Just get a flashy road bike.

    Things aren’t that bad.

Were having the same problem, mainly due to the fact the couple across the road have a ridiculous amount of cats which means our end of the street is densely populated with the little ****. Our gravel drive is basically a giant litter tray. I will catch them and I will kill them

My most memorable gigs have all been at the civic in Wolverhampton. Great little venue, always felt very intimate and the sound was always great.

Haven’t been there for a few years but must make a trip up.

😳 sorry, I don’t know how it ended up here….

Basically to sum up…. In the first one there’s lots of long pauses and silence followed by a sharp burst of loud noise to make you jump. As Mark Kermode described it; cattle prod cinema.

That’s all you really need to know.

I feel your pain. I remember rolling up to my drive way, stopping and then momentarily forgetting that I was clipped in. That moment was enough for me to just drop onto my side like a bloody idiot in front of all the neighbours. The shame.

If nothing else it is a reminder of the genius of Bernard Herrmann and John Barry.

To think that Bernard Herrmann started writing scores in the 40’s and went on to write incredible and revolutionary scores for The Wrong Man and Psycho in the late 50’s and then continued to do exactly that in the mid 70’s with Taxi Driver…. The score for Taxi Driver still sounds as fresh and original and edgy as it did back then. Genius.

I did start thinking this weekend that something like a SS or 1xN Bass or Bolt with a longer fork might make more sense as a fun in the woods and uplift day bike than a lugging a full on DH bike…

Exactly the thoughts that crossed my mind last week. I race a lot of downhill and do a fair few uplifts but they are all in England and some in Wales. I can’t think of any race I have entered this past two years that I wouldn’t be able to very happily do on the bolt. Plus I get the added bonus of being able to do my local trails, drops, gaps, dirt jumps and throw in the odd gravity enduro as well.

I think I’ve pretty much sold it to myself.

Transition double could be worth a look but again, might be a bit on the small side. When I was riding the bolt I was struggling to think of things I couldn’t very comfortably do on it from DH, bit of dirt jumping and gravity enduros and trails. It is absolutely bang on the money, maybe I will just have to sell my nukeproof scalp frame, I doubt I’d use it much if I had a bolt anyway.

Or the type 1 diabetic ‘brigade’

I’m a busy man, I can’t waist my time asking people their personal circumstances when I wish to judge them from afar.

Maybe I got the wrong end of the stick with the diet coke thing. Maybe she’d already gone and bought a packet of mentos.

It’s the same as the diet coke brigade. ” I’ll have a large bag of chips, 2 battered sausage, curry sauce, can I have lots of mayonnaise on my chips please….. Oh and a diet coke please”.

I think it’s frustrating that the true hard men of mountain biking, who get up at 6:30 on a sunday to drive 4 hours to the lakes to then spend another 2 hours pushing up the Walna Scar road before they even get to ride their bikes that cost them 2 months wages get mentioned in the same sentence as those that get up late, drive to llangdegla and spend an afternoon walking round the black route and eating bacon butties in the cafe.

You get up at 6.30 and drive for 4 hours?! You are indeed a hard man and a true mountain biker. I doth my cap.

I go every year and can say that it does become addictive. I intended to go a couple of times about 11 years ago but then wanted to view from as many points around the mountain as possible.

My only real advice is that although the police are very friendly and helpful they are very much on the hunt during a week where the prey is easy to come by so be careful, but don’t let that put you off giving the mountain a go yourself. If you think you’re fast and are, then it will be joy to ride. If you’re slow and lacking in confidence then it can be a very intimidating place.

I appreciate it must be gutting for Gee to lose but he seemed a bit insincere when he congratulated Stevie at the end. There’s an arrogance about Gee that’s not nice.

I agree with the arrogance thing but I thought his immediate handshake and ‘fair play man’ comment was sincere enough. He was obviously gutted as anyone would be so how can he be faulted for his kind words to Smith?

Besides they are good mates so I can’t imagine there is any malice or ill feeling.

I was bought their first album last year. I listened to it a couple of times and although I didn’t hate it I do find their whole ‘thing’ a bit too contrived. Not my cup of tea but then I like real folk music hence my mum buying me the album thinking ‘oooh he’ll love this authentic folk pop combo, they have scruffy beards and waist coats and everything.’

For something that is broadcast on the Internet only it has been fantastically produced. Great coverage all season. Fantastic commentary as always. Good interviews, good mini films/promos and generally just a top notch professional looking series.

Hats off to Redbull again. I can’t help but be a fan.

A fair few riders were up at the top but then lost time on final third. Gee wasn’t really the exception there. The final third was a bit more technical and rocky so I guess Gee like others wanted to stay on the bike so possibly shaved more speed off than he wanted to.

Blimey. Noted. I often give our dog uncooked bits and pieces when I’m cooking at home, won’t be doing that again. I’d just assumed, given the rubbish a dog would normally consume left to its own devices that there was little (within reason) that a dogs stomach couldn’t cope with.

Bryceland and Blenki need to wash their mouths out with soap though.

Just ridden down a mountain flat out, got themselves on the box, endorphins flowing, arms, legs and chests are burning. I can forgive them an expletive or two.

As I said, the momentum was with him at the right time. Deserved winner IMO but Gee should still be chuffed that he has put himself back in the position as the rider to beat.

May as well, every other bugger has got one.

Also, momentum is with Smith but on the other hand Gee has been in similar positions to this before.

Personally I’ll be very happy if either smith or Gee take the title. I think they are both great riders, great personalities and only do the sport a favour.

Smiths final run will be a nail biter. The last run at the last round will almost certainly decide the championship. Brilliant.

His statement that the LS band is as tainted as the Swastika is open to such an interpretation and therefore has potential to cause offence.

So it is the potential you have an issue with and wish to challenge? Seems largely futile.

Ah well the fact you mention the lack of ‘battle scenes’ has alone made the film more enticing. My initial reluctance comes from it being a Spielberg film, not that I dislike his movies generally, but I do find some of his attempts at dealing with history a bit too emotionally manipulative.

I don’t know the man, though wish I did, but I put it down to the fact that his personality – troubled and of course bi-polar doesn’t naturally put him in the ‘team player’ camp.

From what I do know about him (his book, interviews nod endeavours) he is without question a man who has always and will always achieve far greater things on his own under his own terms. He is indeed a genius in my opinion and unashamedly not for this world.

Almost exclusively downhill racing and related practice which is usually uplift days.

I do own a trail bike which I occasionally use for trail centres and some technical singletrack. Also dabble in a bit of BMX.

My brother in law earns 130k a year. His new girlfriend earns around the same (she does the same job for a different office overseas). The way he whines and moans you’d think he was scraping by on Jobseeker’s Allowance.

I am jealous and I do hate him.

In my mind, an abusive misogynist who pretended to be other people, is not at all ‘cool’. I can see why the characters he played might appeal to the insecure and inadequate though.

I think you have problems with defining cool because you are so painfully dull frankly.

    *Shock news flash.*
Any bike you ride will make you look like a bit of a freak to most people so i wouldn’t worry about it.

What world do you live in?

    fervouredimage

I’d try one but honestly, I’d feel embarrassed about riding one regularly. It’s the sort of bike I’d ride with a large group of mates egging me on just so that any passers by are aware that I’m only riding one for a laugh and it’s not in any way a serious choice.

The momentum is definitely with Smith now. With just 17 points between them they may as well be even-stevens. In fact smith could steal away that 17 point advantage in qualifying alone.

Should be an absolute corker next weekend. Come on Gee!!

Really?! I’m shocked. I thought they would have included most, if not all of the DH runs. Sounds pretty rubbish.
