Interesting debate about econom8c development, BUT…. this mast will only fill in a tiny corner of coverage for Vodafone / O2. Most of which is already served by other providers. The area covered will be empty landscape, so not local residents. So a vanishingly tiny number of people will benefit – if they feel the need to connect to the outside world whilst they are in the area. There’s no justification for emergency use either, as phones will connect to any network for emergency calls.

So, lots of money, damage and visual impact for virtually no gain.

If you look at the comments on the planning application, most of the objections are from locals. I’m relatively local myself, and have a few friends in the area.

I have one of the Spintec mirrors on a road bike, and find it really useful riding on single track roads. Makes it easy to keep an eye on traffic approaching from behind, and time arrival at a passing place to allow them to overtake, without me having to stop. Before I had the mirror, I seemed to spend half my time looking over my shoulder.

I’m thinking of doing a Fisherfield traverse on Sunday, if you fancy it?

Heading south from the Cairnwell. Quite rapid on a tandem with panniers.

It’s actually been quite dry in Wester Ross. Very cold and windy this week though.

We’ve done the drive from Northern France to Ainsa a couple of times, in a camper van. Both times we have got beyond Pau on the first days drive, then meandered over to Ainsa via a half day riding at Fabian, north of the Beilsa tunnel.

I’ve had a Strael 2 for approaching 5 years, and over 10k miles. Mechanical Ultegra, hand-built Hope / DT Swiss wheels (Orange Fox Bikes, Muir of Ord – good enough for Jenny Graham = good enough for me). No idea of the weight, but certainly doesn’t feel heavy. Supremely comfortable, stable and forgiving enough to look after you when you’ve done too many big miles days in a row…. Also, the size range really does help to get a good fit.

My (non-smart) electricity meter has had a blank display since last April. 8 months of chasing, 3 missed appointments, and it should get sorted this Thursday……. So, no switching suppliers,  no chance to save money by cutting use. To make it worse, there’s a big credit balance on the account, which they have been refusing to refund because I can’t give them a meter reading. eon, i’m switching supplier the moment you sort out your meter.

I’ve got that. NW Highlands, tried it surg different items,  and other addresses close by. They are however delivering to a friend just south of Aviemore.

Sumburgh to Inverness flight has given up trying to land at Inverness, and is heading south. Glasgow to Tiree flight has become a Glasgo to Glasgow flight.

@bajsyckel I ran round those track a while back, partly to check them out for a potential ride. Conclusion – I’m never taking a bike round there! The coastal route is a great walk or run though, if you can arrange the logistics.

@ bajsyckel Aultbea? I’m just a few miles north of there, near Mellon Udrigle. Its been fairly wet for a while,  but with a fair few good days.

There’s always a ride along the track to Slaggan. Superb beach, you would be unlucky to find anyone else on it. Also, up to Loch na Sealga from Gruinard Bay. Enjoy the area, I may see you somewhere – possibly behind the wheel of a Royal Mail van.

Looks like a 36 Grip 2 to me. The 34 Kashimas on the Rise were  Fit 4.

I used to live in Shap, and worked in Kendal. A6 in that direction is a nice ride. Not too much traffic, scenic, more descending than climbing. As mention earlier, be a little wary if the wind is strong over the top. It soon gets more sheltered on the Kendal side though.

I was on the sleeper on Wednesay night. Bike storage is vertical hanging racks. I would say that the 2.5 inch max tyre width is about right – although with use of a small strap or length of cord to secure the wheel you could make it work for something a little we wider. If the racks are full, you will need to turn your bars.

My wife took the Hertigruten back to Tromso, and flew back to the UK from there with Wideroe – they don’t require you to box your bike.

Senja is breathtaking. Norwegian tunnel map is your friend for planning cycling routes https://www.cycletourer.co.uk/maps/tunnelmap.shtml. Check out Mattew Norway on YouTube for inspiration.

@dovebiker managed to get all season tyres fitted to my van, after a 5 year battle.

I have a trailer for the fat bike, but doing the full round (70 miles) could be a struggle.

Postie round in Wester Ross just going to be tricky today. 2-3 inches came down overnight, snow showers forecast for the whole day. Perhaps I should swap the van fir a fat bike?

Sounds suspiciously like the Royal Mail are wanting to monitor your every move with a digital device… I guess that the CEO is blissfully unaware of this, judging by his answers to questions from a Parliamentary Select Committee. I would be disabling the app. Phone battery was flat, left phone at home, turned it off so that you were not interrupted during work time, reception is rubbish in the Highlands and Islands. Plenty of reasons that they don’t see any data from you!

Local here. Gravel bike is a good call for an early, solo ride. Road to Poolewe, then good private road / track to Kernsary and Bad Bog. Mountain bike – drive up to the inappropriately named red stables (it’s now green….), just beyond Loch Bad an Sgalaig. The track heading south from here into the hills is pretty rough and rocky in places these days!

Not really any options with a 9 year old in tow from the door. Up towards Kernsary from Poolewe would work though, possibly even as far as Bad Bog, but there is a fairly steep hill. Heights of Kinlochewe from Kinlochewe could also be good.

For a full day, Corrie Hallie to Poolewe through Fisherfield (the “Trans Fisherfield”) takes some beating, but it involves some vehicle logistics. When are you up here? I’m always up for that ride.

If you are riding along the Gruinard beaches, we could give you a bed for the night. Make sure you pick a properly low tide though!

Another Fortitude Race owner here. If I hadn’t made that impulse purchase, I’d still be really annoyed with myself.
