Yep, kids are great as training partners, whether its the kind of ride you’ve just done or even something as simple as laps of the cul-de-sac with unannounced emergency braking/trackstanding while said child anchores up in front of you for no reason :?

    All good training… :D

Jedi, You are not alone, I have a friend in Canada who used to DH race for Norco factory team that couldnt walk 10 feet without tripping over his feet! Out on the trail, I couldnt see his tail for dust! :| :?:

Don’t, you will become it’s slave.

    This^^

Avoided a computer for years! Eventually succumbed to one on the road bike but no way on the mtb, that remains the “fun machine” No techno=more fun

BB7 kits come with rotors anyway so just spec the rotor sixe, swap and you’re good to go with whichever size suits.

Yep, you are right Elaine, I had 13 yr olds on BMX’s floating over my head pointing at the “old bloke not gettin’ no air” below them  I like to think I was commanding respect rather than being ridiculed haha!
…Surely ovaltine rather that hot chocolate is more fitting for the cause!?

Thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated!

Hats off to Edric for the 3 Peaks CX!

Dangerousbeans, you are absolutely correct, pump tracks and DH courses aren’t the norm for me so I have to factor that in.

Chickenman, Please STOP trying to encourage me to spend money!!

belugabob, Road bikes hurt too!…Iknow mine does!

As above, find a hill, point your bike down and perform several controlled but hard stops. Climb back up and repeat. Then go for a good long ride and report back if no joy.

People who say an N gear jump stop keeps their chain on are riding canal towpaths only

    Utter rubbish

@mboy -Interested in your thoughts and experiences…Are you trolling or are you mechanicaly inept and unable to perfect chain length/line/tension?

    fenred

I just use an n-gear jump stop and a SS specific ring…Never dropped the chain yet.

Been running AC terrain 26er for 2 years, been solid and reliable and stayed true to this day. Agree with loud logo’s being in your face but they are a nice change from the norm.

Have a look at On-one’s site.

You can get get a rigid inbred or for just a smidge more you can get a 456. They do the C2W thing IIRC.

They don’t hear the noises, or if they do, dismiss them as “bike noises”, they don’t think they know enough, or want to know enough about what’s causing them to start working out out how to fix them. And probably “bike maintenance” seems like a big thing they don’t know how to do. “Sure, I could oil the chain, but the gears aren’t as good as they were, and the back break doesn’t work anymore either and I can’t sort that on my own, so I should probably take it into a shop and get it all done, but that’ll probably cost more than the bike’s worth, and it still gets me around, and it’s probably less likely to get nicked like this anyway…” -> slide into acceptance of a rickety shit bike they don’t have to care about, and it’s soon past the point of economic repair, and no more having to worry about whether to do something or not.

I think this pretty much sums up the badly maintained BSO owners attitude. I’ve just gone to speak to one of the offenders and offered to give their bike a “once over” and was told “Oh thanks, but does it really need it? It seems ok to me but you can have a look if you like.”

    Glad I offered.

ned, ZAMM ordered thanks for heads up.

Yep thats the feeling, apparently known as “hot-spots”…

Could be the shoes as mine aer 7 or 8 years old but I wanted to experiment with flats and decided to stick with them for a bit. No noticable loss in performance so I’ll be sticking with them for a while and remain hot-spot free :D

I had this with Tahoe’s except I had “hot-spots” in one foot whilst on the MTB.

On my road bike I have Look Keo’s which have a much larger cleat and platform and I dont have any probs at all.

Switched to flats on the mtb and no probs since.

Ahh, that explains it. I think the key ingredient you describe is ‘scandium’ northwind…Alas they are no more

I think if I were lucky enough to stumble across one it’d be a keeper!

Sounds as though you are “re-bounding” quite a lot from your hypo’s and if you need assistance from your partner to deal with nightime hypos, ie her testing you and administering fast acting carbs I’d be talking to my DSN personally.

Basal rates are key in pump therapy. I am very insulin sensitive so very slight tweaks on the basal rate on my pump make huge differences. Riding my mtb I usually drop mine to 25-30%. Similar distance on the road bike, I zero the basal rate completely mainly because I can go from 15mmols to 3 mmols in minutes.

That said, early morning rides ie pre-breakfast and I leave the basal rate to run at programmed levels with little to no change in BS levels. trial and error as always…Good luck man…

    Another vote for the inbred.

northwind, agreed heavy frame but certainly not “dead” feeling. That said I’ve not ridden a scandal.
