As elfin says, great for “getting going” again or unclipping for “hairy” bits of the trail that you might lose you bottle on and want to unclip briefly…(or is that just me? )

I found them VERY uncomfortable to use whilst wearing ‘normal’ trainers.

    Indeed.

An understanding of how different foods work together is key, ie carbs, fats, proteins etc.

If I’m riding in the morning, ie yesterday I like to take onboard eggs on toast, maybe some grilled bacon and maybe a sprinkling of cheese to add a little fat to ‘slow’ down the release process…Keeps everthing nice and steady, plus a cooked brekky is never a bad thing :D

Still managed to hypo at 2am tho, argghh

T1 for 20 years, the guys above offer good advice but remember everyone’s body is different, I’m very insulin sensitive and BS crashes quickly for me. I like to start mtb rides at about 12mmols, road about 12-14 I test after an hour and pretty much guarantee I’ll be around 6-7, couple jb’s will see me thru for another half hour. I’ve been on the pump for the past 2 yrs which helps avoid mid ride hypos.

Forget iPad, I was looking at tablets a few weeks ago and went for an acer iconia running android, honeycomb 3.2…Awesome bit of kit! As soon as my 2 yr iphone tie in ends I’m going android on that too. Take a look at JL website, you’ll be suprised how much cheaper and better spec’d :D

flange and fisha could you run 35mm tyres with the mini v’s with enough cable clearance or was it a fag paper between wire and rubber job?

    Thanks for the responses fella’s.

So it seems cantis are the choice of the masses, I’m just concerned about this “wooden” feeling I keep reading about.

I’m swapping the hangy bits over from my road bike so cant go for discs as they’re standard road hubs, if I get on with the CX thing they’ll be on the shopping list eventually so just need something relatively cheap but as effective as poss to tide me over.

MikeWW- Very nice but a bit pricey atm

Coleman – Nice rubber! Fugly brakes :D

    Yoda – linky?

I’ve got one of those, had it for a few months and dislike.

Thought about selling but they make **** all so decided to take all the hangy bits off it and stick them on a CX frame…Much more fun!

All VERY wrong on every level, but begs the question…If you spotted the “bike of your dreams” for a tenner at BL/random market…Would you be a buyer or would morals/guilt get the better of you?

It may look terrible but if it stops one speck of dog shite from hitting me in the face I’ll keep living with mine.

And my 456 was absolutely awesome with 150mm Z1’s on it,

Yes, but the poster has a 456 Summer Season which was designed to run with 100mm forks… My buddy has one and currently its set up with carbon forks (and a big fat tyre).

As for sag, I run +25% on my HT too – 456Ti and 140mm Thors

Whhhoaa there…Is that correct, ss designed to run with 100mm forks?

I was considering one a couple of years ago and the guys at on one told me it would ride dreadfully and advised an inbred, which I love but would prefer a size up and slacker angles??

Good shout on setting sag in attack position, thats where you’re going to be when you need aaaaallll that travel.

I’m still running 100mm on my HT and very rarely bottom out or feel the need for more travel.

Perhaps I need to work on my ‘radness’

Maybe some of us don’t care about ‘getting better’? Maybe ‘getting better’ is not directly proportional to enjoying yourself? I’d rather my riding style/ability just reflected the hours in the saddle I’d done and the terrain I’d ridden, rather than laboriously hitting the same section over and over just so I can measure up to GW

Can’t be arsed breaking the flow of a ride anyway, which is why I can never ‘session’ a trail, just can’t help but keep pedalling and keep going.

Each to their own I guess. Hours in the saddle is great and of course nobody likes breaking flow. Practise for me personally is a seperate event to a ‘proper’ ride and the better my technique gets the more I enjoy my ‘proper’ rides.

I honestly struggle to see how and why people don’t practice. Bikes, musical instrument, driving, sport, cooking..anything really. The more you practise the better you get?! If time limits, ten mins Evey now and then is better than nufink.

Yep, I practice a fair bit, even play riding with the kids in the close out front gives an opportunity to hone track stands and the like…went to hog hill on Sunday by myself just to practice technique on the pump and descent tracks….all good stuff that you don’t always remember to train out on the trail.

tell him what you believe, then tell him what some others believe (ie heaven)
If he’s smart he’ll ask you why you don’t think the same & you can explain further – or you can ask him what he thinks
