    OP – Shocking! 8O

Can I ask why you chose a steel HS in the first place?

Oh the sardonic wit tonight is just soooo epic!

OP, most 29er riders will opt for low rise or flat bars, wide-ish with a shorter than your average 26er stem set up dependent on frame Geo/your Geo etc…my pref niner flatop 711mm and 80mm stem.

Them Spank Spikes look very nice.. although hell would have to freeze over before I’d pay £90 for a pair of pedals.

I agree, thats a lot of moolah for a set of pedals, but we all spend silly money on group sets, frames, brakes, forks etc…Why skimp out on prob the main contact point on your bike?

Would be interested to hear from people who switched from Inbred26 to Inbred29 with the same set-up.

My turn…done exactly this within the last 2 months and still ‘tinkering’ with set up, but here’s my 2p FWIW…

Absolutely loved my 26er inbred, only reason for change was 29er curious and always felt the 26er size/geo wasnt quite right, ie I was forever experimenting with stems, layback posts, fore/aft saddle lay blah blah.

That was an 18″, I elected to buy a 19.5″ 29er and it feels spot on size and geometry wise. 29er climbs better, descends better and fits better (just over 6′ and 34″ inside leg btw).

Overall the 29er offers way more comfort, largely due to better fit. I find I have to ‘muscle’ it more through the trail but in other ways it flows much better and undoubtedly rolls over stuff the 26er would have stalled on and thrown me otb. It’s really difficult to articulate how a 29er feels as a direct comparison to the same breed 26er, to me it just feels ‘right’ looks, feel, ride, grin factor…And surely thats all anyone ever needs

Only negative I can say is the 29er doesnt seem to have the same ‘spring’ that my 26er had, which tbh I miss, but as I say its early days and the frame might liven up in time.

Overall….Not in a hurry to return to 26″ wheels on a HT.

Nice one spando, never owned a P7 but can relate to the “I’ve just had a great ride, my bike felt awesome and screw the weight weenies!” feeling.

….Says the man desperately trying to shed weight from his steel 29er

I just built an on-one Inbred up and it’s superb

Just done this myself with a set of reba’s up front. Rides suberb, V pleased with it. It did cost way over my original budget, I think the only remaining components off my 26er doner bike are chainset and saddle….well worth it tho

Funny you should ask…I was SAD enough to measure rotor thickness last night with some digital calipers:

    Avid – 1.80
    Formula – 1.75
    Alligator – 1.74

didnt have a shimano rotor about but it’ll be in same ballpark.

Mrs Stratobiker would have that clean and ready to go in less than 10 minutes.

Mrs SB must come round and jetwash my patio if she can get that clean in 10 mins 8O

Can I ask, would BB7’s allow me to run more pad-rotor clearance…? I have 160/160 on my 29er by the way, plenty if braking power for my gnar level. Just sick of dragging pads.

    Oooh, this!!!

Run bb7’s for the past 2 years drag and problem free, just built a 29er and bought some formula k24 hydros….can I get them running rub free? NOPE…PITA! Whatever the ‘stated’ drawbacks of cable disc brakes are, they’re still worth it compared to fiddly less time riding, more time fettling hydros.
