Anyone with any knowledge of cycling has known this for the past 5 years…

    How do you write oooooOOOOOOoooooo?

ok, ok, just trying to get up to speed here….

Outside the team, does anyone really know!?!

No but shouldn’t stop us interpreting, speculating and gossiping should it?

Anyway has froome inadvertintly or otherwise exposed a potential wiggins weakness, ie he doesn’t have quick accelerations in him?

white stuff on a bike is the first broken rule

Is it? The rules don’t preclude white, but they do have this to say on the topic:

    Rule #8
// Saddles, bars, and tires shall be carefully matched.3

    Valid options are:

Match the saddle to the bars and the tires to black; or
Match the bars to the color of the frame at the top of the head tube and the saddle to the color of the frame at the top of the seat tube and the tires to the color where they come closest to the frame; or
Match the saddle and the bars to the frame decals; or
    Black, black, black

Thankfully, I would appear to be compliant with option 3

    compliant with what?

The rules. Haven’t you read the thread?

Is it really just money? Is it just they have bought the best? Or do they have a philosophy/approach that is new/different.

Is it like spain/barcelona – a deep far reaching philosphy of playing football that can be widely and sustainably implemented?

Or is it manchester city – ie bought success? (Please go to another thread if you object to this analogy it’s just to make a point)

GW, I would have thought these wouldn’t be compliant. But I’m just learning.

if your that bothered get a fork with a longer steerer tube.

    Rule #45// Slam your stem.

A maximum stack height of 2cm is allowed below the stem ….

nice bike, appears compliant, but note the following advisory:

    Rule #26//Make your bike photogenic.

Valve stems should be at 6 o’clock

I’v e some crests/proII with tubless nobby 2.25 nics on my soul. Find them very strong and stiff, and light. They might be a touch on the narrow side for bigger volume tyres, 2.35 nobby nics were too big I think. 2.1’s would be ideal I think, but cyrrently running 2.25’s which are fine. Propbably also dpeneds on the support of the tyre wall and whether tubless. I’ve wondered what flow’s would be like. I think unless your going after a light build and trying to shave grams, and want to run big tyres, you’ll be fine with the flows.

Thanks for the rules – fascinating.

    Current failure points:

    No frame-mounted pumps.
Spare tubes, multi-tools and repair kits should be stored in jersey pockets
    Shave your guns
Mountain bike shoes and pedals have their place (On a mountain bike.)
    No visors on the road.
    Never ride without your eyewear
    Slam your stem
    Slide your saddle back.
    Espresso or macchiato only.
Ditch the washer-nut and valve-stem cap.
The Ride Starts on Time. No exceptions.
Never Get Out of the Big Ring
No Food On Training Rides Under Four Hours

….And does this explain why no serious looking roadie has ever returned my greetings out on the road?

I’ve got spd’s on my road bike too, and ride in my mtb shoes. Does this mean I was un-cool all along? What other roadie fashion crimes am I inadvertently commiting?

    feenster

I know I should stop caring how the stem looks, and I’ve no intention to change back.

IMO riders in all genres have rules, spoken or otherwise about what looks right and wrong for that niche of cycling. I don’t think roadies are better or worse than any other. Look how upset downhillers got with skin suits…

Anyway, tell me more about this slammed stem thing? For some one who is tuned in to that look, what does it say to them about the rider?

    Top tips:

    Relax.*

Sanitization – pay anal attention to sanitisation.

    But relax*

Use a thermomenter to find the temprature and variance thereof in your flat. A stable 20-24 degrees is good for an ale. You really need a fridge for lager. Off flavours kick in if the yeast doesn’t like the tepratures it has to ferment in, so if you k ow what you’ve got to deal with, you can pick a style/yeast to suit.

    But don’t worry relax.*

Regardless of what the instructions say on your chosen yeast, make a yeast starter. Google will tell you how.

    But hey, just relax.*

Roughly speaking, three basic levels in homebrewing – Kit, Extract & All Grain. Increasing in complexity, time commitment, skill, investment of equipment, space. Kit brews are dead easy. You really just need the sapce for a 5 gallon bin and 40 500ml bottles. These days very good results with kits and extract brewing, due to quality of ingredients and kits available. You’ll get a basic equipment for kit brewing for £30-£40 I think. For improved kit brewing, you could buy a kit, but ditch the dried yeast, and use a liquid yeast, and maybe boil with some extra hops, ask your shop for advise on what to go for. Also, if going for a kit, get the two can kind, not the one can plus sugar kind. All are technically possible in a wee flat. I did lots of extract brewing in a tiny edinburgh flat, with some very satisfactory results (my best brew wasn’t picked out in a blind tasting with some mates up against 5 commercial craft beers). Hoping to move to all grain soon now that I have house and garage. Anyway, this book will see you right from beginner all the way through once you get the bug.

Get a load of dafodil bulbs, and in the dead of night carefully plant them in the neighbours lawn to spell out “Bastid”, then wait till next spring for the ultimate insult to be delivered from the earth.

Hanging bike verically by front wheel by hook is best imo. If horizontal space is an issue, go for two battons at different heights, then alternate the hooks between the two.

However, if one of my child cyclists were to overtake a parked car I would expect them to look ahead and behind first to judge if it was safe to do so. With a road narrowing and a car behind I would have expected them not to pull out to overtake

I don’t agree with teaching this. I take your point about staying out of hospital and the lack of experience of the kids, but this approach just panders to the keep cyclist out of the way attitude and isn’t helpful to the cause or to the individual cyclist riding like that, as they won’t learn to ride assertively and defensively. Cyclist have a right to use the road, to claim a lane when necessary, and should be trained to do that. They shouldn’t be expected or trained to stay out of the way, only making progress when there is nothing coming from behind that would have to slow down and/or go around them – IMO.

    Did I mention “road-tax”?

    Nope.

    That’s all right then.

Paying your taxes maintains the roads

If you mean Road Tax as its is incorrectly know. Wrong.

Vehicle excise duty goes into general tax fund. There is no direct link between tax raised from vehicle excise duty and the money spent on roads.

Vehicle excise duty is a tax on your vehicle based on emmissions, not a tax on using the roads.

relative outsiders to this particular, tragic event

Yes to the event, but not the scenario. Anyone with any experience of cycling on the road can see exactly what’s happened here because we have all experienced the scenario.

I’m just pointing out that there may be more to this case than we know about.

Why wasn’t it included in the article then?

    feenster

Why oh why do we have to keep discussing helmets that provide negligible benefit, rather than talking about stuff that’s actually going to make the roads safer (for everyone)?

    This

Let’s imagine a slightly different scenario

Mr Malleson was driving north along Heaton Road when he pulled out to avoid some parked cars.

Motorist Joseph Strong was driving behind him and saw him pull out, prompting him to pull out to overtake him.

But a central reservation caused the road to narrow, and Mr Strong’s Skoda car clipped the kerb of the reservation as he tried to pass. His car turned slightly towards Mr Malleson, an experienced driver, and lightly clipped his car.

The “scuff” prompted Mr Malleson, who’s car was not fitted with airbags, to swerve and crash head on in to a stationary vehicle.

The grandfather-of-three suffered serious head injuries and was taken to Newcastle’s Royal Victoria Infirmary, where he died two days later on December 2.

Wonder what the verdict would have been then?
