Try the Edinburgh Bicycle co-op's own brand Revolution range.

Online shopping and branches in newcastle, leeds manchester, aberdeen and edinburgh.

I live in Edinburgh and see the hundreds of them going about, so they must be decent.

    Try:

    Revolution Cadence Women's

    Revolution Trailfinder women's

Yes. MT500 shorts. Rear pocket stitching came away, so pockets now useless. Owned the shorts for about 18months, but used infrequently.

Zyme shorts, stitching on zip fly came away after 4 weeks of commuting 3miles per day.

Got the Zyme shorts changes at the shop, wrote to Endura about the MT500's and not interested.

I have some Endura gear that I bought 10 years ago that is indestructable, and still got much life in it but the Endura I've bought recently has been rubbish. They used to be good, and had my brand loyalty, but they've lost it now. Shame.

    Feenster – where is that?

My memory of the specifics is pretty hazy as it was 2 years ago.

    Castels de Castel I think?

We used the "Trail Riders guide to spain" book, and borrowed some maps from some people in the Costa Blanca Mountain Walkers who we met.

Actually we were pretty dissapointed with the singletrack oportunites around there. Hardly any as far as we could see. But loads of steep double track, if you are into going high and far with great scenery but not too much technical challenge.

Well I can't really as the focus of the whole campaign is 'greener travel' so I can hardly ignore the environmental aspect.

Not necessarily. The point of the campaign is to get more people cycling. It's already been decided by other's that it's green. That's a given. It doesn't matter what people's reason's are for cycling, as long as they're doing it. As IanMunro says, people already know it's green. Those who care about that already try to cycle. So it's good to try to apppeal to the 'normal' 'non-tree hugging' 'non cycling nuts'. You need to give answers to "Ok, so it's green, but what's in it for me?"

Forget all the tree hugging stuff, everyone already knows that. Tell em it works better than prozac, means you can eat cake, and gives you a pert bottom.

and compare the women [and probably men too, but I can't judge] in Copenhagen with ours…..

That and the crap weather we have in the UK. No normal person is going to cycle to work in the pi$$ing rain and I don't blame them.

Sigh…And you are on a cycling website! You are supposed to be "the converted". Maybe there is no hope!

What about Copenhagen? Compare their weather with ours, and their cycle usage…..

So, yeah, actually Dezb you're maybe right it is laziness….

Let drivers know that more bikes = less cars, which is better for them!

Exactly! the more bikes on the road, the more pleasant life will be for EVERYONE! I just don't get it when drivers shout "Get off the road". Ok, I will, and I'll get back in my car, if that's what you want, and so will all the other cyclists, if that's what you want, and then the traffic jams that have turned you into an angry impatient fat slob will be even longer, and you'll get angrier and fatter, and you'll be going slower. Is that what you want? You haven't even thought about it have you?

    and breathe….

There are NO losers of more cyclists, apart from car makers and oil companies, and tax collectors I guess. Or is that too simplistic? Does the motor vehicle now underpin our economy and way of life so deeply that it can't be removed?

and one more +ve of cycling, once you've got the right clothes on, and get warmed up, it doesn't matter hwat the weather's doing, even in the winter.

Good luck, here's what I would like to hear:

Get fit, save money, help environment, reduce congestion, cut out waiting for delayed and overcrowded buses and trains, or being packed in like sardines when they arrive, no more sitting in traffic jams, easy parking, predictable journey times whatever the time of day, quicker over short journeys in towns and cities (e.g. up to 5 miles) or so than anything else.

However, employers, councils, planners and policy makers need to catch up with the demand for improved facilities and conditions for cyclist, eg showers and parking, and addressing the growing conflict on the roads. Our road systems are simply not designed with cycles in mind, and that needs to change for everybody's sake.

Just don't understand why anyone wouldn't cycle on an urban commute of up to 10 miles. Actually I do, cos it's scary on the road unless you are a seasoned road rat. That's the biggest blocker imo.

no, forget the brand. Wanted sks but it was cyclescheme job and my chosen shop doesn't stock sks. I'm going to try using a cork as a spacer when I'm bored with nothing better to do.

ps, I had the steerer left full length, because I expect it to do touring duties at some point.

Sort of. At that time I thought it was just a service for £80, and based on answers then I went for that, but have now found out I need stanchions, which makes it £220 vs £320, instead of £80 vs £320.

Well they’re for an orange p7, and I think I need a 130mm fork minimum, plus I reckon the revs just suit the bike better than the reba’s – more of a ‘Trail’ fork, whatever that means….

Another vote for Tissot. I got myself a Tissot PRC200 a few months ago. £220 for the chrono with leather strap. Think you can get them a bit cheaper now. All comes down to taste, but I love it. Understated, classy and timeless. I love it, and not lost a second since I set it, so as good quality as you need basically.

There’s a choice of face colour, braclet/strap colour, chrono/non chrono in the range.

Saw this at the Edinburgh mountain film festival. It was….emotional.

    Very ispiring, highly recommended.

    http://www.asiemut.com/content/view/22/69/

“Asiemut is the story of a french canadian couple, Mélanie & Olivier, that choose a journey… but most would call it a long adventure, approximately 8000 km long. Riding their bicyles & pedaling through Asia. They traveled from Mongolia to Kolkata, at the mouth of the Ganges in India, passing through Xinjiang, the Taklamakan desert, Tibet & Nepal… Asiemut is their first film.”

He has to know. Think how you would feel if somewhere down the line he gets HIV and you could have done something. You’re in a difficult position, but you now have a duty. It doesn’t matter who tells him, but he has to know asap, before tonight ideally.

Why does anyone get married at that excessive cost? Ridiculous. Think what else could be done with that money>

Each to their own and all that, but regardless, do you think that’s helpful to me just now?

cynic-al, thanks for the free legal advice. I had been told that they could persue me for the full amount by a colleague (who is not a lawyer), but wanted to see if anyone else would point this out.

I guess this settles it, it’s down to my negotiation skills and the good will of the caterer. Will let y’all know how it settles.

Thanks for advice and good wishes everyone.

On the plus side, I think this is my longest thread on stw. I once asked something about bikes and got 1 reply.

I’m pretty sure I paid close to £45 if we’re having a pissing match.

If we go for it in the future, that’s what it will cost next time.

Jeez, the bikes and bits I could have bought instead of these cancellation fees – it’s killing me….

never ridden one, but the roadrat looks fugly, so bad in fact it may even be a gate constructed from bots of the ugly tree. Its a hybrid for people that dont want to admit they want a hybrid.

Not quite sure how someone can be so scathing and dismissive of a bike they haven’t even ridden, based on looks.

It’s a bike that takes elements from a number of different styles of bike and puts them together in a pretty unique package. So yeah, it’s a hybrid, so what?

If you want a touring bike, get one, if you want a mountain bike, get one, if you want a road bike, get one. If you want one bike that does a decent but not perfect job of all of disciplines, you won’t go wrong with a roadrat.

…plus, it occurred to me that I could do a good samaritan/interfering busy body thing, and potentially get someone re-united with their bike…so was wondering if there are ‘channels’ for this sort of thing….

Just seems odd to me that a someone could get the details so totally wrong for a bike like that, plus it’s going for a song at the moment.

Did a return coast to coast with an overnight in Ullapool last summer. Went to the pub for dinner, and there was a band due on called Angus and Julia Stone[/url]. Decided to hang around to see them. Expected the usual folky traditional type band in a place like that, but got a couple hours of the sweetest, most laidback, beatiful and captivating live music I’ve ever heard. Brother and sister from Australia. The most amazing vocal harmonies. Think it was the surprise, and the intimate atmospehere, as have since seen them in Edinburgh, and not quite the as good. But that’s best surprise live music experience. Bought their records as well, and loved those.
