Not sure about you calculation, however, I think that the majority on here will agree that depreciation on new MTBs are very high.

    Butcher, very good points.

For my riding and performance lately, a wheel barrow would be far better! Lol

I don’t agree with daveforlforth, sorry. Is it not just a case of ‘shiny things sells’?

Ok, apart from the financial cost, the fun factor and the environmental benefit…..what else?

An alternative way of thinking then.

Instead of paying hundreds, thousands for bikes and components, should we better off paying for better MTB trails?

Butcher, what do you mean by ‘top end race car’?

So, ton’s next bike is actually a spin cycle connected to the bar at his local with real ale and good food. That actually sounds very good, lol.

Matt, you’ve also raised another good point, lol.

All this wheel size crap. At one point it was just one wheel size, then, well we all know, lol.

I admit, I did own Saracen at one point! Very solid, but obviously heavy, lol. But had some good times on it. Paid about £400 brand new for it. A complete bike for less money than my current forks!

Howay ton, cycling is your expense, lol.

Going back to what Simon said though, ‘it an be as cexpensive or cheap as you like’.

However, then you get some MTBers that look down their nose at somebody riding a Saracen or whatever.

    I agree with Simon though.

Currently looking at some new rear shock absorbers on our car. I am ‘concerned’ about the cost of them, however, even some very good ones, fitted, are still cheaper than the front forks on my bike!

    Ok.

I always switch my mobile off before I go to sleep. If we are out for a meal with family and I see a mobile, then I say something sarcastic to them, (which translates to put that mobile away now, lol).

Is the actual issue here more about the OP having to share the new home with somebody other than the partner? Or about money?

I have three adult kids, two have left home and one still at home. The youngest who is still at home doesn’t pay anything to this household, and isn’t an issue to us, instead he saves his money for his future.

There is no way that I would force him out, he’ll leave when he is ready.

    Sorry, my mistake!

I didn’t realise that anybody was as stupid to walk up to fallen power lines/substation after such an event!

So how ‘exactly’ do you measure a tree inside a substation? Oh wait…..that’s a South v North joke isn’t it? 🙄 zzzzzzz

    Felt, it’s yours, isn’t it.

Damn! I have been found out! 😆

Nope, just sick of the ‘communist’ brigade on here that everybody must conform 👿

Used to live in Aus. And made numerous flights like that. First time, I wore the silly socks, after that, didn’t bother. Main thing is to keep ‘working’ your legs, walk around the plane, stretch, etc.

You’ve only given it 24hrs after a long flight to have a ride. 🙄

If it’s no better in the morning, go to your docs, just to be sure.

Yes, it does not conform to the STW communist standard mountain bike!

Or the views of the average STW’er

For those (felt) suggesting that the certifications may be fake on the Gloworm charger I pictured:

GrahamS, when did I suggest that your Gloworm charger sticker was fake? 😕

I was joking about the fact that it was also made in China, but the joke was obviously way over your head 😆

Bought mine on Amazon on the 30th sept. Arrived this week from China.

Nor do I need to post a picture of a very exciting looking charger
Is yours a little less exciting? Perhaps missing all those little symbols?

I only dream that my charger is as exciting as yours 🙄 but it still works

    😆

Suit yourself felt. I don’t have an agenda here. You seem to.
Take it you sell these things?

As others have said, buy the light then pick up a better quality CE certified charger and battery elsewhere. (Though chances are it will still be made in China).

I like the way you accuse me of selling lights 😆 but to make things very clear…… I don’t.

Nor do I need to post a picture of a very exciting looking charger

But …..to each their own I suppose, whatever turns you on 😆

Note the very slight product advertising there?
No advertising from me! I have absolutely no affiliation with Gloworm other than I own one of their lights.
I’m not saying “buy Gloworm” – I’m saying “buy reputable” and check for compliance symbols.

Gloworm chargers, way better than your average Chinese chargers!……….oh wait…..they’re made in China too!
Erm.. Pretty much everything electronic is made in China these days. That doesn’t mean they are all the same quality!

Yes compliance stickers can be faked obviously – but if you are buying goods from a real company who distributes internationally and has a reputation at stake then I think the chances are somewhat higher that the safety compliance is genuine compared to something you bought from an anonymous seller on eBay!

Well I’m totally convinced by your argument 🙄

See all those safety compliance symbols on the charger? CE-certified / GS Mark / TÜV / C-tick + double insulated?
Those are good things. If your charger doesn’t have them (or if they look like they’ve been drawn on in marker pen) then that is a bad thing. Don’t use it and invest in a proper charger – it’ll be cheaper than the excess on your home insurance!

I believe the fuse on the power bar would only blow if the plugs were drawing more that the amperage of the fuse rating. eg if it was a 13Amp fuse it would only trip at 3120 watts no?

Prefer my melting ice cap theory, 😆

Along with exploding battery chargers, these lights are bright enough to blind you aswell. And I’ve heard they can give you skin cancer if shone on an exposed part of your body for a long period.

What’s even worse is they run on electricity, some of which is nuclear electricity, which will cause mutations.

I actually heard that they are the sole cause of melting ice caps, it’s true, honest, 😆

Probably just the beginning if the above is anything to go by.

    Take care out there.

Far worse! These things have caused inter-planetary wars! It’s true! Honest! 😆

Received mine yesterday, with a UK plug.

    Works fine.

Very happy with the performance v cost.

    End of story.
