well done.

Buckingham is very much a student town now. I used to work for the university and bought up a ton of properties in town for student accommodation. Buckingham Uni is independent and as such has a large international student body which adds a real vibrancy to ye little olde English market town. It’s nice actually, I’d live there.

That’s not true, actually – it was an ugly myth spread by the studio. The guy took an interest in the script, bonded with the original Marty…and they tied to kill his career by calling him unreasonable.

Depends who you believe. There are two stories. Robert Zemeckis has always maintained that he made unreasonable requests for an actor at that stage in his career.

end of no 1 is different to beginning of no 2

    different actress!

Indeed, there was never meant to be a sequel. The end of one was just a gag really. When the studio insisted that there needed to be a sequel they had to make the end of one fit into number 2 but the actress who originally played jennifer was pregnant at the time and had quit acting. Likewise the actor who played George Mcfly made crazy demands for the sequel so he was told to forget it which in turn meant they wrote him out of number 2 by killing him off in Biffs alternative 1985. The sequels really are films of circumstance.

What would you enjoy using it on, Bike Stuff, ‘any other interests’?

Well, it’s been so long since i’ve really enjoyed anything I feel a bit like a kid in a candy store now. A holiday would be nice, really nice but likewise i’d be tempted to make some time and indulge in a new hobby, simply because I’ve not got my teeth into something for so long and feel like it’s the sort of thing I could do with at the moment.

Take the money you’d pay and stick it in the bank to pay for future vet bills. At least that seems to be a better approach with anyone other than Pet Plan. And once you start with one insurance company never ever change to another one.

Well we were paying John Lewis £12 a month for our Westies insurance. We paid it for 9 months before he fell seriously ill. His vet bills came to £2700 in the end.

We actually signed up with John Lewis for our Westie.

We have had a really terrible 12 months with him which ultimately ended with him passing away earlier this year. John Lewis have been fantastic, offering advice on the claims (of which there have been numerous for thousands of pounds from different vets) and have paid out for absolutely everything without question or quibble. Even sent us a cheque for his purchase price which we had forgotten about and therefore didn’t request it (we donated that to a dog rescue charity).

We have now signed up with them again for a 4 month old Collie.

In similarly good news to pictonroad, my wifes 12 week scan was all good and still into our 16th week now things seem to be going ok. Our first and it’s hard to contain the excitement. All the bad news elsewhere that seems to keep coming our way is just noise frankly.

So, I’ve been on my computer more or less all day today and it hasn’t crashed once. Am I being lulled into a false sense of security?

Thanks all. Looks like another trip to the apple store then. Second major fault with this mac in as many years. In 2012 the HD completely died and was replaced but we didnt back anything up! So, with nothing to lose I stuck my HD in the freezer for a few days, took it out and quickly connected it back up via one of those cheapy data back up things, and bingo it jumped back into life, so i quickly pulled all the data from it onto the new hard drive and thankfully managed to save it all.

Obviously we back up regularly now.

You can **** up, but as long as you sort it out properly, then all is forgiven.
    …for example, Hope.

Absolutely. All companies screw up at some point and most of us don’t have issue with the occasional mistake, it’s how it’s rectified that is the measuring stick for how good a company is. Planet X seem to get the last part wrong fairly often.

Our new house has an old oil fired boiler in it. We had it serviced straight away as we needed the pipes from the oil tank replacing anyway. I asked the engineer who serviced it if it’s about due for replacement and his words were (bearing in mind he was lined up to supply and fit the replacement) “it will outlast you, the old ones just keep on going”.

Have they started rebuilding the jumps now?

Our house is currently stripped down to a brick shell because of severe damp that wasn’t picked up by the surveys we had done. The property was riddled with it but it was well hidden by the vendors.

But, it’s tough. Our risk at the end of the day so we just have to put it right.

I ride what ever I feel like riding and make the most of it. I enjoy natural riding for the exploration and solitude of it and trail centres for the chance to enjoy some purpose built, fast flowy, jumpy trails.

I do tend to pick my times carefully when it comes to trail centres as I really dont enjoy the heaving masses of people that swarm on them at weekends.

Good luck Ferv, I thought the scans were fantastic.

I’m really looking forward to it. It’s been a difficult process getting ourselves to this stage for all sorts of reasons so it feels like it’s going to be an incredibly poignant moment (as it is for everyone of course).

Good luck with the scan, it’s pretty amazing in itself.

And the bit about 12 months of hell isn’t true either, just be prepared to work stuff out rather than listening to other people’s “advice” about what you should be doing (I am aware of the irony of that “advice” ). We have a two year old, next one’s due in March…

    Thanks and likewise congratulations.

I’ve prepared myself for the advice overload that will be coming our way. It’s all well intentioned so I’ll just nod and smile… for now.

I reckon the kitchen will still have a similar look to it though – baby toys, clothes, nappies in place of bike tools and parts. Me and Kes will work something out.

I’m glad I’ve read this thread. My wife has her 12 week scan tomorrow afternoon. I’m trying to contain my excitement about the whole prospect at this stage but I am overjoyed at the prospect of our first.

    New chapter in life.

Yeah, it’s almost certainly the cam chain being too loose. I’m not 100% on Suzuki’s but on many older Honda’s you could just undo a nut and the cam chain tensioner would self adjust.

It could be that the cam chain has now stretched beyond use now though and needs replacing.

Most of my purchases are based on moments of philosophical pondering along the lines of how short life is and what’s the point in living if you can’t do the things you want followed by days of guilt and hunting for the receipt.

Great Post OP. I feel inspired after reading that.

This year is going to my first racing CX and I’m really looking forward to it. It’s a great sport and I’m equally looking forward to going to the Worlds (to spectate) at Milton Keynes in November.

    Good luck in Boston!
