May i offer my humblest apologies for the lapse

Don’t take it too personally. I just find it detracts from what is being written.

Your welcome to not loose time thinking about it to much when you could of been doing something gooder.

Back in the day, every so often, our cycle courier controller would drop in a “Roger, roger, roger, rog” over the radio to the tune of The Birdy Song.

For the rest of the day, the end of every radio communication would reinforce the tune in my head. Worst kind of torture!

Don’t usually do this but far too many incorrect uses of “your” and then a “loose” in the last post.

Yeah, I want a Fanatec but the prices are a bit too much for my budget!

Surprised Logitech haven’t made one like the GT Force one I use for the PS3.

Still waiting for a decent wheel to come out for the XBox before taking the plunge.
Can’t understand why there isn’t one available.

Unless you can point me to one?

Having a sense of humour is a broad expression.

Is enjoying “Last of the Summer Wine”, “My Family”, “Top Gear” having a sense of humour? Possibly.

But it’s not one I share. I find them all painfully obvious, hackneyed and cringing.

Don’t think it necessarily needs it, but the cover the missus has for hers makes it feel more book-like.

    She loves it.

Can I come along to the next AGM? I think we need a new committee.

I studied as an electrician – wouldn’t let most of the others in my class anywhere near my electric

I trust my electrician – find a recommended one and it’s the best option imho.

It’s a small price (for me) to pay to know I’m not going to get electrocuted/burn the house down.

Had an electrician fit ours for £30. Peace of mind for not much money.

    The jokes are worn thin

They wore thin five years ago.
    Cos it was always:

    laboured tedious rubbish

Finally all the dullard fans woke up!

Bought a cheap airsoft gun (M41) for my 11 yr old thinking that they’d have just slightly more power than the crappy “gold plastic ball firing pistols” I had as a kid.

How wrong I was. I fired the first 0.12g ball in the bedroom and couldn’t see if it had actually fired. So….I decided to fire at my hand to see how much it might sting.

Now have nasty blood blister on little finger.

Much more powerful than I’d expected. He loves it of course!

Tim, like it. Got the usual “Language Timothy!” and Nice but dim stuff, but didn’t bother me. Get called Timmy by bestest friends.

So, Elfin, are you gonna tell us? I’ve heard plenty of people call you Fred. Is that it?

if all road users were safe and courteous then we would have no need for this debate and yes sometimes some cyclists are idiots too.

And to go waaaaay back to the OP, that’s what those cyclists riding two abreast are, they’re discourteous idiots.

Poor car driving made me ride defensively I did not start out this far out- sometimes I will hug the kerb if I deem it safe to pass but not on a dual carriageway as it is the car behind you need to worry about

What does this have to do with riding two abreast? Nothing.
    Stick to the topic.

    Actually, ***copies and pastes***

I have nothing more to add.

I’ve probably spent more time road riding in traffic than most on here and feel confident in my point of view.

How far do you take this philosophy?

I have nothing more to add.

Then the safest option to do is not ride on the road at all because that is the only way you’ll avoid upsetting drivers.

    Nope, that’s being absurd.

Upset drivers cause accidents. If you want to be the person in that accident then fine.

Personally I’ll take irritating somebody if it makes them see me and are forces them to pay attention to me.

Yes completely agree, but you can do that without riding two abreast.

Riding two abreast sends a clear signal “I’m exercising my right to do this and If you get annoyed, I’m still in the right so tough!”

That will wind drivers up and increase the risk of aggressive reactions.

    FeeFoo

    Of course it will.

Answer this one: would you put yourself in greater danger to avoid upsetting people?

No, but your answer is elliptical.

If you upset drivers you are putting yourself in the greatest danger.
Therefore, the safest option is NOT TO UPSET THEM IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Thanks for proving my point emphatically.

Trust me, upsetting drivers is the most stupid thing you can do on a bike.

Answer this one: Will cycling two abreast annoy drivers?
Anyone who believes that it won’t is, at best, naive.

You’re definitely in the “avoid upsetting drivers” camp then.

Generally, I’m in the “avoiding upsetting people” camp.

It’s got naff all to do with being “technically right”. IMO they are just two blokes trying to ride along that road in what they regard as the safest possible manner.

Come on, do you really believe they had the conversation that went something like : “We’re on a busy road, it’d be best if we ride two abreast to make sure no-one hits us” ?

    Ridiculous. They were being selfish.
Ride defensively, ride assertively, but above all ride considerately.

Antagonising motorists, and I think WE ALL KNOW that this will antagonise them, is always a bad move.

    FeeFoo

This is the important point. Most people in the against camp seem to be there in order to avoid upsetting drivers. All of the for camp are there because of road safety.

No, most of the “for” camp are there cos they know it’s someone’s right to cycle two abreast. They’ll defend that right even if it means being unnecessarily selfish.

Being considerate (and assertive) on the road is the safest and most socially positive way to travel.

@Graham S: This is FeeFoo’s twin brother so put down another one for the “Against” 8)

The beauty of this thread is that you can tell who doesn’t really ride a bike that often, or certainly doesn’t on road.

Ok, which ones don’t ride on the road that often? Name them one by one.

You must be like an uber-commuter or summink. All hail.

The point is, defensive/assertive riding is good.
Being a selfish in-the-right-no-matter-what-the-circumstances prick like the guy on the video is bad.

Yes anti cylist – wanting bikes to cower in the gutter and keep out of cars way instead of riding safely

Again, no mention of gutter by anyone but you.

It’s like trying to win an argument with yourself.

TJ “don’t ride in the gutter”
    TJ “i’m not”
TJ “don’t ride in the gutter”
